I can't believe it, but I'm going to be at this! I'll be renting a small apartment near the festival grounds with a friend. Hope to meet up with some of you all there!

Aah, sorry, it was just an answer to Daenerys' question. I'm fairly sure everyone will be going to Tolmin already on Sunday, be it flying, driving or walking.
Oh, and there's only one apartment in my name. The house (on the haunted hill) is in Espen's name.

Thanks Ville! Yeah we will prob try to fly out of Tampa on the 20th to get to Tolmin sometime on the 21st. I haven't decided yet if we're gonna try to fly into Venice and bus into Tolmin or fly into Ljubljana and take the train. Decisions, decisions!

It's the other way round, a train from Venice or a bus from Ljubljana.

We went from Most na Soci, about a 5km cab ride from Tolmin, to Venice and it was more like Train, walk across border, quick bus ride, train to get to Venezia Mestre.

It was SO much easier to plan the trip to Zadar last year! The airport may have been smaller than the first floor of our local mall but at least they had an airport

Well I realized that I forgot Brian can only take off from the 19th - 29th, so we actually probably have to fly in before the festival if we want to spend any time in Ljubljana. I saw an ad for a bus from Venice by some company offering organized bus trips to Metaldays; https://www.facebook.com/IcedTearsBus
I wonder if they'll be doing return trips, then maybe we could fly out of Venice. Seems silly to head back east to Ljubljana when we need to fly west.

I did Metalcamp 2011, and it was great, mostly because my buddies in ALGEBRA played there, but this year's lineup is slightly too unattractive for me, with only Ihsahn and Bloodshot Dawn, having seen all the other bands that interess me. But if some cool bands are added, Metaldays is still an option.

For now, Brutal Assault, Burning Sea and Graspop are winning my choice of summer festivals, the latter two because of King Diamond.

There is also an airport in Trieste, which is a tad closer to Slovenia than Venice. For 2011 cruise we flew Trieste-Rome-Miami and back.

And here it really doesn't matter if you had back east even if you need to fly west since the trip from Tolmin in Ljubljana only takes about an hour with a car.

I'm planning to fly into Trieste, well that's my first choice anyway. Could you provide more details on how to get from Trieste to Tolmin, please?

Also, when I took a look at booking a rental car in Croatia, automatics were SUPER expensive, and I can't drive stick!

I can't drive a stick either, but mainly because I'm just terribly uncoordinated

And also my sense of direction and orientation is really bad, so I'd go in the wrong direction and get lost really easily. So it's just easier for me to get public transport so at least I know i'll get to where I want to go.

Roads in some parts of Europe are crazy, no lanes, cars all over the place. My Bro told me about one in France when he was there, he showed me photos, it's crazy!

earlier this week, for the first time ever, I had to book a rental car - and I was quite surprised by the selection of cars
