FYI....this is my take on the 70K "Pool Girls" (for what it's worth )
(this is a copy and paste from the a fb post I made on the forum fiends group today so the full context is lacking; for example I used the word feminist right away because that word was being used here and there in the previous postings)
This whole pool girl thing raises tons of different feelings and issues with people, doesn't it? As a very old school 70s era type feminist (and I proudly call myself a feminist to this day), I have mixed feelings about it to be honest. On the one hand, I myself have worn (somewhat) provocative clothing on occasion in my life (more so when I was younger - *wink* )...why? because it's sexy and fun! So, I totally get why some women like Samantha and the others might take a "gig" like this wearing some sexy clothes (while looking great in them because they're beautiful young *women*) and get a free cruise out of it to boot. So, I'm not going to diss these women for being pool girls (if they were hookers or strippers as well, well....then I might). Having said that, even if I had the youth and body to be hired as one, I wouldn't do it because I'd miss being up front and center for the pool deck band sets which would defeat the whole purpose for me of being on the boat in the first place. Also....on the *other* hand, it *is* tiresome to me that almost everything has to have some T&A thrown in. UMC didn't have any of that the first and second cruises (at least any that was "officially sanctioned"), which was kind of refreshing. I'm curious why they felt the need to start now?
Ultimately, this is really not a big deal to me in any way, shape or form, plus I won't even be on this month's cruise....just puttin' it out there, that's all. And as far the clothing line goes, I think it's actually really awesome - lots of sexy stuff on their website no doubt!!

This topic definitely raises particular sociological issues for some, and as a social science student, I fully support that. I feel that it's essential that we consider and examine gender issues, and it's a topic I knew would be raised along with this project. As a self-respecting woman and metalhead, I've considered both sides myself. However, in the end, the Pool Girls (at least for me) is supposed to be a fun (and perhaps somewhat silly) addition to the cruise. Necessary? Perhaps not, as I've attended 70000TONS 2011 and 2012 without Pool Girls, and was intending on painstakingly saving my pennies throughout this semester in order to be a part of this again, as it has easily been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
As a client, I've never dealt with a company or individuals that were more understanding and helpful than UMC (I've had a lot of bookings, cancellations, and rebookings). One of the main requirements for the Pool Girls was that we must be Metal, and I can assure you, we are all pretty fucking metal, first and foremost. As the project progressed, Toxic Vision came onbroad, and what was initially supposed to be simple 70000TONS girlie Ts or dresses became custom Toxic Vision uniforms. Let me just state that I have never modeled before, I am a metalhead through and through and am most comfortable in a pit with a beer in hand thrashing around, but despite my nerves at the prospect of being a Pool Girl (alongside a few that are actual metal models), I am predominantly stoked to be back onbroad with everyone, including these 7 other fine and super chill ladies whom you will all meet. And I hope, whatever anyone's reservations might be, we can all rock out and have a blast... our shift's end at 6 p.m., at which point we'll all tear back to our cabins, put on some sensible shit-kickers, and meet you all back on the Pool Deck for a beer.
P.S. Check out a few of the girl's bands:

I'll see you all after 6pm then
I have nothing against you ladies being onboard, and I am quite aware that being uncomfortable around you all in your Toxic Vision Bikinis is entirely due to my own bad body image.
Disclaimer: Two of my best friends are alternative models. I'm quiet aware I have body image issues and that I only have myself to blame.

There are a number of sponsors of 70K; Metal Hammer, Revolver, Ardschok etc. I don't see what the big deal is with Toxic Vision being a sponsor in their own way. How better to display your wares than by having models wear them at the event. The fact that the models, like Samantha, were able to get abroad by being a model is just a great opportunity for them and more power to them I say. If they were giving out Jaeger shots or cigars this wouldn't even get a mention. Samantha and co., have a great time onbroad and I have no doubt the majority of cruisers support the efforts of the product your are promoting.

If I was going, I would try to get a t-shirt made up that had something like "99.99 % Metal Poser" It would be even more awesome as a golfshirt.

That's pretty effin awesome. I would love to see guys with 99.99% Metal Poser polo shirts on the cruise! HAHAH. hey a lot of we cruisers are managerial types hence how we can afford such amazing nonsense in the first place.

I don't have long hair even, and I've been busted by the fun police at black metal shows
