One of their best songs and their best albums "Awake"

What a great song as almost everythin from Type O Negative.
Laura wrote:Awake is a great album, but I have to say my favorite (of the four DT albums I own and know well) is...
and my absolute favorite DT song is the track from the above called Scene Three: II. Fatal Tragedy (this is so perfect start to finish) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vq6NevcLOQ
favorite parts and lyrics....
Without love
Without truth
There can be no turning back
Without faith
Without hope
There can be no peace of mind
"Now it is time to see how you died. Remember that death is not the end but only a transition."
as well as the great instrumental part beginning around 3:50
Monmisreal wrote:God I used to love DT. I remember them being one of my favorite bands but one day I just got extremely bored with the dick measuring contests between Petrucci and Rudess. Metropolis Pt. 2 would be my favorite album if you cut out like 2-3 minutes from every song those two go back and forth with their noodling lmao
jodionline wrote:My favorit song from Dream Theater is "Pull me under" from the great "Images and Words".

Need to listen to that now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mipc-JxrhRk Wow - this is a great video - hadn't seen it before.

I appreciate them for the incredible influence they've had on the prog genre, I mean it's hard to call yourself a prog band without being Dream Theater worship, but yeah as you guys mentioned sometimes I wish they would just give it a rest. That, plus I really don't think James Labrie was a good fit for the band. His voice isn't powerful enough to keep up with the energy that the rest of the band is putting out. If they toned down the wankery and got a good singer like a Dio or a Dickinson or something, they would probably be the best band, no hyperbole.

That was probably ever the discussion if the voice is good or not. I like his voice very well.

yes, I agree they do a lotta noodling- but I like it in their case. I actually came quite late to Dream Theater considering they've been around for more than 20 years. It was only about 5-6 years ago that a prog friend of mine couldn't believe I had never listened to them, and proceeded to burn copies of Awake, A Change of Seasons, Images and Words, and Metropolis, Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory for me. Then, he and I, and several others went to see them at the great, historic Chicago Theatre on State Street in August of 2009 (my first and only time seeing them). That was a great gig - especially loved Zappa Plays Zappa and Big Elf who were also on that tour. I know they put out several recordings since the ones I have - I'll get around to those someday.

I remembered that I used that one in reference to Geddy Lee on the Black Metal thread of all things - thank goodness for the search box.![]()
I kinda wish I knew how many times I've listened to 2112 since it came out. I would not even venture to guess at this point.![]()
On the train to work this morning, listened to another favorite....

All I can say is that these guys have been listening to a lot of Devin Townsend, because I can hear it all over this album, between the technical death metal barrages
