Things I learned on the cruise:

1. People with the giant 2 litre ziploc bags full of drugs (tums, Tylenol, gravol, etc.) know what they are doing and if you didn't bring that shit, friend them and buy them a drink, because at some point during the trip hopefully they can return the favor.

2. The sticky floor tape (Metal-head fly tape) in the indoor lounges is a good thing, when that boat starts to rock you hardly move.

3. Canadians inherently control one of the hot tubs, specifically the one to the right of the stage. We are a party and a half to be with so try and make it in.

4. When at said destination you need to haggle like a boss to get what you want. That means literally slashing the price down by over half.

5. If you pass out, you WILL at some point have embarrassing pictures posted on Facebook for everyone to see.

6. Everyone shoots for the pizza the first day, walk around the corner and grab a sandwich and soup you will not regret it.

7. Make time for the sit down dinner. Not only will your body thank you, but its a great way to meet new people and enjoy what is undeniably the better food on the ship.

8. When you start buying drinks make sure you tip the bartender the first couple times, and go to that bartender only. At some point if they are good they will buy you a drink for the loyalty.

9. If you are not tipping, cross out the tip line and write in the total line the final price, otherwise some idiot will fill that in for you. It's not cool seeing you paid a ridiculous amount of money for 1 drink.

10. Go sing karaoke, if you can sing, pick anything. If you can't, just pick an Irish drinking song and watch the whole place sing with you. Get there early to get a seat.

As another cruise virgin broken in by booze and metal and sitting in Vegas missing my new metal friends I gotta say, there is some damned good wisdom here. Had heard stories about how amazing this cruise was, but nothing could have prepared me for how friendly, inclusive and fun this was. Also, haggling was not a skill I possessed before but got a poncho for less than a quarter of the price, so... Fuck yeah. Booking as soon as I get home.

I learned on this cruise to bring some food to supplement what is available. As a vegetarian, there was virtually nothing but cheese and bread in some form and terrible salads to eat. I could not find people in the Windjammer to tell me whether or not cooked items were vegetarian. I cannot even imagine what a vegan would do on this ship.

Johnny Rockets has the best food on the ship. They also have a 2 for 1 happy hour between 7:00-10:00pm. The cover charge was definitely worth it.

That was where I ended up eating quite a few times. Veggie burger was the only non-greasy source of protein I found on the ship for a vegetarian.

well, the Asian corner at Windjammer had plenty of vegetarian soya dishes & man serving there knew all about them.
Also formal restaurant had vegetarian dishes on the menu.

Fourth cruise so far for me and I finally found my way to:
a) the deli; the quesadillas were a lot better than the pizza
b) fine dining lunch (a lot better than Windjammer)
c) Johnny Rockets (ok, if you want a burger, but nothing special - not really worth the cover fee IMO)
d) The coffee place on, umm, fourth deck (a lot better than the liquid they serve as coffee elsewhere)

If you like more booze than mixer in your drink, tip a bit extra and they'll remember you. You might even get a free drink (it seems I'm missing at least a couple of rounds of GTs on my itinerary).

5th timer and this is the first time I made the mistake of drinking WAY too much on night one. So even if you think you can drink a lot, pace yourself. For the first couple days at least.

I learnt from the Tuesday that a dozen GTs and 17 (rough estimate) strawberry daiquiris will get you drunk.

We learned that it´s good to aim for one certain bartender, befriend this said person and then teach him how to make the drinks more... "swedish". A few tips and you were down to 8 pina coladas to get a nice buzz instead of 16. I used this for the entire cruise, else my tab would have been incredibly high, and I still ended up just short of 500 bucks. Sometimes it sucks having to drink booze in litres.

Haha... we bought many drinks there to, and she had to run and get a bottle of Beefeaters to accomodate our needs.

She found us a bottle of Tanqueray No. Ten on Thursday, but only charged for the regular version.
And the main reason (other than her) to get my GTs from that bar was that they had lemon slices. No lime in my GTS!

Ahh... you´re right. It didn´t occur to me before, but that´s probably why we enjoyed those GT-s more than others. Lemon is the way to go!

Lesson learned on 2014 cruise.. 5x cruiser and first night ate that shitty completely greasy, most VILE excuse for pizza and Eric and I both had horrible indigestion and acid reflux until Tuesday morning. Johnny rockets rules. The chili was great as was the grilled chicken bacon and ranch salad. Oh and apple pie ala mode and hot fudge sundaes are way killer. So glad there is a rockets on Liberty of the Seas ! The compass deli has always been my favorite. Will miss that little place.

In 2012 I tried their coffee once, but never had I tasted such awful coffee I couldn't finish it. And I love coffee. Hopefully the coffee onbroad Liberty is better.

Yea we had a pretty bad experience at JR this year. It was our first year going there and doubt wed go back. There must have been a total newb on the grill and a bunch of people that "called out" or something because they seemed very short staffed. The grill had a STACK of cooked burgers on the left side that were just sitting there. It also took absolutely forever to get our food. We saw them bringing food out a lot but never figured out where it was going because everyone at the bartop and tables behind us didnt have food haha. On top of that by the time we got our food the ship was moving quite a bit and I couldnt finish the burger. My stomach pussed out on me and was like "Nah, youre not hungry anymore"

The Windjammer had better food this year and not that triple-salted crap they had the year before. But the main dining room's lunch wasn't that impressive.
And I loved the Deli's picadillo quesadillas.

I thought the food onbroad was pretty decent overall. I moved around a lot and consumed liquid breakfast on a few very early mornings in Boleros, so maybe I missed out on the worst places at the worst times? Not too sure. The Windjammer was alright, I mixed some salads for myself the first and second days, but I picked at the fruit, burgers, pastas, Asian foods etc by the end. I went to Johnny Rocket's once and that was pretty good. It was for my cabin mate on that really rough day at sea - she couldn't leave but wanted fries and they hadn't come with rm service so off I went. I even managed to get the guy working there to go and get us some fruit from the (closed) windjammer. They were really nice to me and I don't even think I got charged the cover to get my fries and fruit to go! I left a tip for them.

I was never sick on the whole cruise. I guess you could say my tab was a little high... I won decent money at the casino though, so that helped alleviate the guilt hahha.

Room service eventually did try to come but my roomie was just trying to sleep so it was an irritation more than anything :( I felt bad, rm service even sent us vanilla cupcakes to apologize... we got over it, I guess

I ate very erratically, so it's not like I had every meal somewhere. Maybe that would change my attitude a little, but no big complaints this year!

Oh! I did have breakfast in the fancy place once after our other cabinmate kicked us out of the cabin early on (I won the blanket war 1st night apparently !!! ). I loved it! The food was certainly a notch above the normal stuff and we didn't find it too badly overpriced.... though it was expensive, the portion was good enough!

I remember on my first time (70k 2012) living off that terrible pizza. Why would anyone eat that pizza when the Compass Deli is constantly open!? Much better food such as wraps and hot soup. Much more nourishing than shitty pizza.
