I know who the next band is for a fact... Blackgaurd

by Metal Heart » Mon Sep 27, 2010 12:45 pm

I was at nevermore last night and they had a poster promoting the event. Blackgaurd who was opening was on the poster. I asked them if they had announced it. They said it was announced today (yesterday)

If that's the case, then those guys jumped the gun, as there's been no announcement concerning them (or any other band) since the Nevermore/Sanctuary one.

I didn't know of Blackguard at all before I saw them with Ensiferum and Ex Deo in November 2009 - they are a GREAT live band. My friend and I enjoyed them a lot. I saw them a second time open for Epica last February. If indeed they are coming on the cruise, I approve.

I hadn't heard of them until I saw Epica in Canada earlier this year. They are fairly good and I enjoyed them more than Threat Signal. They're also very friendly guys (and girl). Would be great to see them again.

However if it is true and they have been confirmed but not announced, it would be a shame for it to hinder their spot on the line-up if they were promoting it without prior announcement here.

No it wouldn't, we wouldn't be wasting one of the final 10 spots.

But it probably won't hinder anything since Forbidden announced themselves many months before it was officially confirmed. I just want the final 10 to be all killer and no filler.

A quick perusal of their Myspace page and these guys need to lay off the keyboards a bit if you are gonna call yourselves a metal band.

Penguin approved!! I love keyboards in my metal but more and more it seems to be to the EXCLUSION of the guitar. Just seems blasphemous and more like trying to sneak synthpop stylings into metal by having a faint chug-chug-chug guitar mixed in beneath the wash and swells of keyboards.

For those of you that say Blackguard is too folky, they're actually not - they're REALLY thrashy live and actually put on a really good show. Their recorded stuff doesn't sound that great but I've actually really enjoyed them live twice (both times they were booked as a replacement  ) While I wouldn't pick them as a top choice for the last 10, I'll take em :beerwink:

Well said Daenerys I'm not a fan of the recorded but they have a lot of energy on stage, they are a great openner. I wouldnt want all 10 of the last bands to be my favourite bands anyways I wouldn't have time to do anything else.

I didn't include Blackguard in my "wish list top 10", but I really can't think of 10 bands I'd want to see more than them (I just assumed, because of this thread, they were all-but-on the ship).

They're absolutely fantastic and I hope this is true.

Of course I'd rather have Guardian, but as someone said already they're quite thrashy live, and very friendly...and Canadian!!! I can live with this.

As someone has said above, their recorded sound does not do them justice and the keyboards are much more prominent on their album than they are on stage. They are worth seeing live that's for sure, but I agree and am hoping for some of the best bands to be announced last.

I'm not much of a fan of their music but the show is entertaining. I've seen them probably 10 times by accident (as an opener) and was never really disappointed. The music isn't very interesting, but they make up for it with the energy in their performance.

Still crossing my fingers for Carach Angren...... :shred:

There's only one folkmetal band that's worth listening to and that's Falconer. But they probably never would show up as long as their singer is doing his cabaret thing or whatever he's doing.

I'm thinking MH did us all a favour by stealing their thunder and letting the cat outta the bag here on the boards before the official announcement...

Allison: Hey Andy, did you see that new thread about Blackguard this morning?
Andy: Yes! It doesn't sound like the forum crew are very excited about the whole idea does it?
    Allison: No, not at all.
    Andy: Hmmm...
Allison: You thinking what I'm thinking?
Andy: Well, they DID recently lose their keyboard player...
    Allison: Breach of contract!!!
