To me, that looks like a fan job. But I think if you mixed those colors with the new logo, you'd have something. The more I look at it, I think the new logo is very purposely generic, as it allows more people to be comfortable with it. The more complex and symbolic shit that I'd like to see would just confuse most people. So I think it's smart on the side of ownership to "simplify" the logo.

Interesting movement, in that they traded a 6th round pick for the rights to Gonchar, then signed him for 2 years at $10M. I like the move. The team is instantly better. And it's an interesting insight into the new GM, since Gonchar isn't exactly young.
Never take anything I say seriously.

Great final matchup. Looking forward to the series. Nice that it starts just a day before I have a week off work :headbanger:

Cool side note for me, currently ranked 5th overall (out of 20,000 or so I think) in the Sportsnet pool and none of the 4 ahead of me have my exact line up (closest has 8 of 10 the same) so if my uniquely chosen players have a good final, I could have a chance at prize! Nothing life or budget altering but decent schwag :D

1st Overall 50" LCD HDTV and 16 GB iPad Wi-Fi
    Approximate Retail Value: $1,200 Cdn.

    2nd Overall 32 GB iPad mini Wi-Fi
    Approximate Retail Value: $429 Cdn.

    3rd Overall Sony PS3
    Approximate Retail Value: $249 Cdn.
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

Good luck! I forgot to use the strategy of just picking a team from each conference and sticking with those players for the final rounds.

    Thanks...

First place guy is 6 points up on me so I'll need a fair bit of help there. The rest are only 1 or 2 up on me and I've got enough unique picks to get it done with some luck.

Basically, I need your B's to take Kane and Sharp out of the picture but let Hossa and Handzus pick up a greater share.

Then, I just need Horton, Marchand and Seidenberg to dry up while Lucic, Boychuk and Bergeron light it up and I'm sitting pretty for 1st overall.

    Go (my) Bruins GO!!!!

Can't speak for the rest of us but I definitely like it.

To me, seeing teams that we've lost to (somewhat) recently rise to the top again and again just supports the fact that we were beat by the best. With the exception of the Sharks this season, I think the team that has eliminated us has gone on to win the cup something like 4 out of the past 5 seasons or something like that.

Other teams should go out of their way to face us in the playoffs

Wow. If that's only Game 1, this is gonna be one hell of a series. Bummed the Bruins couldn't take that one but it's their own damn fault for blowing the two goal lead. Oh well, hopefully they'll take Game 2 and take the series to Boston all tied up. Hope Horton's okay. They need him.

I think its a dislocated shoulder and he is done. Obviously I want my hometown Hawks to win, but this sucks. Always liked Horton as a player, too bad he is snakebit as far as injuries go.

    Go Hawks :death:

i am hoping on pinched nerve since he never really seemed to make any overly solid contact and hopefully it means he will be back in the series by game 3 after everything relaxes

From what I've been reading, it's a shoulder subluxation issue he's been having since the end of the regular season (he missed the last 5 games). His shoulder has frequently been popping out of place (a subluxation as I understand it means the shoulder returns to its normal spot on its own making it different from a dislocation). Some times it causes minor discomfort and others a lot of pain, such as in game 1. He's been playing all through the playoffs with this issue and has been taking injections to deal with the pain and discomfort it causes. I believe he needs surgery in the offseason to fix it.

Team is being tight lipped on how severe this latest incident was so his status is still uncertain for game 2. If he can't go, Seguin was skating with Krejci and Lucic in practice and talk is that Jordan Caron will get called up to take a spot on the 3rd line with Peverley and Daugavins. I'd rather see Soderberg get a shot but Caron plays hard. That line's been useless aside from faceoffs anyway so not expecting much production out of whoever it is that takes the open roster spot should Horton be out.

Horton is practicing so it looks like he will play, albeit in some pain. According to TSN the shoulder had popped out. They put it back in but he was in too much pain to play the other night.

Hawks in practice have shuffled the lines so that Saad is on the first line with Toews and Hossa. They want a stronger defender on left wing as they will be matched against the Krejci line which was murdering us in game 1.

So Hawk lines in practice which will be likely be in the game are:
    Saad-Toews-Hoss
    Kane-Handzus-Sharp
    Bickell-Bolland-Shaw
    Bollig-Kruger-Frolik

Stalberg who hasnt scored all playoffs will likely again be scratched. Both Bickell & Stalberg are unrestricted free agents after the season. Bickell's agent is obviously in a better mood nowadays than Stalberg's

Good that he's practicing in his usual spot (though Seguin still joined the top line just in case). If he's good, I don't forsee any changes to the Boston lineup.

Thought Saad had a really good game on Wednesday. Hopefully he struggles tomorrow.

Horton will play Game 2 :headbanger:

We're going to miss (at least) the early part of the game since we already made plans to go up to the mountains. Hopefully we'll be back before the game is over. Thankfully I can listen to the Bruins radio broadcast on my phone.

    Go Bruins!

Woohoo! Missed the beginning of the game but seemed like Chicago was dominating early. Boston had a fantastic 3rd period and overtime. The line tweak to put Paille, Seguin and Kelly together worked beautifully. That line did a great job.

Very happy to be going to Boston with a 1-1 series tie. How even is this series right now? Great stuff.

Didn't watch the first game but this one was also one of the better games in the whole play-offs. Against any other goalie (except maybe Quick and Lundqvist) Blackhawks would wrap up the game in the first period. Rask was amazing and Bruins did very good job off the puck on Toews and Kane. Due to first period I feel the Bruins win is a bit undeserved altough they were slightly better than Chicago in the second half of the game. And if you ask any Chicago player, what went wrong, I'm pretty sure each and everyone would answer with "I forgot how to PP."

