Ok, so I know that you all know how much I loath and detest this Black Paste of Death, however, a thought did occur the other day (and yes, it hurt), so I am starting this survey.

To those who consume vegemite on a regular basis, how do you usually serve it?

On toast (or other warmed bread product): do you first put down an undercoat of margarine/butter, and then vegemite, or just go straight for the vegemite? So you do a light scraping, or ensure that the slice of toast looks like it's been burnt, there's so much vegemite?

On cold bread (or other bread product): in sandwich form, do you again put down an undercoat of margarine/butter, or just slather on the vegemite? Do you have vegemite as part of the innards of a normal sandwich (for example, ham, cheese, tomato and vegemite)?

How else do you do yours? Enquiring mind wants to know!.......

Crackers, I dip directly into the jar.

Sandwich - toasted bread, thin coat on eat side, which allows me to not have to put any salt on the sandwich.

I rarely eat "toast" so I never get a chance for it the traditional way.

On cold bread it's a thin layer of vegemite with cheese on top.

It's true. The best I can do is sushi with extra wasabi, dipped in Sudden Death sauce. However, the sauce is so strong that all I end up tasting is Sudden Death Sauce.

I have marmite from the cruise but didn't open it yet. Was waiting to finish the first jar of vegemite

Marmite is a rarity in NZ now, since the factory is out of production, people had stocked up on it and have started selling it in on-line auctions. People are paying upwards of $200 for a jar of that stuff! Ridiculous! Stupid thing is, the factory will be back in production in July. I'll wait a few months and buy one for $4 as opposed to $400, thanks. Morons!

No, Kevin is right, earthquake damage in Christchurch making the factory unsafe, so it's being repaired.

Anyway to answer the question, I don't eat a lot of this stuff, but when I do I like to have it on toast, but it has to be with margarine (butter is just too hard to spread and rips the toast up) when the toast is still warm and melts the margarine and vegemite/marmite together Yum!

Sometimes I have it spread on crackers, but rarely. Also sometimes I have it grilled on bits of bread in the oven with cheese. I never have it in sandwiches, it always has to be toasted.
