    Stay away from Nassau

I don't know about any of you but I'd love to see a dozen drunk germans in metal attire trying out a Mermaid Dance Class. Wouldn't mind a tiara and teacup party myself LOL.

    That would be hilarious!

    Awesome idea!

Probably the best candidate for it would be the guy in this video:

Great Song by a great band BTW.
Would not mind seeing them on 70K.

I only used a cab once there before. It was less than $10 from the hotel to the seaport.

Compared to Switzerland taxis in Miami are very cheap for me.
We are 3 so $10 to port is like $ 3,30 per person. Miami downtown to SoBe is $20, so devided by 3 not bad at all.

    Depends where you are from.

Coming from Mexico, taxis in Miami are expensive as fuck.

A taxi from the airport is expensive, however, a taxi to is a flat rate. 20-25 bucks yeah?

Go the share option. Just look for the dudes with long hair and black t-shirts wandering the streets.

No worries, it's my second year of cruising 70,000 tons of metal and I'm so comfortable with how it goes I'm not even worried. Just go with the flow. If you need anything, someone will be able to help you out OR you'll be able to find a solution in Ft. Lauderdale. We're 98% nice people looking to have an amazing time!!!

If I may add to this great list, I'd say if you're not used to walking up 70000 tons of stairs, start getting your legs in shape now. Do some squats or something or your legs will be angry with you.

If you're going from the airport to a hotel or wherever you're staying skip the taxi and get a shuttle bus (Super Shuttle I think?0. It's a lot cheaper max $20 from what I recall and it does drop offs along way.

I've used Go Airport Shuttle out of Ft. Lauderdale before. It was pretty cheap to Miami Beach in the past (under $25) so I imagine it could be even cheaper for points in Ft. Lauderdale. http://goairportshuttle.com/fort_lauderdale_hollywood_international_fll_airport_shuttle

Question for anyone who may be in a similar situation: I live within (relative) driving distance of Ft Lauderdale. It's not exactly what I'd call close, but driving is an option I've been weighing (and it may depend on how current gas prices hold). What is the parking situation at the port like?

I think parking at the port is around $15/day.

We are driving down from Atlanta and will be staying at the Quality Inn Ft. Lauderdale/CruisePort South the night before embarkation. The hotel is right by the interstate in Dania Beach and has a free shuttle to the pier (the way I booked the hotel, anyway) and parking is free at the hotel for up to 7 days, which is plenty long enough for this cruise.
I used the same hotel back in October for a different (non-charter) cruise out of Port Everglades and it worked like a charm.
I probably can't post the website I used to book the stay'n'cruise option here, so email me at pellaz1 -at- comcast -daht- net if you'd like more information.

One of the things that has worked for me year after year is to bring a lanyard.

Step 1: Get your SeaPass card. This is your key to your cabin and your credit card to buy booze and merch. It is your most valuable item during the cruise.
Step 2: Have the front-desk staff punch a small hole in your SeaPass card with a hole-punch.
Step 3: Hang your SeaPass card on your lanyard.
Step 4: Hang your lanyard around your neck. If it is windy, tuck it in your shirt.

Voilà - never go pocket-hunting for your most critical item onbroad.

Credit to my good friend and three time co-passenger, Marcus G. who showed me this trick on the maiden voyage of 2011.

...and if there's a long line at the front desk and the casino is open, the casino staff should be able to punch a hole in your SeaPass card as well. (On Carnival, they'll even provide a stretchy lanyard for free, since stretchy lanyard + SeaPass card = easier to put the card into a slot machine. )

Just occurred to me, make sure you check your card after you order drinks before the waiter walks away and make sure you got the right card back. Happened to me on the last night when it was busy and I lost my 70k design card. Only time I ever lost a card.

So, quick question. I was told that on a cruise if you go to the infirmary with any sort of digestive thing, they lock you in your room and post security at that door to prevent you from leaving for fear of Norovirus.

That concerns me... I mean, I get the reasoning and am not questioning that, but how do they police it? Is it "If you go to the infirmary with vomiting and diarrhea", or are they watching for symptoms? Without going into gory details, I have various digestive issues that might mimic the symptoms, but I take some immodium and drink some ginger ale and deal. And what if one of my roommates comes down with Noro, are we all quarantined? Because those quad rooms are way too tiny for four men to share for long periods of time... not so bad when the only time you're in them is to sleep but being stuck there? That's actually pretty terrifying for me (I don't have claustrophobia, but I can't stand the idea of being trapped somewhere).

The most responsible answer I can give you for that is that if you are really and truly ill with something that could make others horrendously ill then you likely will need the downtime. Most of us can handle ourselves if we come down with a violent illness, but don't hesitate to visit the infirmary if you feel THAT sick. Since you seem to be describing something with only the same symptoms as Norovirus I think you should be okay if that condition acts up and you visit and EXPLAIN it (bring some proof, like your emergency meds, maybe get your doc to write you a note so there is NO confusion just in case?). I had a mild cough when I boarded last year. The tail end of a cold, but by day 2 it was gone. I chose not to say anything about it because it was going away fast.

I, too, would hate to be confined to my cabin. I can only tolerate that many people because I know we're only likely all going to be in that room to sleep together for maybe 3 hours. Everyone is on a different schedule, so a lot of the time when you crash there's maybe one other peep in the room max. I was doing Biphasic (ie. Siesta) sleeps 2x per day and waking up at like 4:30am to go rock some karaoke and get drunk all over again...

    Tips:

    1. Only BLEACH will kill Norovirus. Hand sanitizer won't do it.
    2. Use the hand sanitizer whenever you see it. The dispensers are all over the ship.
    3. Don't be that filthy person. Ie. Jump in the pool, take showers when you need it.
    4. Wash your hands when you get into your cabin. Before you touch yourself or your things.
    5. Bring a ziploc baggie of all your over the counter drugs: painkillers, diarrhea relief, tums, anti-nausea pills, personal meds. You or someone you know will be happy they are there.
    6. Take a little responsibility for sick cabin mates. Bring them food + water if they need it and check on them every few hours if they have a cabin-bound day.

Currently trying to decide between my iPod or my small Canon camera for picture/video taking. Could some veteran cruisers who took similar routes in the past provide tips/advice/opinions? Like, am I going to need a water proof case for whichever one I wind up using?

I brought my Canon Powershot (it's nothing special, maybe a 100$ camera lol?) last year and I used it in the sun/rain/wind... no damages occurred :D. Feel free to check out my shots on my FB (Krystyna Maville - the photos are public to see, but if you're a cruiser I'd love to be friends!) and on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/Mavimusic14/videos . I took some clips on rainy days

I have considered picking up one of those silly waterproof disposable cameras at the airport though... underwater pics have not been done on 70k yet I don't think.

I have the same camera, I think. Or at least the recent upgrade. Sounds good to me then, thanks! And, all right I'll add you up. I'm the one with the same photo as this one :P

Short answer, if you're just dealing with the early vacation/too much booze shits pre-cruise, DON'T mention it while getting abroad. One cruiser last year had to go through hell to get on, having to miss the entire first day in quarantine to prove himself fine.

My reply is based on my first time last year (2014 - Costa Maya).

And I wish I knew that the long lines subtracted 2 hours from the off/onboarding time.

This is not to meet any deadlines but to add about an hour more excursion time.

Being the back of the line (onboarding) is no big deal as long as I could have enjoyed more time on land.

I'll take that into consideration in Jamaica.

Oh and bring a drink or two during the onboarding. Heat and sweating are no good combo for me.

Can't wait! 2 weeks to go!
