Now that is quite a legitimate reason for bands announcements and one reason I love about MDF. Sure, they announce tons of obscure bands, but at least we get 200+ days to check them out, purchase releases and get familiarized with possible set lists which adds to the overall enjoyment of the event. Last year 2013, was tough to get into some sets with all the last minute announcements. If Nightmare was announced a few months in advanced I would have gladly bought some CDs and enjoyed their set considerably more, because whatever they were playing was pretty awesome. Holding back announcements hurts the fest...but of course all you guys on here already know that.
Dude you are totally preaching to the converted here with me.
I can use the 2011 cruise as the perfect example.
Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Tyr, Sabaton, Ensiferum, Korpiklaani. All bands I wasn't too familiar with - hadn't even heard of Tyr and Sabaton prior to them being added. Had months to check them out as they were all added months before sailing, so I bought heaps of cds online from them. And now, pretty much own every CD from most of them!
Fast forward to 2013. If I had a few months notice, I would have bought cds from Steel Engraved, Knightmare, Fatal Smile, Lizzy Borden.... But not when they were added days before the cruise.
And to be brutally honest, after the cruise the motivation just not there to check them out - as I never saw a single set from Steel, Fatal and Lizzy I am even less likely to buy cds from them as I'm afraid I'll regret having missed seeing them!!!
