    2013 Tours & Festivals

    by Laura » Thu Nov 15, 2012 12:34 pm

Rather than always starting a thread for an individual tour, perhaps this can be a place for miscellaneous postings of new tours and so on.

So far, the (US) tours that I'm the most excited about are:
    Enslaved
    Doro
    Turisas
    KMFDM

Unfortunately, Doro has been booked at effing Mojoe's in Joliet :bitch: (an hour from Chicago), so I may pass on that, even though I'm crazy about Doro!!
Anyone know what's up with Dimmu Borgir? - seems to me they're overdue for a new album & another US tour!!

2013 is looking like an AMAZING year for tours in Australia.

    I'm going to:
    Jan - Nightwish, Sabaton, Alestorm
    Apr - Epica, Extreme

And there are a whole plethora of other tours that I'll miss out on due to either lack of interest or lack of funds:

Marduk, Hypocrisy, Deep Purple/Journey, Black Sabbath, Kiss/Motley Crue/Thin Lizzy
    Upcoming Gigs:

Dimmu are celebrating 20 year anniv. next year. They will release a DVD and are currently not working on a new album, so there might be some shows around the world...

I'm geeked for the Gojira & DT, Doro, Graveyard, Enslaved and Nile tours.

I'm also gettin' all frothed up over some tours that are not official.
There's the Devil's Blood & Royal Thunder tour that has a couple dates out there.
It also looks like a couple of pretty sweet tour packages are in the works for next year:
    1. ONSLAUGHT / Exhumer/ Bonded by Blood / Fueled by Fire
    2. GAMA BOMB / Artillery / Vektor / Blessed Curse

They're due to release an album sometime next year. A DVD of their performances with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra would be good, I've watched some videos on YouTube and they're epic! Not a big Dimmu fan, don't own any CDs or anything, but I'd buy that. Hopefully they play sometime during the middle of next year while I'm in Europe so I can see 'em.

So far, 70K (duh), Turisas and maybe Opeth. Not many 2013 concerts announced yet for México, but I'm really hoping Testament and Overkill come. Also, if Helloween and Gamma Ray come again, I'll surely be there.

Thanks for this info - gosh, hard to believe they've been around nearly 20 years! I would have loved to have gone to that special gig with the orchestra in Oslo - need to buy that dvd! Hopefully, a big world tour will happen next year - and I will be sure to be there!

Hmmm....thinking about the tours announced so far...Enslaved and Marduk are the two must sees for me. Love Turisas, KMFDM, & Doro as well (and they are all great live), but depending on what else is going on around those dates, I may skip them. We'll see.

Going forward, I'm still thinking I want to aim for metal bands (who I really like) that I *haven't* seen before, but that list has gotten *very* small now. There are a handful of metal bands that will always be "must sees" for me, but many of the others I can stand to skip now and again. Therefore, I may switch gears a bit in 2013 and try to see more bands/artists from other music genres I really like - alt/indie, world, blues, and classical. I've been listening to and enjoying a lot of music by bands like Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, and Kaiser Chiefs recently - would see any of them next time they come round. And then there are always all those (what I call) "retro" tours of bands that are over 30 years old and who we enjoyed in our youth. 2012 was huge for retro tours (there were too many to see all I wanted to see), but still managed to see REO Speedwagon, Styx, Ted Nugent, B52s, Squeeze, Yes, Procol Harum, Peter Gabriel and The Who (this Thursday!). Will be interesting to see who decides to tour in 2013. It's also a lot of fun to just hang out at some of Chicago's blues & jazz clubs - it has been a long time since we've done that. Looking forward to seeing what 2013 has in store music wise! :D

I am sufficiently intrigued by Meshuggah to see them live, so I think I'll go to this. Have only listened to about a half dozen or so songs so far which strike me as just ok (although Sane is a stand-out to me)....will def listen to more beforehand. Also, love the House of Blues - haven't been to a show there in quite a while; and I keep seeing the name Animals as Leaders, and have been meaning to check them out.

