I partied last year with some Swedes who looked to have rented a condo or something. Is anyone planning on renting a big suite this year? If so, I'm speaking on behalf of two Canadians who want in when I say "we want in". Otherwise, back to the south beach hostels I suppose. Better than sleeping in the airport chapel like last year.

i don't recommend waiting, b-bud. most hotels don't even make you pay upfront so there is no harm in reserving now. MANY places are getting booked up already.

Hm.... I think Orbitz charges right away but I'll look into it, thanks!

orbitz doesn't but expedia does....and anyway it's better to just go through the hotel directly most times.

Just read some tripadvisor ratings...is it really a rundown and dirty hotel? Are there better places to stay in Miami?

Stayed there one night before the previous cruise. It was clean and very nice. Cool view of the city.

Also stayed at the Homewood Suites by Miami Airport (Homewood Suites Blue Lagoon). That was really, really nice. Very clean, it was a suite so there was a separate living room and full kitchen. Convenient to the airport (with the rail line extension it's easy to get downtown too) and had a great free breakfast.

Holiday inn had a free buffet--they renoed the bar/restaraunt area--it's very nice and open.
I hate buffet, so I had a regualr breakfast that ShoreSlayer paid for!! :headbanger:

I can't eat unlimited scrambled mush and cold sauasges for $15.

I prefer a regualr breakfast that I 'd rather pay for.

Then, about an hour later.....FIRST BEERS ON THE SHIP!!!!

I made the same mistake in year 1. Our hotel was across the street from a diner in Miami Beach. We had breakfast there (pretty decent too) and then got on the ship and realized the buffet was open. D'oh!

I tried to book for two nights (I will arrive Saturday morning) and was no availability at this hotel. I checked and although there are still rooms on Sunday night, Saturday is sold out. Also noted that price went up from 166+taxes to 190+taxes in one year.
I searched a little and found for $203+taxes (just $13 more) a room at the Hampton Inn & Suites Miami/Brickell-Downtown which is about 1km south of the H.I. port of miami, but much better hotel (ranked #1 hotel in miami according to tripadvisor while the HI port of miami is #65!). I booked at www.hotels.com which also gives 1 night free each 10 nights booked, so is like 10% off.

My cabin is booked and also my room at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami for 3 nights, since the Friday 25th January. I'll book my flight in October, actually it's too expensive  To book a flight in the Summer time is really too expensive, it's better to book after, in the Autumn.

Well, I also have to do a new passport as mine has expires

Now that I've booked before and after, I can share a nugget of wisdom:

The south beach hostels are great. They're entirely full of cruisers...this one is particular offers free food, and some free beer. Cheap as dirt, too...Holiday Inn is too expensive for my blood.

There are beer stores beside, and it's beside the beach.

I stayed at that hostel one night. Not bad but it was extremely loud at night. They were doing some sort of limo trip to all the clubs for people who are into that crap.
I should get around to updating my signature

I stayed at South Beach Hostel last year and that wasn't a problem. There was one group of girls there clearly not going on the cruise, and they were really weirded out by the crowd there...there was only the noise of drunken metalheads.
