    can't really comment on Atheist

Been listening to Atheist for the last hour or so. Lots of pretty cool grooves and riffs (the bassist is impressing me for sure), but goddamn the vocalist is beyond awful. And the drummer isn't anything great either. Makes it almost unbearable.

And if the vocalist is worse than this now (I've mostly been watching old Wacken videos) there's no chance I'd be able to make it through a set.

At the same time, I totally see why a lot of you guys are into this type of music. Definitely not my cup of tea, but I "get" it, I guess.

According to Wikipedia, I've been listening to mostly Tony Choy (most of the newer stuff and some stuff from 'Elements').

And I am not impressed at all with Steve Flynn, but that's because I've been drumming for 14 years and I'm an elitist prick

    Hehehe, sure!

I think learning how to play instrument(s) ruins the way you listen to music. I took drum lessons for way too long and now I can't NOT listen to how drummers use certain techniques and everything. And I've been playing guitar for 10 years too (but I'm not nearly as critical of that). There are a ton of people that play guitar/bass/drums/sing here that probably agree with me on this: if I didn't know stuff about music/theory/how to play instruments, I'd be a happier music listener ::grumble grumble::

But it is a heavy metal cruise. :shred: :shred: :shred:

Egg Squeezing? I can't say that I ever heard that term before

Crimson Glory are like Alice in Chains, in that people across all metal genres respect and/or enjoy them, regardless of their own personal musical preference.

This isn't a death/thrash cruise, it's a metal cruise. So you are gonna get bands from all genres.

And please don't get Crimson Glory, we have enough of this "egg-squeezing" metal, some of the whishes here are more heavy rock than heavy metal. :bitch:

But it is a heavy metal cruise. :shred: :shred: :shred:

Sorry but I had to mention this.

So wait it's a Heavy metal cruise but you're bitching about more Heavy metal orientated bands being booked on the cruise and think it's more appropriate to have a Death metal band booked because for some bizarre reason you consider them closer to Heavy metal than Crimson glory?

    My thoughts:
With a lineup this bad, they won't get many tickets sold on release to the 2013 cruise. This year a lot of tickets were sold just because we somehow thought that 2012 would be as good as 2011. I'm sure I'm going to have a good time, but that time won't be in front of the stages. 5 bands, WTF.

I'm actually hoping that some of the upcoming announcements are bands I don't care about so I can get some down time onbroad.

I have to disagree. Yes, for a thrash lover last time was as good as it could get, but for the fans of most other genres this year is shaping up to be better. I think this lineup is much more varied than last cruise's was and if I were to think booking for 2013 based on the lineup so far, I'd definitely book.

I dunno man, 7 of the last 10 announcements have been on the heavier side, I don't see what there is to complain about from that standpoint.

I was always focused on the guitar. Metal made me pick up the guitar and learn to play. And if anything, I appreciate it even more because metal is not a form of music you can just pick up and play. There is usually a virtuostic element to it. And I can more fully appreciate the time and effort it takes these guys to get where they are, how they construct their music, etc.
Never take anything I say seriously.

Am I Evil? I am Dan. Yes, I am!

Meredith would overcome sickness to see them play, so no worries. Jungle Rot are a Finberg band, so you never know...

Sorry, I did not want to offend anybody here. everybody has a different opinion about the meaning of "heavy". We all have different tastes and preferences and if Andy would really like to represent every genre he would also get some Metalcore, grind etc. ;) I think he is more into Old School bands, not that I don't like them (see my Morbid Angel whish), but just for my personal view he could get some "younger" bands. I am a little afraid to just see bands in my age :D :D :D Well you know getting older is not always fun
You see I am not so serious about this point, I was just thinking loud and of course I respect every opinion here. Cheers Ripley

Aye i can complete understand what you are saying.I'm still going to enjoy next years cruise but as far as i'm concerned i'm out after that.
They'd need to book some incredibly amazing list of bands for the rest of the slots for me to want to come back.

For the same price i can get much better value in Europe .Doesn't need to be on a boat ;)
