I had no idea about the Ska video, that was a nice WTF! moment, hahaha!

I was never a big fan of El Piojo, but you HAVE to respect what he's done with the team, and it's reflected both in their game and in the way they interact with him. Not many coaches are loved by their team like that.

Suck it, Group of Death! We're through. :deathhorns:

3/4 CONCACAF teams out of the group stage. Pretty impressive. Stupid Honduras.

I'm guessing the Dutch players might think too much of themselves and the mexicans might give them a surprise.

Sneijder and Robben are now up there with Maxi Rodríguez in my "Players I passionately hate for no other reason than kicking us out of the world cup" list.

Still, I'm very proud of the team. I was expecting they would make a ridiculous, terrible world cup, but they were brave and played awesomely. Perhaps if we'd faced another rival, we would have advanced. Oh well.

Yup. Wasn't expecting anything out of Mexico this time. Especially since it took a miracle for them to even make it to Brazil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE--yWohZro

It seems the players keep forgetting the game ends when the ref whistles, and that they shouldn't stop playing until then. Also, Robben's last dive was a dick move. Shame on him.

I personally have huge issues with penalty kicks in stoppage time. More often then not it is handing over a win. Happened in the Greece vs ivory coast game and at the Mexico game. I think they have a place and if it's a blatantly obvious penalty it's fair. Something like the one yesterday just doesn't make sense. Should have been a free kick with a yellow card

I would love, for once, to see a player run up to the diver after the call, clobber them then turn to the ref yelling, "Now THAT'S a fucking foul!"

Only half? That's like me saying that I hope Suarez goes to Barca and tries to bite Pepe!

I'm amazed (but not really...) that FIFA aren't going to do anything after he admitted to diving earlier in the game. More referees need to grow the balls to punish for simulation.

Also, I'm talking out of resentment here, but I seriously hope Netherlands is thoroughly humilliated at some point in this world cup. Hopefully by Costa Rica.

Or, you know, they could win the world cup. That'd be cool, too. "Sure, we lost in the round of 16, but we were kicked out by the champion..." ;)

I'd go for that second option lol.

But well, all in all the match was not a good one for the ref. Both sides had some dirty fouls and The Netherlands could have gotten 2 penalties in the first half of the match.

Absolutely agree. The referees have been shameful throughout the world cup. :?

And yes, that was a clear penalty. When will FIFA start adopting technologies?

I think I have only seen one or two matches in which the refs did a good job.

And technologies in soccer? Probably never, there is too much dirty money in it anyway.

How many of you here have ever played football? It's easy to be a smart ass sitting in a couch with beer in one hand and a bowl of potato chips in the other hand while watching 100532 replays from different angle. When you have to make a decision in a split second the ref will evaluate things from *HIS* point of view, not from the point of view of the zoomed in camera. In my book it took balls of steel to blow the penalty there because from ref's point of view it looks like Marquez stepped on the toes of Robben. Proenca is one of the best refs in the world and I highly doubt it he blew the whistle "just to send Mexico home" or because he's European.

this was my best weekend ever.
went to graspop on Thursday where i watched the red devils win from south korea
i really hope they will make it to the semi finals

the match against mexico was too close for comfort.
and yeah. the last penalty was no penalty.
but then again. we should had one in the first half for which that defender should have gotten a red card.
that was on oblivious attempt to kick robber out of the game (2 legs)

i am not saying Holland is going to be world champion, but now they make a very good chance as they have showed they can play offensive as well.

I agree, some times there are tough choices, but you can't honestly say the ref did a good job. There were two REAL penalties that he overlooked, Marquez kicking Robbem from behind and then the blatant kick in Herrera's face. Not to mention the lack of cards (both ways, but mostly for Holland).
Mexico lost the game on their own, they stopped doing what was working which was controlling the ball and setting their own rhythm. Also the last "cooling break" (which I think was bullshit) broke Mexico's pace even further and then the Dutch took over. If the game had gone to overtime with the min. 87 goal it would've been a very different deal.

But, uhm, that's the point. That's why refs make mistakes. They make calls based on their subjective point of view, and FIFA refuses to allow for technology to confirm their calls. It's ridiculous that JUST NOW they accepted goal-line technology. How many matches, just in this world cup, were decided by bad referee calls? Bosnia got kicked out because they got a legitimate goal anulled due to an inexistent offside. Remember the "penalty" in Croatia vs Brazil, Suárez not getting a card after biting Chellini... This world cup is awesome, yes, but the refereeing is still terrible and it wont' stop being awful until they allow a bit more of technology to ensure the rightness of dubious calls.

I don't think Proenca did it to fuck up Mexico, but, well... Look at it this way: we got two legitimate goals annulled because of the whims of a (probably blind) judge, then two clear penalties weren't called in the match vs Croatia... And the refereeing vs Brasil was also slightly in their favor... So it's kind of hard not to blame the ref when the game is decided after a very dubious penalty. Especially when two very clear ones (one for each side) weren't called in the first half...

That being said, the thing I liked the most about this Mexican team was how they didn't let the referees get in their heads. "Oh, you won't give me two legitimate goals? Here's another." "You won't call that clear penalty? That's OK, we'll score three goals." So, yeah, blaming just the ref (or Robben, for that matter) is kinda lame and (I think) below the attitude the team showed this world cup. In the end, like gundieslavo said, Mexico gave the match away (why the hell would you put Aquino in the game and take out Dos Santos??) and tried to keep the score as it was, instead of trying to increase the diference. You can't do that versus teams like Netherlands, and we paid the price of the mistake.

btw, i also agree there should be more use of technological help.
the 4th official does not do anything much right now besides holding up boards for substitutes and extra time, so this would be a good job for him and inform the first official
i that case holland wouldn't have gotten 2 unfair penalty's against (spain and australia) and i also remember a foul in the finales against spain which cost us the game

i can understand why people hate robben with trying to get penalty's. but i think he's a great (team)player
for the dutch cam's he gave a great interview after the game of australia praising none of his own work, but the work of all teammembers

Oh, I just hate him because he's responsible for the penalty that costed us going out. Just like I hate Maxi Rodríguez, from Argentina.

I agree that Robben is one of the best players alive.

Shame! Impressive goalkeeping by Howard, though. And I still don't understand how that free kick didn't go in.

Tim Howard deserved better. What a performance by him. That could have been an absolute blowout. Belgium just kept coming.

    Also, dammit Wondo!

That was a fantastic set play. Shame it didn't get a good result.

No games today? What is this!?! As such, boredom quotes!

Of the sides that banned sex - Spain, Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chile and Mexico - none made it past the last 16.

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari hasn't banned it, but will monitor it. He said: 'The players can have normal sex during the World Cup. Usually normal sex is done in balanced way, but there are certain forms, certain ways and others who do acrobatics. We will put limits and survey the players.'
