Yes, I have never had an actual chance to see them. Brendon Small is actually a great guitarist/musician and I'd love to see it live.

Would be pretty cool to see. Not gonna wish for them or anything but would definitely go see them if they made it on the ship.

I've seen them live 5 times. I have enjoyed them everytime I saw them. They would be fun on the cruise. They would have to have the Dr. Rockzo intermission video from the last tour. It was so stupid & funny.

I would definitely like to see Dethklok onbroad but I'm not being overly optimistic that they will be.

You have between a 0% and 0% chance of getting Dethklok on board. Dethklok is big enough to say they are doing their own cruise.

Dethklok < Nightwish and Nightwish played. Dethklok would probably be a headliner if they did though, and if you ask me that'd be a waste of a headliner spot.

Nightwish > Dethklok ? Yeah, in Canada. Don't mistake the Canadian scene and the U.S. scene as being the same. Trust me, they are quite different.

Yeah, fair enough. I was more refering to the world, since nearly half of the people onbroad come from Europe anyways...

    Xthor,

    Anywhere except the U.S. :)

There has never been a high charting / high selling U.S. band on any UMC cruise. This is supposed to be for U.S. fans to get to see alot of bands they normally never get to see. That's why I go.

    Stained,

The cruise is supposed to be for people in the U.S. Europeans just seem to buy up all the cabins, haha.

Dude, the reason you go is not necessarily the reason others go. It never has said anywhere that this is geared towards a US audience. The assumption that the audience would be largely US based is implied with the geographical location alone.

Anyways. Nightwish have ~7 times more listens on last.fm than dethklok. Dethklok are certainly bigger than nightwish in North America, but that doesn't mean they could be ruled out for future cruises. I personally think it's unlikely that they would be on this one seeing as there are some very expensive-to-book bands on already (in flames...)

That's because Americans in general have shitty music taste. ;)

(Seriously, though, I see that Dethklok actually made it to the US Billboard, which kind of proves the above line wrong).

Testament is on tour during 70k, so Gene would have to decide who to play drums with.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Dethklok. The cartoon is somewhat entertaining, but as an actual band, the music holds nothing special for me. I'd rather have an actual :deathmetal: band than a Cartoon Network production.

I'll modify my cruise is for people of the US statement to say people of North America.

Until there is a large scale US band on the cruise, you can absolutely rule out a band like Dethklok.

Well no, you're still wrong. The cruise is for anyone anywhere in the world to come and enjoy metal on a cruise of the Carribean. The point of it being in north america is that it's in the carribean, not because of the geographical fanbase.

It's absolutely open to all, but this cruise is bringing the European style festival circuit to the U.S. at sea. It's primarily European bands that don't see much exposure in the U.S.

Europeans have similar cruises and experiences already. They choose to do this one. Most of these bands do 10x better in Europe than they do stateside. Hence the diversity of those on board.

I agree with you in that respect, I'm just saying it's wrong to say that the cruise is "for" north americans. He promotes it quite a bit in Europe (barge was announced at wacken) and in flyers/magazines and stuff.

Sure. I feel it started out as something primarily targeted for North Americans to see bands they don't get to see and it transformed into a "Hey German, come to American and watch Sodom, Tankard, Doro, and Kreator at sea." Check out Miami w/ your ridiculous vacation time.

Europeans have similar cruises and experiences already. They choose to do this one. Most of these bands do 10x better in Europe than they do stateside. Hence the diversity of those on board.

That kind of makes no sense, man. I mean, it makes no sense to say "Hey, y'all. We know you don't like these bands, so here's a cruise with them all". Then again, neither does "Oh, you want to know the line-up a week before the cruise? How cute".

But, bussiness-wise, the cruise doesn't seem targeted to Americans, since (as you've pointed out) they don't like that much most of the bands on the cruise... If what UMC wanted to do was fill HMOS with Americans, they'd book bands that are popular in America. Since they don't do that, I say they are not seeking out that particular niche.

Well, I disagree. I think that there are north american fans that like the euro style and we don't often get catered to because the american style bands are so much more popular. This is giving us a chance to not have to travel so far to see them. And he knows it'll work because we're the hardcore fands that had to dig to find these bands, since they aren't popular over here, so we're willing to spend the money to go on this festival.

Yes, my point is that if the aim of the cruise was to fill it with Americans, they'd bring more US popular bands. I don't think Andy/UMC has a geographical niche targeted. More like, people-who-like-european-style-metal fans, from all over the world... But, you know, maybe we could ask him.

EDIT: I think that now the world is so "connected" (I hate using that kind of phrases but what the hell) that festivals like 70K or Wacken bring people from all over the world. It certainly is convenient for us people-who-live-in-America-the-continent, because it is certainly cheaper than flying to Germany or Finland. But I wouldn't say that we are the target market.

Yeah, metal is definitely a global market. The primary aim of the cruise is definitely global, I'm just glad us (north) americans that like euro metal are finally getting something. I guess we've had PPUSA for a while too, but that one is in it's last couple of years.

rwalters wrote:Well no shit. Americans aren't buying tickets. Why do you think there are always so many German bands on here?

and maybe there are a lot of German bands because the organizer, Andy Piller, is German.

Let's not forget that this is a business, the primary goal is to sell tickets and make a profit, regardless of the country/continent of origin of the audience. I would think that the cruise being so internationally desirable would be a point of pride for UMC. It's marketed as "the world's biggest heavy metal cruise", it's marketed to draw an international audience, and it has always been that way.
