    New Royal Caribbean Smoking Policy

    by mooyagi » Mon Sep 09, 2013 9:27 pm

So it looks like Royal Caribbean has updated its smoking policy, effective on all cruises departing after January 1, 2014 (this means us).

This particular paragraph is of interest:

Onboard all interior public spaces are smoke free. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, bar, lounge, hallway, elevator, and jogging track.

The exception is for the Casino, which allows smoking but will also have a special nonsmoking area as well.

That is a big change from previous cruises, when smoking was allowed in the bars and lounges.

I'm actually quite happy to hear this for you dear, I know how badly you are always affected by it especially in Boleros. Bonus: Now you can't blow me off for a karaoke duet with the excuse of "its too smoky in there". YOU'RE MINE NOW. NO EXCUSES AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Not too big of a deal, Boleros is right by the deck and the Casino is where I usually go when hopping to and from the Chorus line and Spectrum anyways. Also, will encourage me to smoke less. Hey guys, I might still have my voice by Day 2 this year! lol

I try my best to be respectful and not subject people to it the best I can, regardless of how drunk I am. Also a large contributing reason why I probably come across as A.D.D. as hell on the ship as I'll try to find somewhere away from people that don't smoke, to smoke. I always feel bad when it can't be avoided like in the Boleros lounge. Just think, you might be able to hear my accent this year!

As a nonsmoker, this definitely makes me very happy to see. Now the Boleros Lounge will be bearable. The Spectrum Lounge would also get too smoky as the day went on making the shows there less enjoyable. I like this change because some people had been really inconsiderate with the smoking rules as they were. I have also seen too many people putting cigarette butts and ashes out on the floor and have seen cigarette burns in the Chorus Line seats (I think the Chorus Line was nonsmoking to begin with...), which is not cool. Now it's just a matter of whether or not the RC crew will actually enforce this one.

I do understand that this can be a pain for those who do enjoy smoking. I'm surprised they don't dedicate one of the other lounges, either the Schooner Bar or Viking Crown Lounge (especially since cigars are sold in the Viking Crown), to smokers so they can have a place to sit inside and relax. That seems like it would be fair.

    mooyagi,
    thanks for your consideration...
As a smoker I assure you the pain is mild or none at all. We smokers are used to smoke outdoors mainly. I don't smoke at home since ages but go to the garden or balcony.
During cruises my favourite places were: in a corner above the pool stage, next to the bar, where I met a lot of fantastic cruises & bands having a smoke. I also smoked sometime in Bolero during the day on my way to Chorus but only if Andy or B. were there - just to chat. I hate rooms full of smoke. Never lighted a cigarette in Chorus or Spectrum.
There is no need for us, smokers to enjoy a cigarette indoors. After all, we sail through the warm Caribbean climate. It's nice to relax with sea in view

and BTW - there are nice, small personal ashtrays that fit in any pocket. I use it when travelling :smoking:

Great news, although I smoke when I drink, meaning the entire cruise. Fewer cigarettes for me and I don't mind stepping outdoors to fill my lungs with poisonous smoke.

Seriously, I used to date this girl who smoked A LOT. And I loved how my hands smelled of cigarettes for hours after seeing her...

My parents used to smoke when I was a kid, so maybe it's a weird brain association.

I'm a nonsmoker but the smoke really dosen't bother me on the days of the cruise, I don't take this as a good new for me 'cause I prefer 1000 times the smell of smoke than hundreds of people's sweat and acid alcoholic breath .. (that's the smell on gigs here in mexico since smoking was prohibited on interiors) :?

As a former smoker this is good news. I quit five years ago but for some reason I smoked on the last two cruises. It looks like I won't have terrible breath and smelly clothes this time around.

Hmmm, not the biggest news ever. Everyone I work with smokes heavily, honestly I get looked at like I have SARS for not smoking, but if it means more folks partying late night then I'm game.
    Now let's go get banjaxxed.

    Doesn't bother me either way.

My wife however, she hates the smoke.

In 2012 she was happy when there was a smoke free Spectrum lounge. (later in the cruise). And a happy wife means I get laid more.

Also, I'd like to know whether UMC is going to update the FAQ on the smoking policy. Seems the onbroad information still lists the old policy on smoking.

At least in the spectrum lounge, it should be the artists discretion. I however, think its better in there without the smoke. Izmzo

Too lazy to look for it but I believe that Andy posted at some point a long time ago that the smoking policy is determined by the cruise line.
