Very nice announcement. One more band I have wanted to see in quite some time, but never have. Perfect!

About air travel: We have flown into the US from Switzerland on Saturday, no issue at all.

Oh and my on board entertainment system on the aircraft (Aer Lingus A330) had Krisiun as an option. I was a bit surprised about that.

Ha, that 's pretty cool. My flight's entertainment system had a nonworking headphone jack. :bitch: Glad I loaded up my ipod with some netflix material ahead of time.

Has anyone suggested Belzebubs, they have an album due in April I believe and would be great if it could be debuted on the boat.

That'd be interesting. I'm pretty sure the vocalist/bassist from Insomnium is "in" that band.. and i don't think they have any tour dates setup yet?

Really happy to see Tyr added, especially this late in the game.

Lots of great possibilities for "B" too. Borknagar would top my list there.

What the hell is with making an "Arrival Appointment"? And why is the earliest one 11:30? RC should know by now, people will be lining up at 8am wanting to get on the boat.
I got a chuckle out of that. I guess Royal is now following in Carnival's footsteps, as they adopted the concept well over a year ago. In Carnival's case, unless you have Priority boarding, you aren't even allowed inside the terminal before your requested arrival time, and they allocate the time-slots first-come, first-served and block slots out after they fill up.
Amazingly enough, it seems to have worked pretty well for Carnival.
I don't think Royal is enforcing theirs, though. I'll be a little upset if we have to wait until 11:30 to set foot inside the terminal.

I'm just wondering why we can't print luggage tags yet.

Because most people are getting bounced from their hotels by 11 anyway, and once you're on board you have access to free food and socially acceptable drinking.

I showed up to port maybe around 1 last year, the wait wasn't terrible and we got on board with plenty of time to eat and drink and hang with Corpsegrinder in the casino. Probably will be arriving the same time this year since I am on the 12pm bus out of Miami. Anybody else on board the 12pm? Myself and about 5 other friends are booked for it

I mean, pretty much exactly that. While last year I was in the middle of prepping for a celiac test (you have symptoms of gluten intolerance so they make you eat bread four times a day, it's fucking brutal), this year I can't eat much in a conventional North American breakfast. So Windjammer is going to be my first real meal that day. That, and I always have an enjoyable time hanging out with friends in the lobby.

Off topic, but you should stab your medical provider. That's like diagnosing a stroke with a sledgehammer. That's -not- how celiac disease is supposed to be diagnosed.

I've been to the port as early as 9:30 and as late as noon. Getting there early just means you get to sit around doing nothing for 2 hours or more, not 'socially acceptable drinking and early breakfast'. The people who get to the port at 11-noon are only a few minutes later in boarding than the rest, but they didn't sit around doing nothing the whole time in a field of uncomfortable chairs.

Not exactly: https://celiac.org/about-celiac-disease ... screening/ Going through the gluten challenge is the more accurate way of testing for it, is my understanding.

On topic, sitting around and reading a book would be what I'd be doing anyway - may as well do it with people I like around, rather than a bunch of native Floridians who think I look strange wearing all black *shrug*

12 days to go. 9 (or maybe 10?) bands to go. How does this compare to previous years? Could be better, could be (MUCH!) worse.
Best situation we've ever been in was the 2017 cruise when there were only two bands to announce at this point.

Worst was 2015 when we were still waiting for 19 BANDS. Almost a third of the lineup unknown to us with less than 2 weeks to go. That was beyond a joke.

Full breakdown of bands to announce with under 2 weeks to go from previous sailings:
2018 we had another 8 from this point
2017 we only had 2 to go
    2016 we had 15
    2015 we had 19
    2014 we had 10
    2013 we had 7
2012 we had 7 more to come
2011 we had 3 to go

Andy doesn't have to prove you wrong - I can!
Burning Witches will be in Spain performing as support for Grave Digger during the cruise, so no chance of them being next.
spoil my taunt - was trying to get an announcement - now Andy gets to hold off longer  :beerhorns:

I'll be in Miami in one week!

Ummm, Andy? You know we're sailing really soon, right? How about a few more bands? We're not quite at 60.

So we're just a few hours from hitting the "as many bands left to announce as days to go" mark. Thank you Andy once again for giving so much time to prepare ourselves and listen to the bands we're not familiar with beforehand.

This is one of many reasons I think some veterans are bailing. It's really fucking annoying that they have thousands of our dollars and can't even announce the lineup in a reasonable time. The bands have to be booked many months in advance. Bigger bands tour, smaller bands have jobs and they all have to make their travel plans. I really don't get the holding on to the announcement thing at all when it's sold out? Maybe one band at the end for a surprise, but not 9 or 10 bands with 10 days to go.

This is our third time (2015, 2017) and the delayed band announcements are one of the reasons I didn't book 2016 and 2018. We go to see the bands number one. When we give them over $3500 and they can't have the courtesy to announce the lineup it's just bullshit in my eyes. We will enjoy ourselves and it will all be forgotten after the first band starts playing on the cruise, but it makes the decision to re-book the following year harder. Especially with more and more cruises popping up. We are doing Megacruise later in the year, so 70000tons in 2020 is doubtful already.

Actually a good portion of bands don't know they're doing the cruise until we do.

Diamond Head in 2016 for example were contacted about a week before the cruise.

And of course, the less said about Dead Cross the better, but the garbage article one of their members wrote about 70k definitely indicated they didn't know anything about it until a few days ahead of time.

I wonder if any interviewer has ever asked the question of the skipper "Why, when you have 12 months between cruises, do you often leave booking 10+ bands to the final days/weeks?"
