    "Real" Royal Caribbean cruises anyone?

    by SpaceSlug » Wed Aug 08, 2018 3:34 pm

Just curious if anyone has done any legit royal caribbean cruises. Where did you go. Recommendations for good places or bad places?

I am in the States so I have a cruise booked for Cozumel & Cuba next year. Pretty excited about that one.

Also, the real cruises are a great way to boost yourself to those robes or anything else royal does for its Crown and Anchor society since real cruises have double the points for suites!

few years back I did "real" cruises. Consumed drinks on those cruises were maybe a 1/8 of the amounts that is consumed on one 70000tons cruise. Done Eastern and Western Caribbean cruise on board Allure and Oasis. Costa Maya (Tulum ) and St. Thomas have been my favourite stops so far. Cuba is definately on my list of places to go.

First cruise ever was with family about 5 years ago on Disney Cruise Line out of Port Canaveral, FL. 7 nights and we went to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Disney's private island called Castaway Cay in The Bahamas. Outside of my 2017 cruise on 70,000 Tons, it's been our favorite cruise ever. April of this year, we did RC "Liberty of the Seas" out of Galveston for 7 nights, with stops in Cozumel, Costa Maya, and one more which was supposed to be at Roatan but their pier was damaged the day before by another cruise line's ship. It was an OK time...a relatively cheap vacation compared to Disney Cruise Line or other vacation options, and one that we really needed to do after dealing with serious health issues with some family members. Feel free to ask me questions if you want to hear more or compare with other options. (Looking forward to my second 70K cruise this coming January!)

I do a fair amount of "normal" cruising. For me, here are the differences.

70,000 Tons - Marked by "Go, go, go". There are 120 metal shows to chose between, friends you only see once a year to hang out with, merch to buy, kareoke to participate in, clinics, meet and greets, etc, etc.... Sleep is hard to come by, more then food on the go, also hard to come by. It's an intense experience, and one I thoroughly enjoy. Even though it's go, go, go, it's not in a stressful way, it just trying to cram in as much as I can in the 4 days on this ship. Accept there is some stuff I will miss out on this trip, and that's ok. Prioritize what bands, event, etc are important and make sure those happen. Everything else is as you get a chance...at least for me.

Normal cruise - It's all about the chill. Enjoy the ship more. Check out the Casino, wake boarding, rock climbing wall, shows. There is no super rush. If I don't do it one day...it will be there the next. Far more chill. Sleep in. Have a 2 hour meal. It's a completely different vibe.

I can like both Jalapeños and Oranges...it doesn't mean they have much in common :)

This year I will be doing both back to back, I know a few people who do this. If your one of those, feel free to chill out with me on days 5,6,7,8 and 9!

Since moving to FL my husband and I started doing 2-3 cruises a year. So far I can say Nassau is my least favorite and Roatan has been my favorite of all the islands I've been to.

70k was my first cruise ever, so when I went to go on Majesty on a non-70k cruise I was worried I'd be bored and honestly, Majesty is boring without bands during days at sea. Next time I went I planned to have no days at sea and it was much better. Next year we are giving Symphony a try, so I'm sure that'll be awesome even during days at sea since they have so much to do. I've also cruised with Disney and Norwegian (but only for Star Trek and never a "real" cruise lol).
