    Do the iPod Shuffle!

    by Laura » Wed Dec 15, 2010 3:02 pm

This was an entertaining thread on another music forum I was on a while back. Put your iPod on shuffle on and post the first 10 tracks that come up. And no cheating! In other words....even if something really "embarassing" ;) :P comes up - post it! I have nearly 8,000 songs on my iPod and I always get a chuckle when I do this. Here's my first ten....(and I like the selection :beerwink:)
    1. Incubus: Rogues (from Light Grenades)
    2. Black Eyed Peas: Rock That Body (from The E.N.D.)
    3. Agalloch: A Desolation Song (from The Mantle)
    4. Bad Brains: Banned in DC (from Kurt's Choice - a compilation of songs that influenced Kurt Cobain - came free with an issue of NME)
    5. Theatre of Tragedy: Storm (from Storm)
    6. Labelle: Lady Marmalade (from 100% Funk volume 2) LOVE this song!!!
    7. Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band: Orange Claw Hammer (from Trout Mask Replica)
    8. Feeder: Just the Way I'm Feeling (from the compilation Q Presents: Rule Britannica!)
    9. Buddy Guy: Red House (from the compilation Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix) INCREDIBLE!
    10. Radiohead: Exit Music (from OK Computer)

Ive never used the shuffle feature before, dont even know how to do it.

Will figure it out and try it when I get home from work.

I took most of the embarrasing stuff of my Ipod, i have so much I ahd to clean up my computer a little was using too much disk space. I used to have an Abba cd but took it off since I hated have it come up first all the time on my list of artists (I should have renamed them Zabba, lol). I dont have a cd but I always kinda liked the carpenterrs too. We all have some musical skeletons in our closets.

Sweet, I'll jam your iPhone play list to your iPod. Nice you got some Tiamat on there. Wildhoney is a great album the The Ar melts the main melody into your head. Testament and Dimmu are two other good shuffles.

Houses of the Holy - one of the greatest albums of all time imo!

@ BehnWilson - re your comment on the Alice Cooper thread about double albums having a "double purpose" for us 70's stoners - I get your "drift" - ;) when I dug all my old lp's out of the basement and sold them about 5 years ago - I definitely discovered ancient weed remnants - I seem to recall my Yessongs (Yes) and All the World's a Stage (Rush) were my favorite albums for that purpose. :trashdrink:

@ Soundcurve- Wildhoney by Tiamat is fantastic, isn't it? Will I make you jealous if I tell you I saw it performed in its entirety after midnight at Wacken on the last night? Now, THAT was something very special. :D

Yes! That is one trip I still need to make (Wacken). I feel Tiamat is overlooked. It seems like "Amanethes" came and went but I loved it. So many good songs on it. I feel it captures a lot of their sound summarized in one album and love the song "Circles" esp. the first 3 lines of lyrics. Your ipod playlist still had some gems of band I love. Agalloch, man they are so good. If you haven't snagged their new album yet it is very good. Several listen to "Black Lake Niostang" and you should be hooked. The song is heavy in so many ways outside of just metal. Theater of Tragedy I miss the days of Liv Pre-Industrial although Strom was a good go for vocals by Nel. Velvet Darkness They Fear and Aegis I feel are their best though.

Back to the random listing . . .

9.Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears (off Ozman Cometh)
10.TypeO Negative - The Misinterpetation of Silence (off Least Worst of Type O)

#10 is kinda funny, its a minute of silence, Peter Steele and his wacky sense of humor. He is sorely missed, RIP Pete!
While typing this the 11th song that came on is Lola by The Kinks off The Kinks SIngles Collection.

My collection is well over half metal a lot of which is extreme metal. List came off a lot softer than I expected.

I won an iPod Classic 120GB in a competition. I hate the software. And it seems you can't port any better one on it (Rockbox etc.). I only use my iPod in my car - it is still better than taking a 100 CD's with you.
Don't and won't have iPhone either. I'm a bit of a Linux geek, so my choices are Ubuntu for the desktop computer and Nokia N900 as a phone.

    But here goes shuffle:
    1. Babylon's Bride - Decapitated (Nihility)
    2. Skullfuck Crescendo - Aborted (Engineering the Dead)
    3. The Sons of Heaven - Aesma Daeva (The New Athens Ethos)
    4. Two Sides - After Forever (Invisible Circles)
    5. Lost - Amartia (Marionette)
    6. Venom Preacher - Deathchain (Deathrash Assault)
    7. The Darkest Flame - Primordial (Imrama)
    8. Gong - Sigur Ros (Takk...)
    9. Little Victory - Amaran (A World Depraved)
    10. Microwaved Uterogestation - Carcass (Reek of Putrefaction)

And a girl in the corner let no one ignore her
'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one

Oh, yeah, it was like lightning, everybody was frightening
And the music was soothing, and they all started grooving

    Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
And the man at the back said
Everyone attack and it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said

    1. Wuthering Heights - Envy (The Shadow Cabinet) \m/
    2. Judas Priest - Blood Red Skies (Best Of)
    3. Gamma Ray - (We Won't) Stop The War (Sigh No More)
    4. PowerQuest - I don't Believe In Friends Forever (Master Of Illusion)
    5. Stratovarius - Venus In The Morning (Destiny)
    6. Rage - End Of All Days - (End Of All Days) \m/
    7. Angra - The Temple Of Hate (Temple Of Shadows)

    9. Heavenly - Million Ways (Coming From The Sky)
    10. R.E.M. - Half A World Away (Out Of Time)

if there's one band I'd like to recommend here, it's Wuthering Heights
The Shadow Cabinet is one of very very few records of the last decade that really blew me away
for those who know and like Astral Doors: it's the same singer
since it's hard to chose a song from this fantastic album...here's the song from the list above

I liked Shadow Cabinet, but I thought the two records that bookend it are better. Far from the Madding Crowd is what got me into them (and greatly influenced me), and I thought Salt was absolutely brilliant.

Carpe Noctum was probably my favorite track off of Shadow Cabinet.
    :headbanger:

Good to see someone else who is into them!

By the way, I have every single song from your list on my ipod as well haha.

even PowerQuest? while I liked the first two records, I somehow can't stand the newer stuff - it's like they lost it
let's see how things work out with the new singer...
    btw, saw'em live once

Shadow Cabinet>Salt>Far From The Madding Crowd

the first half of Salt is perfect, but it's the weaker second part that makes me prefer The Shadow Cabinet

Goddamn that stuff is cheesy as hell.

Basically, Salt can be summed up in one song for me that reallllly did it (though I did enjoy most of the album), and that was The Mad Sailor. Just awesome!

I was going to try this but I only keep about 10-12 albums on my MP3 player at any one time. I listen to an album a few times and then I remove it. It's a pet peeve of mine. I like things neet and tidy (same as my HDD).

I also won't listen to the same album over and over and over. I need to let it breathe and give it a rest so it stays fresh. Yes I'm a complicated man
