    Hearing Loss

    by zman1975 » Mon Jan 31, 2011 9:44 pm

I have a constant ringing in my ears from this 4 day long concert. I wore earplugs during some of it, but not all.
Is anyone else having this problem???? It's been 4 days since the festival ended, and I was thinking of going to a doctor to check it out.

Perhaps you should see a doctor. I didn't wear any earplugs and had no problems. Although you may have seen some louder bands than me.

Regardless, 2 days is the longest my ears have rung after a show.

Hopefully it works out for you. I almost never forget earplugs anymore. I brought a jar of them on the boat with me. I want to be able to go to shows when I'm 60. The longest I've ever experienced was 1 week of ringing.

Didn't wear earplugs, stood in front of amps the whole time, ears are fine; glad to be 24.

I assume I won't be feeling the same way in about 6-10 years though.

I definitely couldn't hear out of my right ear after the first Witchburner show but that went away in a day or so.

You should be fine, but do go see a doctor if you still have it by the end of the week.

Over 2 decades back when I first started going to shows, I would get a ringing in my ears for a day or so afterwards.
After it happening for about 2 years on and off after a show it suddenly stopped happening. I never did wear earplugs, since I never get ringing anymore.

I'd give it a bit longer. Unless you believe you punctured your ear drum they will attribute it to the loud music, say you have tinnitus and to wait it out. The best they can possibly do is give you something if they believe it is sinus related.

I find most time it is a mental thing, the more you focus on it the worse it will be. The two other treatments are a bit extreme if this is your first case of it. One is a masker which is a expensive device that pretty much makes a noise to mask the ring, the other is to sever your ear drum making you deaf in that ear

    YES. I caught that! haha..
Also, seconded on the vocal cords. I blew mine out last Tuesday night between Iced Earth and Moonspell. They are just starting to come back... which has sucked. Because there is so much to talk about, and everyone wants to hear, but I feel like I'm shouting just to get a little bit of sound out.

Beer seems to cut through it and help though, strangely enough! Maybe it has to do with how I became so hoarse... kind of like having to break the spell with a certain appropriate key or charm. :P

Haha, it sounds like a bunch of us got sick. I've had a brutal head cold since I got back. Probably due to being drunk the entire time, not sleeping and going in and out of the hot tub during the night-time pool deck shows. Either way, it was worth it!

I wore earplugs for every show. (except the second ensiferum show, where I got kicked in the ear by some drunk chick and my plugs went flying... )

I try and wear ear plugs every time we rehearse as well.. the only time I don't wear the plugs is when we're actually on stage... because I really like hearing the stage sound!

I'm actually quite surprised that the staff weren't wearing ear plugs at all during the whole week. I didn't see even one person working on the boat with ear plugs. I wonder if they maybe should have been notified earlier, or had RC supply a big-ass bag of ear plugs for them.. :?

I saw some staff wearing them, but not many. I agree, they maybe weren't notified and none were available on the ship. I felt kind of bad for them. Luckily we brought some. Next year, we'll be bringing a whole lot more.

good thing about Switzerland, you get earplugs at every concert for free! it took us years to finally make the Wacken organization give away earplugs; anyway, I'm going to get those "personalized/professional earplugs for musicians", expensive, but my hearing is worth more ;)

I wear earplugs as often as I can and had them in for every set during the trip. I unfortunately have permanent ringing in my ears, so I'm trying to prevent it from getting any worse. Personally though I actually prefer the way shows sound with the plugs in. When I take them out, everything sounds tinny.

My wife and I recently started trying ear plugs at shows. Oddly enough the music sounds so much better and no ear ringing by the end of the night. Guess that's how the sound guys check stuff out to... with plugs in. :shred:

Can't find the site I usually buy from atm but I use these at all gigs and when practicing / jamming with live drums. Sounds better and no ringing / damage. They can be a little over $10/pair but I think I bought a dozen pair last time for something like $80 and this will last me years as they're washable/reusable, just use mild soap and water. Only used one pair on the entire cruise and they're still like new.
