    Final Tallies

    by Ecliptica » Sat Feb 02, 2013 1:10 pm

All right, kids, another list thread!

Which bands did you see? How much did you spend on the boat? Did you get any guitar picks/setlists/drum sticks? Shoot any cool videos?
Time to tally it all up!

Sets Seen -- 27ish [plus a couple of scattered songs by other bands]
    Angra (2x)
    Arkona (2x)
    Delain (1x)
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter (couple of songs at end of first set getting ready for Holy Grail)
Dragonforce (1.5x -- regrettably missed most of the first set)
Ensiferum (1x -- second set [skipped first to be early for Angra])
    Evergrey (.5x -- second set)
    Heidevolk (2x)
    Helloween (2x)
    Holy Grail (2x)
In Flames (.5x -- second set; only saw 'Trigger'-whatever 2 songs they played after those)
Kreator (.5x -- second set [left early to get front row for Sabaton])
    Nightmare (1x -- first set )
Metal Church (1x -- first set)
Rage & Lingua Mortis Orchestra (1x -- second set)
    Sabaton (2x)
Subway to Sally (1x -- second set)
Turisas (1.5x -- cut out of second set after 'Hunting Pirates' to be early for Angra)
    Týr (2x)
    Unexpect (2x)

    Guitar Picks/Drumsticks
    None

    Setlists Obtained
    -Angra (second set)
-Metal Church (first set/greatest hits set)
    -Unexpect (second set)

    Videos Taken
Dragonforce -- Valley of the Damned (first set)
Alex Lee from Holy Grail and Joey doing ridiculously awesome yo-yo stuff (will send this to you, Joey)
Turisas -- The March of the Varangian Guard (second set)
Turisas -- To Holmgard and Beyond (second set)
Turisas -- One More (second set)
Angra -- Rage of the Waters (second set)
Ensiferum -- In My Sword I Trust (second set)
Rage & LMO -- Almost the entire second set :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger:

    Meet and Greets
Unexpect (which was stupid since, after the meet and greet, I saw them and hung out with them EVERYWHERE the rest of the cruise)

    Final Bill
    $1148.xx
To be fair though, $1000 of that was from the casino, $30 was merch, and only ~$120 was drinks. Probably the worst run I've ever had in blackjack -- did make some back (~$350) the last night though.

    3 Inches of Blood - 2
Anaal Nathrakh - 0 (was in the viking lounge not really paying attention and couldn't really hear it, I guess you could count 1)
    Anacrusis - 2
    Angra - 1.5
    Arkona - 1
    Cryptopsy - 1
    Delain - 2
    Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - 1
    Doro - 0
    DragonForce - 2
    Ektomorf - 0
    Ensiferum - 1.5
    ETECC - 0
    Evergrey - 0.5
    Fatal Smile - 0
Flotsam and Jetsam - 0 (saw 1 full set at the preparty)
    Gotthard - 0
    Heidevolk - 2
    Helloween - 2
Helstar - 0.5 (saw 1 full set at the preparty)
    Holy Grail - 2
    Immolation - 1
    In Flames - 0
    Inquisition - 0
    Kreator - 1.5
    Lacuna Coil - 0
    Lizzy Borden - 0
    Metal Church - 1 (2 half shows)
    Nightmare - 1
    Nile's Drummer - 1
    Onslaught - 1
Rage with Lingua Mortis Orchestra - 2
    Sabaton - 2
    Sinister - 0
    Steel Engraved - 1
    Subway to Sally - 0
    Threat Signal - 0
    Tiamat - 0.5
    Turisas - 2
    Týr - 2
    Unexpect - 2

    38.5/82

That plus the preparty, 2 Vika sets and 1 All Star Jam (saw the full 2 hours) that's like 44.5 hours of metal in 5 days. Cawazy
That's still a lot haha amazingly I didn't miss anyone that I really wanted to see! Wasn't choked about the Evergrey half set because they played nothing from the first 4 albums.

Didn't go to any meet n greets. Didn't get any setlists, picks, or drumsticks. Didn't take any pictures or videos.
Bill was 420 bucks. Sandals + Sunglasses was 50 and I was down like 17 bucks from the Casino, so my alcohol bill was about 350 bucks. But it was definitely the drunkest I've ever been on this ship! Thanks to Charlie Blackfyre for that! (Seriously dude, that was awesome  )

Also saw one Vika set. I don't care about meet and greets, picks, drumsticks, setlists, etc. and don't take any videos (or pictures for that matter). My final bill was under $200 which is what I was hoping it would be to fit into my budget.
I should get around to updating my signature

That makes around 30 sets, not all of these being full sets. Also saw Vika twice and the all star jam once (and I regret missing the first one!!). No setlists, pick, drumsticks and all that either.

My total bill went up to 391$, but there's around 250$ in alcohol for me, the rest was for gifts and shirts.

    3 Inches of Blood - 2

The highlights for me were definitely both Metal Church sets, which were the only two sets I think I saw beginning to end. I saw most of Rage's 2nd set (another highlight) and Lacuna Coil's theater set. I also watched most of Kreators Pool set and chunks of a few others.

I personally think there should be fewer bands (maybe 30-ish?) with a bit of time between to actually be able to see full shows without either running off before the end or missing the beginning (and having shit seats by the time you get there).

I'm not sure who favors the 24/7 non-stop set times, but I found it almost impossible to see many full shows unless I didn't care about the before or after bands AT ALL and didn't mind hanging around for 30 or more minutes or so before the band started.

I could go with fewer bands, but if they are only going to be booking 30 bands, I would want them to all by pretty high quality. Due to different style preferences, I think most people don't mind missing some of the bands, but there are always some that cause a big inner turmoil. I was able to only catch one of your sets for example, and I really wanted to see both since you were doing different material at each. Would also like the bands to finish earlier than 5am to give us more time at the Baleros.

Perhaps they should insist on 40 minute sets in a 45 minute time slot, 55 minute sets in a 60 minute time slot, and 70 minute sets in a 75 minute time slot. The 5 minute cushion would give us time to get to the next set, and not miss any music. Maybe they could expand the cruise another day and start the music at 11:00 AM, and end at 3:00 AM.

    BTW, you guys were amazing.

I actually think it's set up perfectly for me. There's enough variety that everyone should be happy. It's kinda rough for guys like me who like all the variety but it's better now that it's running til 5am because there's less conflicts. Before when it ended at 3 or 4 it was more compact so I was forced to skip the end or beginning of a few sets and wound up missing a lot of bands. The other good thing is Barge and this 70k were run with very very few delays, so that made it easier. Usually there's enough time between sets to have a quick pee and make it for the start of the next band. If there's less bands there's gonna be less variety and less people will be happy as my hombre pointed out above ^

But on 70K one band ended exactly when the "next" band was set to begin in most cases. Literally impossible to see two full sets in a row.

Thanks. The pool deck show kicked my ass. Must have been 150 degrees on stage. My head looked like a big, red tomato when we were done. :D I'm way too old for this (but just standing one spot kinda sucks).

Not if you are REALLY quick on your feet :) Often bands would finish a few minutes early, others would start a few minutes late. So while not always the case, it was often do-able.

By the way mate - had the pleasure of catching some of your second set. Very glad I got to see it, just sad I never got to talk to you! Saw you walking through the Windjammer and was gonna yell out "HEY! ANACRUSISVOX!!!!" but, thought that woulda been kinda weird
