I saw Arch Enemy (with Angela) once back in 2007 or so with Machine Head at Hob in Chicago. My issue with Angela is this: although major props to her for being a formidable badass growling woman...it leaves me cold personally. *shrugs* Seeing how she looks (petite, attractive, slim blonde) & hearing her growling was a gigantically HUGE disconnect with me. Maybe it's just a sexist, old-school masculine/feminine ideal (on my part, mind-you, strictly personal preference)....but when I think of the female vocalists I love the most, they are of the beautiful, uber-"feminine" of the lot such as Tarja http://youtu.be/nx-JfSk36bE - was at this amazing gig), Anneke van Giersbergen http://youtu.be/hKLJolIZ6Pg , Dido http://youtu.be/1TO48Cnl66w , Sarah Maclachlan http://youtu.be/i1GmxMTwUgs and many others.

So, yeah...when Angela & AE left the stage and the hyper-male machismo agressiveness that is ROB FLYNN of Machine Head came on stage afterwards...I was like yeah.... this is where it's at.
Rob Flynn is one of my top fave frontmen - he's got the power. (ultimate was live at Wacken when I saw them in 2009)...but my fave MH video is this one.

I agree with you Laura 100%. Will be interested to hear Allisa. I prefer Johan over Angela as it stands.

I honestly wasn't very happy at all by the news, and to me it doesn't seem like Alissa belongs in a melodic death metal band at all.

But I have no choice but to hope that I am dead wrong and they bring it.

I've never cared for the band anyway, so replacing Angela isn't a big deal. And I don't usually like female growlers because, kinda like Laura wrote, they seem to lack the power that you're used to with harsh vocals (death metal style that is). But, after hearing the new song, War Eternal, I kinda like Alissa's vocals on it. She sounds more feminine in a way, so it's not that weak as girlie growlers usually are. Well, ok, it lacks in power, but somehow it sound better than most female growls.

I won't be buying their album or anything though, I didn't like it that much. Let's just say I didn't hate it as much as I hated them before.

I agree with your comment. I liked the music, just didn't care for her voice. The band took a step down in my opinion.

We can't even judge much from what she sounds in that new video.
Gotta wait for the live show where I think she'll show that she doesn't belong in AE.

Something about Angela's energy at live shows that made them what they are.
Like Bruce Dickinson in Maiden. He might not be the only one in the band, but it's a different Maiden when he's gone as we've seen before.

It's generally not my style to be overly negative....but good-god - that song/video is one of the worst things I've seen/heard in a very long time.
