But 20 days out is great ,I think this might be a notion of defeat for selling more cabins.I imagine sending the information to Royal Caribbean before Christmas was another motivation,2 holidays in the next 20 days ,then crew probably goes to Florida right after new year. The cruise falling early in the year is probably turning into a nightmare now for 70k crew.

Probably not as close as it appears,I think a whole section (Promenade) got the axe because it doesn’t sell well.Maybe bands getting extra rooms etc.

    Outside of that
    Next Tuesday Christmas Eve
Then the Next Tuesday New Year’s Eve
Then the next Tuesday First Day of Cruise
You lose maybe 4-5 business days depending on the people you are dealing with and still lots to do outside of bands.Time is so crunched down at least they got a 20 day start.

I wonder how Aaron Copeland (who writes the band notes for the 70K Bands app) and Martin Parets (who curates 13 songs per band for the Spotify playlist) will react when they get dumped 24 mostly unknown bands within a week.
    Table throw.gif?
Also, there is no official Youtube playlist, for the first time.

3 years isn't enough to be bitter about this, I guess. I prefer the cruise as just a chance to experience something different, meet new people and then all the bands on top of that. Except for a few bands here and there that I would really like to see, that's not really the driving force for me. Mostly just like being on the ship. Cruises are fun with lots of stuff to do. Just a small town of like-minded people all having (hopefully) a good time.

2015 we had a long silence because a band or two had to drop out, yes? And I think we did again when GOJIRA and SOMEONE ELSE (Nile?) had to bail. Maybe something happened with a band and Andy is trying to work it out before he comes back with announcements again?

Not a good strategy, IMO, but one he tends to default to.

Or maybe they've just accepted that they've completely jumped the shark this year, and now they're going to see what happens. I predict good bands to come, there's no doubt in my mind. But I'm guessing that most of them will be announced after it's too late to book a cabin.
I'm only here to do two things: play the bagpipes and gargle sulphuric acid. Looks like we're almost out of acid.

I’m just really hoping these delays don’t manifest themselves when the schedule is announced. It has been good for me to have the schedule 2 to 3 days before sail.

This lets me get everything entered into the app, and gives everyone a chance to download the schedule to their phones. This is especially true for international travelers who may not have a cell plan, and are relying on hotel Wi-Fi.

If we don’t get the schedule until the morning we board the ship, or worse yet until we’re actually on the ship and are handed the program, I am going to have to really scramble to get the schedule in the app at all, and people may not have a chance to download it even then.

Here is hoping that things are much closer to being on track then we realize.

Regardless of the douchy attitude from Justin Pearson towards us sailors, Dead Cross is a cool band with Mike Patton on vocals. Can't wait for the sophomore album

    My latest sure-to-be-wrong prediction!

Either one of two things will happen.

We will get an announcement or two sometime over the next three days. Completely underwhelming, not worth the wait, announced over the weekend in the hope that it will be buried and go relatively unnoticed.

OR we get an announcement Monday/Tuesday. A (relatively) big announcement, worth the wait, as an xmas present to us all from the skipper.

In the same way Andy calmed the crowd with EMPEROR and DEVIN TOWNSEND, there are two (2), and only two, crowd-pleasing bands in the last 24.
The first one will be announced on December 24th, the second one on January 5th.
Half of us will hate half of them, while the other half will love the other half.

“The crowd is a large group of people that are gathered or considered together. A crowd may be definable through a common purpose or set of emotions, such as at a political rally, a sports event, or during looting (this is known as a psychological crowd), or may simply be made up of many people going about their business in a busy area. The term "the crowd" may sometimes refer to the lower orders of people in general.”

Here's my working theory right now.

We all know that there have always been a handful of last-minute adds. We've heard it from enough bands to know that's standard procedure. I'm guessing that Andy probably has about 10 more bands right now that are "confirmed", but is scrambling like hell to somehow find the rest. It's a perfect storm with the cruise being right after the holidays, the massively more expensive flight and travel costs (40-50% higher for most of us), the logistics challenges (getting everything shipped and coordinated while people are out for holiday), the shorter than usual notice (the cruise being a month sooner), and communication breakdowns due to whatever health issues he's got going on. Bands that would normally jump on the opportunity are passing. As a result, he's simply not able to find bands to fill those last few spots, when that has been a far less difficult process in past years. I'm guessing they're holding off announcements until more bands are in place, and simply aren't able to find any.

TL:DR: I'd be shocked if there wasn't still a big chunk of the roster that hasn't been confirmed yet, and they don't want to start announcements again until they are.

What you are saying overall does make sense , but there is nothing new here , Andy knew all these details a year ago !!!!!!, it sounds like he should have started much sooner ! , following your thought process . The unknown variable would be his health , but you would think there is a reliable inner circle that picks up the slack to address all faucets of this business after running these for 10 years, if he has medical concerns that might be getting addressed . as they say, THE SHOW MUST GO ON !!!!!!!!!!!! There should have been a courtesy disclosure explaining at least partially what was going on , about 2 months ago , that would have been appropriate !

no other festival scrambles to find bands in the last week. this guy does it and it's worked in the past. the thing about this year is one week before sailing is new years day, and a week before that is christmas day. this cruise is early, you can't ask (out of country) bands a week before if they can come play this thing.
