This. They want people to book in the summer without knowing the lineup, so they throw in some curveballs at the end.

Plus, with cabin sales really strong right off the bat this year, they were probably able to spend more on talent later on than they initially budgeted for.
I'm only here to do two things: play the bagpipes and gargle sulphuric acid. Looks like we're almost out of acid.

Very true. I get the impression that we're getting a lot more big-name bands in the final 20 this year than we have in previous years, so it wouldn't surprise me if this was at least partially because they were able to afford more of them.

I've seen a lot of bands say they're going to do something "soon", and despite any hopes I've had, it was never a clue about 70K.

I think that is the main reason, they is no way to tell how well sales will go in the beginning. So he budgeted what he can and if they is money to spend at the end he picks up some bigger acts. The big thing now is merch and alcohol sales,a happy boat buys more I imagine.Plus it sells next years cruise.

Is Angra a "big name" band? I like to think I'm pretty well informed on metal in general, but I've never even heard of them.

Maybe I've just missed them because power metal just really isn't my thing.

Yes. The number of Last.fm listeners is always a good tool for getting a sense of such things. As a frame of reference, Testament has about 500K listeners, Gojira 355K, Angra 260K.

LOL. If you're not a power metal fan, Angra's not the band to win you over anyway.

I've actually been trying to give power metal a fair shake. I loved Gloryhammer's last album, thought Twilight Force was fun last year, and even grabbed a Serenity album after they were announced. I find that it's very much a "small doses" genre for me. The cheesiness turns me off pretty quickly.

For the 'E' band, I predict Ex Deo, simply because that's the only band with Edenbridge to have a new album out in February, according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_in_heavy_metal_music#Albums_expected

We are less than 3 weeks away from Round 7 of 70000TONS OF METAL! The Original, The World's Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise will sail from Florida to Labadee onbroad the Independence of the Seas, leaving from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale near Miami, FL on Thursday, February 2nd 2017 and returning on Monday, February 6th.

Relax and recharge or take advantage of an array of water sports and activities, including the famous Dragon’s Breath Zip Line (the world’s longest zip line over water).

Book one of the artist escorted Shore Excursions and you could enjoy your day in Labadee alongside members of DEVILDRIVER, TROLLFEST, DEATH ANGEL and OMNIUM GATHERUM!

    Andy could make a contest:

give all the remaining letter (bands first letter) on the right position on the bands map/logo. The survivor with more hits would win an excursion for free!

Having done all cruises in the past part from last year, not sure the online check in has ever happened while I was still in Sweden, at least not in good time ahead. Some times a few days ahead.

Could be wrong of course, but I wouldn't expect this to hit the mail box for anyone in a while yet.

Last year, they were sent on January 15, 20 days before sailing. We are already past that point.

I think that we'll get the check-in emails on Monday. :D

By the way, compared to 2015, I'm impressed we only have 8 announcements left. I did a rough count, 19 left at this point for 2015 and 15 for 2016.

This is my least favorite line-up so far (compared to the last two years since I've been going, not of all time), but I would think I'll enjoy some of the next 8 left. I'm hoping. Edenbridge and Angra are definitely not my speed. I will give Angra one more shot based on someone's recommendation, though. I do like some prog, just not 99% of power metal.

The zip line and mountain coaster thingy look like a lot of fun but holy hell are they expensive. Prices for anyone interested.

Yeah. $104 for an hour and 15 minutes, of which, probably 3 minutes is the actual zip lining. Ouch!

I can't see the prices following the link, but 105$ for a zip line

Unfortunately not, he's only playing for Megadeth.
Last August both bands were touring here in Brazil and Angra opened for Megadeth in Brasília. Kiko was there, seeing his own band with another guy (Marcelo Barbosa on lead guitars).
The only original member is Rafael Bittencourt... and that makes me sad 'cause I was there when the band released their first 3 albums (Angels Cry, Holy Land and Fireworks) and I will always miss those magnificent guys.
Still like the band, still see them live... but it's basically another band.

Could it be Exodus? It would fit with the old school thrash theme.

As much as I would like it to be Electric Wizard I don't think we will get any sludge/stoner/doom bands. There haven't been any on the previous cruises. However - I'd be great if they could add at least one from that genre.

As cool as the water park and zipline sound, for what they'll cost with the exchange rate and how fucked up I'll be by then, I'll take a day on the beach instead. It just sounds like fun.

The RC website has the prices listed in CAD. The zipline is $140, as much as Andrea and I want to do this I am almost thinking it might not be worth it for the hour and a half you're up there. Although this might be a once in a lifetime experience (who knows if or when we would ever come back to Labadee).
