I only listened to one song and it sounded like power metal to me. Are they more of a prog/power thing? Cus that's awesome, I actually like that more!

Edit: Ah, yeah. I'm listening to another song now and it sounds absolutely nothing like power metal  It's actually way more up my alley than I first thought though! Definitely a 2 setter just from the 2 songs I heard! There's still some "weeniefied" melodies in it and heavier riffs so I think this band has something for everyone. Love me some prog power!

Edit 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXmoP76ZXxc this was the first song I heard and to me this sounds like heavy German style power metal, but then https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rising-S ... 8091127385 this is more of a proggy type thing. I'm kinda falling in love with this band! No way I'm gonna miss a set.

So I have bought the Album "Tempest" from Rising Storm. Nice thing.

And I think Orphaned Land would also fit. I've heard some songs and I think it's not bad.

Yes. I'd love to have Shlomit onbroad too.

I also love their peace message (they are not religious) and their efforts to make Muslims, Jews and Christians in the Middle East remember that they are human beings.

I'm very happy about this announcement. I'll check both of OL's sets for sure and maybe both of Raven's and Rising Storm's, depending on the final line-up. I'm also bringing merch to get signed by OL. And my Bachelor's Thesis, which quotes one of their songs...

    70K 2014 SURVIVOR (Cabin 2565)

From Disciples of The Sacred Oath II:

Shall we see the end of war, blood brothers?
Or shall we fill another grave, for ourselves we couldn't save
Weapon of mass obstruction, our hate does blind us all
To the grief of a widow's tears, to the sum of all our fears
    Throughout these blood-red years
    For land, for faith
For that eternal thirst within, that we pray for death to fill
    For revenge, for hate,
For these innocent souls that with their lies they steal
We view this land of destruction,
After the siege that broke through the wall
A trial is held for the guilty, before a court of their pears
"Sentenced to death!" is the sound that they hear
    For war, for death
For the pain bestowed upon those they swore to protect
    For us, for them
For taking our rights and our will to object
Land. Faith. Revenge. Hate. Death. Us.
Them. Fight. Stand. Live. On. We. Must.
Or shall we fill another grave, for ourselves we couldn't save

Better yet, why don't YOU cancel? Nobody's forcing you to go, and if it's so agonizing to you to go on this thing with "all the bullshit" "repeat bands" and "no excitement", then the $300.00 penalty for cancelling would be worth it, am I right? Why not give your spot to someone who WANTS to go? I'm trying to get excited for this trip and some of you are really pissing on the parade here. Stop being a bitch, or cancel your trip.

This. I look back on the past 4 cruises UMC have thrown and remember what a great time it was. 2,000 metalheads fromall around the world, Beer and metal. What more could you ask for. If you do not like the line up, then cancel. It appears some people are bitching and calling bullshit because they are not liking the bands announced. So who exactly twisted their arms and shouted "book it or die" ? It's apparent whose being naughty and whose being nice. It's time to move forward and enjoy 70000 tons of metal.

I guess one shouldn't expect a native English speaker to understand written English. I'll try and make this simple enough for you:
    a) I clearly stated that I'll have fun on the boat.
    b) I clearly stated that this is because of all the friends.
    c) This year's bullshit means UMC's changed business model on treating their customers and, apparently, some of the bands.
    d) Not being excited about something does not mean it is something I definitely want to avoid. I'm excited about meeting my friends, excited to go on a vacation.
    e) This all boils down to this: what makes the cruise an event I want to attend is not the bands but the awesome people. My reason for going is most definitely not the organizer.
    f) On cancelling my trip, unlike you, I'm traveling with friends - who I want to spend the vacation with.
    g) Just in case you still missed my point: I'm going on the cruise, I'm going to have fun, I'm not going bitch on the boat, I will not book again.

And finally, in the spirit of mutual misunderstanding, I really feel bad for you for going on the cruise only because of the bands. You're missing the best part of it by not hanging out with the awesome people. Maybe you should go on some European festival instead? They're cheaper and there are plenty enough to suit almost anyone's taste.

But memoch you state you would like to see the cruise get canceled. That appears to be negative and quite the downer. What is your reasoning by stating this ? Almost 30 days out before we sail. I'm sure everyone will have a great time.

That was taking it a bit too far, admitted. I guess I should've written that I don't care that much if the cruise was cancelled - if we all could spend the week and have fun in Miami. The setting (boat) is unimportant to me, and frankly so are the bands (to some extent) - it's all about the people.

In my very personal case, the bands do play a huge role. If I'm in a bad mood because most of the bands suck (after I've paid my hard-earned money), I won't necessarily be the best company to my friends or anyone else on the boat. Thankfully, the lineup thus far is very good, so it looks like a great time is all but guaranteed. Of course, everyone has different tastes, priorities, interests, etc.

Let's all relax a little bit.

It's Christmas Eve! (Or your heathen holiday of choice).

We had announcements! (And most people liked them)

    We will have more announcements!

We will see each other in a month!

    We will have metal karaoke!

    And Jamming with Waters!

    And the beach parties!

    And Donn's pre-party!

    And the Amon Amarth show!

    And strippers!

I would like to think that Andy did diligent research and found Rising Storm, realized that they were a terrific band, and booked them. As of yesterday around 6:00 I had never heard of them. I listened to a few songs on youtube. They are awesome! Both of their CDs have now been ordered. The discovery of new bands is one of the things that makes this cruise amazing...I just wish these bands would be announced in a more timely fashion.

I somehow doubt it.I checked this band out earlier and have to say they are one of the worst bands i've heard in a long time. It's very bland music designed for target audiences who read stuff like metal hammer magazine. They are playing metalcamp too.I'd say they just have a good manager who knows people. The kind of metal they play doesn't suit with 70k or metalcamp. It's too 'radio friendly'

If that's the kind of stuff that gets played on the radio there, I wanna be where you are.

But yeah how it works from what I know is there's a booking company or a label or something with a list of 'small time bands' and festivals will take bands off the top of the list to fill the spots of however many small time bands they budget for.

Its okay, he was trying to find the perfect words for announcing Speedwolf on the cruise. I truly appreciate how delicate he is trying to be with it to give the announcement the attention that it deserves. Its okay Andy, you take your time sweetheart. Just not too much time. I want it by the end of the week.

Ok... sounds like utopia, but very interesting.
Perhaps a good subject to discuss in the caribbean over a couple of beers...

Oh, I always thought it's more like:
FESTIVAL ORGANIZER:"Hello, Mr. Manager, I want band XY"
MR. MANAGER:"Booking costs Z amount of money"
    FESTIVAL ORGANIZER:" :| "
MR. MANAGER:"It's OK, you can pay 30% less but you have to book one or two unknown bands."
    FESTIVAL ORGANIZER:"It's a deal."
MR. MANAGER light his cigar with $100 bill.
