    Some Swiss Bands

    by Dundee » Mon Sep 29, 2014 11:02 pm

Our skipper is Swiss and in the past, we had a Swiss band every year (exepct the first one). Would be nice to meet some countrymen.

Gotthard (I know, it's not real metal but great Hard Rock and they've been on the cruise before)
Krokus (maybe unlikely as the do the MOR-Cruise)
    Contorsion (thrash à la Testament)
Coroner (a repeat and the best Swiss band ever)
    Emerald (great epic heavy metal)
Pertness (fantastic band in the vein of old Blind Guardian)
Drifter (great thrash but not sure if they're still active)
The Order (traditional hard rock in the vein of EARLY Gotthard)
    Sin Starlett (trad. Heavy Metal)

Even if I hate thrash, I'd be happy if Petrol Patrol was playing on the boat. Only because they're awesome dudes. And they're Swiss.

Uh oh...we might have to brawl this one out over on the boat, Brian. As far as tech thrash is concerned I don't think anything beats Coroner. This is a repeat that I know many people would really dig.

Dude, when I got into Eluveitie, it certainly had no fucking thing to do with my vage and everything to do with Celtic shit, folk, history, metal music, etc. Comparing them to Nightwish is also super gross. If Nightwish is a band for girls, then I need a sex change STAT. There's very few of those clean-vocals female lead bands that I actually like.

Eluveitie and Triptykon would by my two wishes, but fuck, the guy in Triptykon already shit-talked Eluveitie. Maybe not two bands that should be in the same (literal) boat! I'm seeing Triptykon at MDF already, anyway, unless they pull out or something.
Top Picks: Allegaeon, Angelus Apatrida, Arkona, At the Gates, Chthonic, Devin Townsend, Down, Eluveitie, Enabler, Ex Mortus, Exodus, Eyehategod, Finntroll, Havok, Hypocrisy, Iced Earth, Ihsahn, Kreator, Nervosa, Nylithia, Rotting Christ, Sabaton, Sodom

I just realized no-one has mentioned Bölzer yet, which is kinda strange seeing the hype surrounding them at the moment.
While they are good, I'm not too fond of the idea of them being booked for 70k. I just saw them at Kill Town Death Fest, and they weren't too impressive live. I'll see them again at Eindhoven Metal Meeting in December; maybe they're better then.

There are quite a lot of great Swiss bands, but they are probably not a lot known in the whole world.

More in the hard rock, there are:

    Krokus
Sideburn (even if they not sing a lot outside Switzerland, one of their songs is in the movie 'Wolverine' that came out in 2013 and also in the serie '24' :headbanger: )
    Sahara Rain
    Skansis

    Metal:

    Dreamshade (Melodic Death)
    Shakra (Metal)
    Gonoreas (Heavy metal)
    Abinchova (Folk death)
    Excelsis (Folk)
    Elferya (Symphonic)
    Dysrider (Symphonic death)

For the bands I remember as they are a lot more :wank:

While they are good, I'm not too fond of the idea of them being booked for 70k. I just saw them at Kill Town Death Fest, and they weren't too impressive live. I'll see them again at Eindhoven Metal Meeting in December; maybe they're better then.

i'll be at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting too. Gonna check them out there.

The last time we had Poltergeist, so how's about GURD this time? They have a fantastic new album out.

I would love to see Krokus on board too, but as they are doing the Monsters of Rock cruise in April 2015, not sure they will be on our cruise
