This year we, and quite a lot of others who joined us as we walked towards Washington Avenue, took the 103 (Route C) bus downtown. I think the bus stop on South Beach was at Washington @ 8th Street, and in downtown it was a couple of blocks from the pre-party. There were like fifty metalheads on the bus and the driver became very pissed at our loud, drunken lot.

Is there also an official pre-party? I don't know if there are also some persons who wont go to that unofficial pre-party, but I'm one of them. Except Helstar that I'll see on the ship, there's not really a band that I'm curious to see as I'm not a thrash/death or black metal fan

No, there's no official pre-party, at least not any organised by UMC, but this is about as official as it gets I think without being "official". I mean I believe it's recognised by UMC and some of their staff go there I think, and band members will be there even if they're not performing at the party. There's also the beach party on the same day in the afternoon, normally from about 2 - 6pm or so.

Great idea. My roomie and I are staying on Southbeach and would like to do both the beach party and the pre party. I am certainly up for getting cabs with any of you interested.

Night before this years cruise I was in a southbeach bar & was enjoying watching the football with the beer bucket specials going good! Then the football finished which meant the beer bucket specials no longer applied! Ordered a simple stubby of Heineken & the bartender said " 9 & a quarter"! $9.25 for a stubby of Heiniken! Quickly became my last!!

Tips are included as Donn (Captain Metal) has said before.. I didn't know that LAST year..

Really, overall, with these great bands,cheap ticket( can walk from the Holiday Inn-Port) just mind the sleeping homeless on the sidewalk, and getting meet and greet with new and veteran cruisers( it's tradition for a new cruiser to buy one veteran a beer (ME!!!).... Not my law, it;s the law of the sea--this is a cheap night!

What makes this unofficial as opposed to official? I haven't heard of any other pre-parties, and I believe this is at the same venue as the last OFFICIAL pre-party for 70K.

There has never been an official pre-party. They all have been organized by Donn and are 'unofficial'.
