I expect at least 2 more bands of a less known name level :givebeer:

Not necessarily, this year no band was playing at 9 AM ;) Some bands were playing at 10 already, and one band was playing until 5.30. [/topofmyheadstatsmanmode]

9 or 10 what ever, every concert has an opening band.
this year we had Cripper and Swashbuckel and even Exodus on one stage on the 1st day

I love Belgium as a country - my Nanna's brother's name is recorded on the Menin Gate in Ypres, which I visited back in 2004.

Lovely place, but me still no likey Channel Zero :P

Anyway, this month we've seen announcements on Tuesday, Friday, Monday, Friday, and now a Tuesday. Friday looking good for next announcement, yes?

7 to go (unless we get a couple more fillers like 2011). So if we get 1 (or lets say 2, as a christmas present) that would leave 5 to go from 23rd December on.

It would make little sense to make any announcements over the xmas period - due to the fact that lots of people won't be online much, and more importantly the media sites like your Metal Rules, your Blabbermouth, etc wont be updating much either meaning the news won't get much exposure.

So yeah my guestimate is a couple of announcements coming this Friday, then probably nothing until mid-to-late next week when we will get another couple, finishing off with maybe 1 big-or-semi-big announcement and a few fillers in early January :)

Laura wrote:Perhaps odd to say this considering 70K is a "metal" cruise - but seeing Uli perform Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix was perhaps my biggest "epic moment" on that cruise - also the fact that Chuck Billy joined him on stage. Uli is 57 years old, I am 50 years old, Little Wing was released in 1968, I'm a big Hendrix fan, and there Uli was performing it in the year 2011 to a crowd that included people probably as young as 18 and as old as around 60. If that isn't a *perfect* example of how truly "great music" comes around, goes around, and travels through time....I don't know what is. I know I've mentioned this before, but the fact that I was able to tell him *in person* how much I enjoyed that whole set (ha - when I saw him at about 5:00 am in the karaoke place), was pure icing on the cake.

For me his gig (the one at the pool, didn't see the one indoors due to Fear Factory playing at the same time) was one of the - unexpected - highlights as well. It was amazing to hear those Scorpions classics live (the Scorpions were the first metal band I started listening to, seen them live a few times but they don't play that stuff anymore) and also great to see how lots of members of other bands (especially Marc Osegueda standing next to me) were going nuts during his set. :headbanger: <- In lack of a worship smiley

 I agree that it was an unexpected highlight - that whole scene & vibe on the pool deck was just so awesome. And - of course - the Scorpions tunes Uli did were fantastic (see sig wishlist ;) ). Scorpions was one of those bands that I heard for the first time during high school years in the late 70s - their music made a very big impression on me (loved them ;) ) and therefore they were a big influence on my developing tastes in music during that key time of my teenage years. (gosh - that was a mouthful :P ) Cool they were the first "metal" band you got into. Forumite Behnwilson and I got into a "hard rock"/"heavy metal" terminology discussion once on the forum - he remembered that even Led Zeppelin had been referred to as "heavy metal" in the 70s which to be honest I did not remember - I seem to remember my friends and I referring to a lot of the stuff we listened to in the mid to late 70s like Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Scorpions, Foghat, Van Halen, AC/DC and UFO to name a few, as all "hard rock bands." I guess it really doesn't matter at this point :P - although I usually think of Opeth as *my* first metal band that I started listening to....hmmm - maybe I need to revise my thinking on this. :beerwink:

Yep, checked the CD collection, I have Channel Zero-Unsafe, pretty sure I even liked them at the time but just didn't come across any more of their albums and haven't listened to this in at least a decade. I'll check out a set depending on who else is playing at the same time, but I have to say I'm more stoked that the landing party is close to Germany than the announcement itself. Doro or Accept would make an awesome Xmas announcement.

    Here's what I'm thinking....
...can I buy a bottle of rum & run around with it?
I got a leather holder for one...I don't care if it costs me $100, I fucking want one. Alestorm, Tankard, and SO many other reasons. How bout cause that's what I run around doing now. Just listening to Metal, with my bottle. Captain Morgan Tattoo these days. Anyways, a bottle. Yes, one of those, and furthermore, me wants Morbid Angel. Argue if you will, but Morbid Angel is doing what they have always done. Making what they feel. So what if you & I & most of the metal world doesn't like 70% of it, an Altars & or & Blessed set would rule, you all know this.
But don't do much more that I love. Andy. Please.
    Because,
this here is the baddest ass most cool thang that ever did happen. And I am going to lose my mind about it all.
You say Morbid Angel & Triptykon and I'm going to come kick your fucking ass for being so God Damned fucking cool. You asshole.
    Sob.

No chance of walking around w/ a rum bottle, not even one you buy from duty free. There is a whole thread on bringing booze onbroad and duty free purchases etc. If you want info about sneaking alcohol onbroad, I know an expert in the craft, and he is me...

Boo! Bad answer. I'm saying, if I bought 12 rum drinks at once, and poured them into a bottle ... fuck. I guess I'll just have to make real good friends with those who bring drinks to wherever it is that I am standing. I don't want kicked off, I want easy drink. Fuck. I don't like the idea of depending on a drink served. When I'm ready for some rum, I need the swig ready, not on call. Whatever, makes for a bunch of busy bartenders then if you ask me.
Because sick metal, she abounds, this is going to be outta farking hand.

I'll probably be limited since I'll likely be flying into Miami with it and will have to watch the weight of my bag. But i'll try get as much as I can. :whisky:

p.s. Libertine: I doubt you would be able to walk around with a full bottle of rum BUT I think you could easily get away with it if you transfer it to a different (innocent) bottle/container. I remember being passed an OJ carton by our good friend Duane (rip) which contained some kind of Arizona moonshine. Big glass bottles are a bit too obvious but there's ways around that.

Well on the 23rd of last year we got a triple announcement of DESTRUCTION, MALEVOLENT CREATION, DUSKMACHINE which at the time brought us up to 38 bands. Even if we get the same type of announcement, we will still be 2 bands behind last year's announcements. So I am hopeful for something that's unexpected, regardless of the genre.

I'd be happy enough with a single, double, or even triple announcement of bands we're pretty sure about (especially since 2 of them I thoroughly enjoy)
