    Kamelot vocalist quits

by TOM CRUISE » Fri Apr 22, 2011 10:17 am

Really not news for me, since I do not like 3/4 of nowaday power metal..... but I thought the power metal kids on broad would be concerned.

I kind of expected this to be honest. I was very disappointed the last time I saw Kamelot due to Roy Khan's vocals which sadly have been deteriorating over the years.

That being said, I don't know who could possibly replace him...

It sucks that he's gone, but honestly, it's about time it happened. Now they can move on and look for a (hopefully) suitable replacement.

Well its like when Max left Sepultura or Tarja left nightwish. Not the same band. Or Trouble without Eric.

Yeah, the current touring lineup with Fabio Lione is a nice novelty but nothing more considering that his voice is very different. It's just not the same.

now it's official what everybody expected to happen
he definitely made Kamelot special - though I've never been a fan of the band
it's going to be interesting to see where they are heading from now

This has been coming about for ages now, and I can't say that I have much respect for Khan after the stunt he pulled. Right around when the new Kamelot album came out, Kamelot started their own record label to promote and release the band's material, and to my understanding the members of the band quit their full-time jobs to persue the band and related business ventures. Not an easy thing to do when you've got a family to support, and Roy Khan leaving the band high and dry at a time like that is just rough. This isn't even news, this was happening two years ago. No statement to the fans, no nothing.

Fuck that, Kamelot should hook up with Michael Erikson full time (Fabio is fantastic, too but Rhapsody needs him). The creative force of the band is still intact, and I have nothing but utter respect for Thomas Youngblood and how he handled the situation. Long live Kamelot, with or without Khan.

I agree 100%. I didnt think hed sound that good with Kamelot but he did VERY well with only a week to prepare. My girl and I were actually standing behind Sean before the Eluveitie show and he did a good job keeping the Khan info under wraps. We found it funny that he wasnt even sure what band Fabio sang for lmao. Really cool guy though, he was telling us about this other Tampa band that literally sold everything they owned just to afford to play a festival overseas, but the band had a set RIGHT after Manowar so everyone left without seeing the Tampa band.

I'll love Karma and Epica forever, but the guy awkwardly couldn't hit a lot of stuff, and that's going to the first time I saw them in 2005 or 2006.

Karma is one of my favorite albums of all time!

I noticed that only now with Fabio Lione they are playing Dont You Cry from Karma which is strange. It' doesn't sound the same without Khan...

    This is very disappointing news.....

as Kamelot was the only power metal band I really loved!! Khan was awesome.... you can't replace him... just like you couldn't replace Max in Sepultura.... Luckily I got to see Kamelot once live.... and despite was people say above on this thread.... he actually performed perfectly. His voice sounded more powerful than on the album.. and I was blown away.

I don't care much for the power metal genre much at all ... but did love these guys... until recently (reading that they are 'Power-Metal').... I was calling them Progressive metal to myself.. like Dream Theater is considered....

Khan by far is better than any power metal vocalist ... in my opinion.

This SUX. oh well..... the metal shall continue..

Hmmm, well, I feel like they Kamelot and Roy have not parted as real good friends for some reason. Same as with Nightwish and Tarja, and Ben Moody with Evanescence...
But hey, who am I to tell, I dont know the legal stuff and all.

anybody can sing "my heart will go on" or "f*** like an animal" at a wedding - some of the musicians may know how this "registration" is called and how it works exactly...

Live performances aren't subject to such laws. Only recorded products that could be reproduced and sold/distributed.

You don't have to pay Led Zeppelin a dime to be in a tribute band that makes tons of cash on the casino circuit. Ya just can't call yourself Led Zeppelin or sell CD's of your renditions without permission/fees.

There may be more to it but that's essentially how it works afaik
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

^ I knew a guy with a Black Sabbath tribute band and I was told they we 'forced' to change the tuning of the songs so as not to make them identical to the originals. Seems pointless and might not be true but I did see them live and they were indeed playing different tunings.

My mates from Striker did a cover of "You'll Wish you were Never Born" by Grim Reaper on the vinyl edition of their EP, and they sent emails to Steve Grimmet and his manager to get permission/pay the fee(s), but they never heard back from either of them so they just went ahead and put it on the record. No one has mentioned anything about it to this day.