  Yeah, it's hard not to love it. That's not even their best song, it's the one they finish with though.

I REALLY hope he decides to do clinics on this tour again because I was supposed to have one last time with him but he had to cancel because of an interview or something, but I convinced his tour manager to give me first dibs next time they come through town. In stead Jake gave me a small lesson and I actually learned a really cool trick that I use a lot  :shred:

So awesome. I live in Cincinnati and the closest Meshuggah has come here since I started listening to them has been Chicago, which is about 5 hours away. They're FINALLY playing here. Can't wait.

Wow....tons of great tours and other music events the first part of 2013! And now that more tours & dates have been announced since my initial post a month & a half ago...this is how things are shaking out. :P

Have tickets already (or will have soon as they go on sale (as in the case of Paganfest America late March/April & Anneke's acoustic set on March 24) - all not misses.

    January 27, 2013 Sunday
    Stone Sour, Papa Roach
    Congress Theater
(ever since I went to Corey Taylor's incredible acoustic/spoken word gig in a small Chicago club end of 2011 - I've become quite an obsessive Taylor fan.   )

    February 3, 2013 Sunday
Enslaved, Pallbearer, Ancient Wisdom, Royal Thunder (stoked!!)
    Reggie's Rock Club

    February 27, 2013 Wednesday
Marduk, Moonspell, Inquisition (seen 'em all but super stoked to see all 3 in one night! :D :beerhorns: )
    Reggie's Rock Club

    March 23, 2013 Saturday
Novembers Doom, Anneke van Giersbergen (have heard so many great things about both artists, so I've recently been checking them out (awesome!) - plus, I believe Anneke's Chicago gigs are special appearances and not part of a regular tour, so a don't miss in my book.)
    Reggie's Rock Club

    March 24, 2013 Sunday
    Anneke van Giersbergen (acoustic set)
    Ultra Lounge

    Late March/April
Paganfest America: Tyr, Ensiferum, Heidevolk, Trollfest, Helsott ('nuff said with that line-up - will be amazing - especially Heidevolk who I've wanted to see for several years!)
    Date/location TBD
    :viking:

    May 3-4, 2013 Friday-Saturday
Ragnarrokr Metal Apocalypse (a couple of bigger names have dropped off, but think it will still be a lot of fun - so far, it looks like Rob K and Bentz! from out of state will be there for sure (and maybe Jeff from Canada), as well as some local 70K friends, so another mini-70K reunion is is order! :D )
    Reggie's Rock Club

There are tons more - but those above are the only definites at this point. Most likely will also go to Meshuggah/Animals as Leaders and the Anthrax/Exodus/MW/Holy Grail gig since except for MW & Exodus - I haven't seen the others and want to check them out live. KMFDM (a long time fave who I've seen a few times) is now out since they conflict with Anneke/November's Doom who I've never seen & am very excited about!! Other possibilities are Doro, In Flames, Uli Jon Roth (who was amazing on 70K 2011), Turisas, & Cradle of Filth - but will most likely skip as I've seen them all fairly recently.

I'm being a bit more choosy this next year with metal gigs because my plan for 2013 is to go to more classical gigs, plays, ballets, blues & jazz clubs, and such. Already have tickets lined up for several events along those lines so here's to variety! :D
Yes, 2013 is lookin' good!! :D

Wow! Great news today....both Opeth & Riverside are touring this spring!! I'm really thrilled about finally getting the chance to see the stellar Polish prog band Riverside....such a wonderful band (and one of my top fave prog bands) that I thought I might never see - plus they're playing a fun smallish club in my neighborhood. With so many Opeth fans around here - that tour probably warrants its own thread, but here is the info so far for Riverside if anyone is interested (Rhia - I know you're a big fan - I would hope they will be adding more US dates since there are only a few listed (?).
One of my very favorite love (related) songs ever...