Both teams have a pretty shitty power play

Sounds like the Bruins got dominated in the 1st and Rask kept them in it but it was pretty clear to me in the 3rd and OT that the Bruins deserved the win. They took over the game in the later stages.

But there's a difference between their PPs. Boston's PP is organized, they set their position, rotate puck from player to player but most of the times fail to shoot. Chicago players have problems properly organizing PP and getting into the attack zone.

And you can't judge the game only by 3rd and OT. By your standards, Chicago should have easily won since they dominated the first 25-30 minutes. Looking at the match without fan glasses as a whole, both teams played well enough that they deserved the win. And unless Rask has a meltdown or two I doubt Blackhawks will win the cup, even if I cheer for them. I sincerely doubt they can brute force to victories in the future matches.

Too bad I can only watch the weekend games since I rather sleep at least 5-6 hours before going to work instead of one or two if I'd stayed up and watched the games :?

The games last at least 60 minutes so dominating for the first 25-30 isn't exactly controlling the whole game. ;) Didn't see the second period so can't speak to how the flow of the game looked then but I keep reading about the first. I'm just sick of hearing that the Bruins don't deserve victories. Heard a loooooot of that during the Pittsburgh series.

Looked to me like Chicago tired out as the game went on. I don't know if it was because Boston started hitting everything in a red sweater, if Chicago spent too much energy early on or a combination of both but conditioning is going to be very important in a prolonged series (this one seems like it's going 7 so far) with multiple games going to OT. Yes, both teams could be up 2-0 so having the series knotted at 1 sounds about right.

From watching the Bruins all season, they had similar issues to Chicago on the PP. It has definitely looked better lately (even got a goal in the first game) but I still have no confidence when they go up a man.

Sleep is overrated. Because it's the cup!

I'm just sick of hearing that the Bruins don't deserve victories. Heard a loooooot of that during the Pittsburgh series.

I didn't say they didn't deserve the win. I'm just saying that because they played well in the second half of the game that doesn't mean they were more deserving than Blackhawks who dominated the first half of the game. And ye, Chicago probably got tired since it was their third OT match in a row. They had some rest between first and second game but coming from a 2OT against Kings and 3OT against Bruins didn't help. I assume they don't slack between matches but practice like crazy (with less intensity but I don't think they're having picnics instead anyway).

And as much as I'd like to watch most of the games, we got hit with a first heat wave this summer (don't know how it is in the States but here we had cold spring up until a week ago and in a span of few days we got a full blown summer) so night is the only time I can shut my eyes, during the day it's just sweatsweatsweat and bitchbitchbitch.

Maybe I read your original post wrong then. We've been on a heat wave all month here, though that's typical. Sweatsweatsweat and bitchbitchbitch all the time for me. Too damn hot! :bitch:

I have a different topic... The Dallas Stars have 2 1st Round picks. Let's just assume a #10 and #30. No matter your team.... what would you do with those picks?

I know most people draft the best players and hope in 4 years they amount to something. However, for some reason, GMs love picks, so what hole would you fix on your team? What player would you obtain? How much value do you think these picks have? Not to mention the other 11 in the draft.

Personally, I don't value draft picks. I value up-and-coming and established NHL players.
Never take anything I say seriously.

    Calgary has 3 :P 6, 22 and 28
What I think of picks is unless it's the top handful of players it's not guaranteed that they're going to be any good at all, and against odds sometimes a 4th rounder winds up being the face of a franchise. Experience in the NHL is the only way to determine if they're going to be any good in the NHL.

Great game from the Bruins. Love it when they shut out the other team.

Draft picks are tough. Total crapshoot. For my team, since they're deep and at the cap right now with most of the core locked up I would use the picks for the future. Try and get a goal scorer. That prospect could end up being a trade asset if he looks good in Juniors/AHL too.

For Dallas, I'd say try to trade one of the picks. Obviously could get a better return for the early pick but they may be able to obtain a quality contributor for the late pick too. Depends on how deep the draft is and what's available at 10. Wouldn't pass on a blue chip prospect if he's there. For the late pick, maybe you can get a solid 3rd liner/borderline 2nd liner or a decent defenseman? I base this on absolutely nothing. :beerwink:

If your team is looking for a long term goalie prospect, go for Luka Gracnar. Of course I am biased towards my fellow countryman but he's suppose to go high up in the draft when goalies are concerned. He's predicted to go as high as second or third goalie pick. Not bad for a 19 year old. He went to the worlds this year as our third goalie and ended up starting he two toughest games - against Sweden (0:2) and against Canada (3:4).

Even if he gets picked he's suppose to move one step higher, moving from Red Bull Salzburg to Red Bull Munich in German league (suppose to be top5 league in Europe).

As for the draft picks, Dallas has always been very deep at goal. Hell, we traded Mike Smith away. It's supposed to be a really deep draft, so who knows....

I also find it strange to have Lindy Ruff as our new coach, since he was our opponent in 1999.

Hell yeah, game 5 is at 2am Sunday morning, I won't miss that. And luckily I don't have to go to work on Tuesday so I won't miss game 6 as well! And by that time, I hope Blackhawks will lift Lord Stanley's cup :D

That's enough out of you!

only caught the 3rd period of game 4 though we were able to listen to some of the 2nd on the radio. That was a wild game. No defense or goaltending to be found

Well to be fair, until being in Phoenix and working with goalie coach Sean Burke, no one really seemed too interested in Smitty. I hope he we re-sign with us.

And rejoice! Dave Tippett has signed a 5 year extension with the Yotes. Woohoo!

Sorry... I'm having a bit of trouble here.

The Dallas Stars are being managed by an ex-wing, and are now being coached by a sabre?
