It was quite awesome. Sounded more like a proper band than the couple of songs posted on Youtube before the album release. I didn't have that high hopes to be honest, but I'm really glad I went. Ok, there was a free concert in the Kaisaniemi park in the centre earlier where I got to see the amazing Jenni Vartiainen. All in all a great night.

Had to check on the previous page to see where I left off gig-posting-wise.

Last gig was last night: John Fogerty (of Credence Clearwater Revival fame) at Northerly Island, Chicago. I'd never seen him before and boy, was he great! Most every song was from the late 60s/early 70s era & husband & I kept remarking how all those songs fondly remind us of when we were young kids. Before he came out, there was a 20 minute or so documentary on the video screens highlighting his career, CCR, and that era of Woodstock, hippies & Vietnam - very well done. He is 70 and you'd never know it - he looks & sounds so great. Didn't realize he actually wrote the song "Proud Mary" & was the first to record it with CCR in 1969. I guess I always assumed Ike & Tina Turner wrote it - but no - it was just that their 1971 cover made it so famous. Anyway, great show overall.

Next gig (unless something comes up in the meantime): Deafheaven in a headlining spot at the Wicker Park Fest (my neighborhood) on July 26th. It's one of the many free summer neighborhood street fests in Chicago (one of the biggest), so can't beat free - haha (well, there is a "suggested donation" of $5). I believe Sgt. B has spoken of Deafheaven here & I know they've gotten a lot of buzz among the music press. Need to finally give them a serious listen before the gig!

Last Gig: Foo Fighters last Wednesday....not a big fan of theirs but they are one of the biggest names in rock music today. Years from now when people are saying "remember that time when Dave Grohl broke his leg and did a tour sitting in that big motorized throne!!!"....I can say yeah I was there. Gotta admit the trhone was pretty sweet looking and re-naming the tour to "Broken Leg Tour" was genius.

Next Gig: taking some time off to let the wallet rest. Next show is Eluveitie. Epica and The Agonist in September. Surprising our 7 year old daughter with her first metal show. Eluveitie is one of her favorite bands.

Been wanting to see kamelot all my life and the one time i got the chance to see them, i was trying so hard to sober up and failed miserably. Only remember snipets of the show but i do remember having a great time! Never drinking again in a festival

She certainly does! So happy that she loves metal as much as her mom and dad......I don't think I could handle it if she wanted to listen to pop music in the car all the time....

on Tuesday I saw Def Leppard - I didn't expect that I was going to like that show as much as I did
on Wednesday I saw Mayhem Fest with Slayer and King Diamond - that was a fun time, by now I can't even count how many times I've seen Slayer, King Diamond on the other hand was badass! Although I wish King Diamond could have played buring the cover of night.

Last gigs for me were Kotkan Meripäivät on Friday with Within Temptation, Amaranthe, Omnium Gatherum, and Keitelejazz with Mari Boine (Norwegian Sami artist) on Saturday. WT and Mari Boine were both amazing, and Mari Boine's gig ranks among the best gigs I've ever seen.
