Wow there are some seriously talented people on here! I used to draw portraits in high school (for senior pictures and whatnot), but I rarely make time for drawing anymore. The last thing I did was a family portrait for my mom for Mother's Day.

Because I was in an airport and saw that picture on the cover of a magazine and felt the urge to draw it. It was too perfect a picture to pass up. That's usually how it happens with me, unless someone specifically requests a subject.

You can ask any questions you want. Drawing related answers will probably not be too interesting, usually I draw something if the photo I see "speaks to me", no deeper meaning.

Here are some more (the first two don't have very good scan quality, the last one is a photo of the actual drawing).

Kate those really are beautiful....you have an amazing talent!
Im actually looking for a tattoo artist to do a portrait of my daughter on my bicep with wings behind her....
The same picture that I posted in here last year sometime with a hibiscus in her hair...its simply beautiful....
I really wanted to have Kat Von D do it as her work is extraordinary when it comes to portraits...
I think I will atlest attempt to get on her waiting list...even though its like a two year wait

Thank you so much! Hm.... I can't help you much with the tattoo, but if you wanted just a normal drawing, I could probably do one for you, I'd just need a fairly large, clear photo. And hey, a two year wait is a long time, but the quality should be worth it, especially since it's something so personal and that you will have forever.

Kat Von D is good, but there are better and cheaper (less known) artists out there. I imagine there are several in Phoenix. I'd do a lot of research, check out a lot of portfolios, and make sure the artist is emotionally invested. The last part is really important, and often overlooked. Their emotional investment will translate into the tattoo more than ability. IMO
