Yeah, I'd say the Cripper award should be given to Izegrim and Nekrogoblikon. Awesome shows, awesome bands, awesome people.

Of the 'newer' bands, I caught a bit of Izegrim and Risign Storm, and Rising Storm didn't really do much for me.

So my vote goes to Izegrim also.

Id vote them but ive been wanting to see them for a long time. Actually this year we didnt really see any bands we werent familiar with. MIssed both Izegrim and Rising Storm sets so I dont think there were any newer and unknown bands we checked out.

Yeah I was actually disappointed with Rising Storm. I love the album but they didn't have the same punch live, in the vocals or the instruments.

Not to be a downer, but Rising Storm did not do it for me at all. Izegrim was a little better, but they couldn't get me up from those comfy lounge chairs in the Spectrum.

This is for new, up and coming artists. Gloryhammer may be "new" but everyone knows who they are and they certainly aren't as "small" as the others.

Well they're still "small though" as most ppl hadn't heard of them.

Ok, in the past the criteria I went on was last.fm listens so I'll go check that now and figure out who should be counted and who shouldn't. Nightmare had like 12 albums but were still pretty small.

Being "small" is quite subjective ;) People were asking "who this new band Vicious Rumours was" for 2012 and they released first album in 1985. For me they were big adition back then.

Yeah for sure that's why I tried having an objective way of looking at it. This is what we decided on before:

Stained Class wrote:Clearly we need some sort of criteria to decide if a band counts or if they're too big. I'll check listeners on last.fm and compare bands.

Edit: Ok Ok, last.fm didn't even know the difference between the french Heavy Metal band and the Japanese visual-k band. So looks like we have a winner!
Also, I compared the listens to the albums so I could get an actual number. Bands like Onslaught and Heidevolk had 25000 + listens on the albums and bands like Steel Engraved and Nightmare had less than an 10th of that. That's how I'll go about it in the future haha.

So, going off of that Izegrim's albums all have <1000 listens and Gloryhammer's only album is >5000, so are most of Vicious Rumors'. Judging by that I'd say they don't qualify.

I must have skipped what you quoted there. So with that, I guess Poltergeist and Rising Storm qualify as well.

Yes. That was a couple years ago I posted that. those bands qualify but Izegrim was undoubtedly the winner ;)

Hehehe, cool to see this conversation. Award or no award, we had the time of our lives (and I speak on behalf everyone in Izegrim). It was a blast; the whole atmosphere, our gigs, the gigs of the other bands, the audience, organisation, meeting new and old friends. Everything was perfect. I've never been a firm believer of 'competion' within the metalmusic (I hate metal-battle competions etc etc), so if we get this award or not: we will never forget this experience ! And indeed, we are no newbies (the band has been around for some time), but I got the impression that for 90% of the people onboard we kinda were a new band :-) Which is COOL because we reached a shitload of new metalheads. Cheers !

I had never heard of you before 70000 Tons, and will now purchase all available CDs. What a great band! Hopefully you will be touring the USA at some point...perhaps with bands of similar make-up such as Cripper (who has turned into one of my favorite thrash bands) or Arch Enemy? Thanks for your music!

Izegrim gets my vote too. Rising Storm was good, but they lacked the punch the had on the album.

The Cripper Award should become an actual physical thing.

The winners should get invited back on a 3 year rotation, so we should get Diamond Plate and Seita next year

I heard Fatal Smile was really, really good too (from Margie). Didn't get a chance to see them though.

I caught one of the Fatal Smile sets. Surprisingly good from what I recall. Love that I get to see a lot of music I normally wouldn't be exposed to on the cruise!

Hey everyone! First of all THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming up with that Cripper award thing!! It makes us happy and proud!

We had a blast on board again, and since the Cripper award seems to be an ongoing thing, we sat together in our rehearsal room yesterday and thought about making it a real physical something. So, I guess it's time to get creative. We had a few ideas, but one stayed on the surface. How about a cut-off vest with a golden (?) Cripper Award/70k/whatever logo painted or embroided on the back and each band picked for the year gets it in the mail and adds a patch to it, maybe also signs it. The band can then send it to next year's band etc.

Let me know what you think - ideas very welcome!

So... it seems this year's Cripper Award goes to Izegrim?? :bangers:

 Love it! Wonder if we can get DLJ or Stach to design something for the vest.

If we make that vest, it should be send to all of these bands - or they can send their patches and we will put em on before we send it to Izegrim!?
