Any previous cruise goers have some clue as to how much we should take on board ( no merch money ) to stay comfortable including soda package, etc etc. Maybe a list of things that maybe someone who has never been on a cruise wouldn't know to bring?? this would be a great help

Well, you don't need any cash, everything on the ship is paid using your on-bard ship ID/ room key which you will receive when checking in. You settle your bill on the last day either using cash or just having the charges applied to your credit card. That includes ANYTHING you would buy on the ship. As to an actual number, I would say you will need somewhere between $100 and $3000 depending on how much you drink.

The only place you'd need cash is if you get off the boat in Mexico so you can buy tequila, sombreros and hookers if you are so inclined..

Other than that just pack like you are taking a beach vacation and for the sake of your fellow cruisers don't forget the toothpaste and deodorant.

Thats what scares me! how many times have you been wasted and decided it was a good idea to buy drinks for everyone you ! NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT BILL!!

Craigs right on the money! We do bring some cash for like extra tipping (when you want milk and cookies at 3am) and extras off the ship in Mexico. For the most part we have always used the key they give us. Its pretty easy. However you might want to keep track .. the bill can be scary in the end! We spent over $800 on one cruise....scary how fast it can add up!!!

American Express, from what I have seen is actually not accepted as widely as most other credit cards. I think they charge larger fees to the vendors to process payments through them. I don't know if things have changed recently, but that's what I've seen.

I'm gonna try to tough it out. I've never been on a cruise before, and never been so far out in water that I couldn't see land but I also get these wicked cases of vertigo every once in a while... like when getting out of an elevator, or looking down or out of windows in tall buildings... so hopefully I'm not puking every day.

My grandparents go on cruises yearly and reccomended 'scopolamine' for sea-sickness. It a little patch you put behind your ear and it lasts a few days. It's over the counter so no prescription needed (in Canada at least). It says don't take with alcohol but I'm gonna look online for possible side effects. (noo! Not my booze!) I'm gonna get some as a precaution... Hope this helps!

What about bringing Aspirin, Dramamine, Rolaids and other over-the-counter medications? Will they let us bring stuff like that in case we feel a little rough or do they send us to the ship's doctor? Or are they going to take everything that is not clothes or cameras from us when we board?

What about chewing gum or candy?

No worries on OTC meds, just take them in their original packaging in your checked bags. DO NOT take any little mystery tabs in unmarked bottles, that might raise some security eyebrows...

I like to chew gum at shows, so I don't tend to drink as much to wet my whistle. I hope they allow me to bring that, too. If I don't, I'll drink WAY too much, will result in being too wasted to remember this epic event, not to mention a big credit card bill. Ugh...

Gum/candy will be no problem. They are really only worried about alcohol coming aboard since that is one of the big money makers for the cruise line, well that and illicit drugs which are a serious no-no of course. Don't stress the security/contraband warnings too much, things like that are always strongly worded just so the cruise company butts are covered in the case that they do have deny boarding to some belligerent dumb-ass. you will see things are very relaxed during boarding.

the cruise lines are there to make money man and bottled water is another big money maker for them. Sucks for sure, but it is what it is. My advice, buy the water/soda package if you require a lot of non-alcoholic fluids.

haha lurker... no, there is plenty of water available from dispensers, they do charge for bottled water though. I would be hesitant to drink the ship's water although it is supposedly super-purified.

You can buy bottles of booze in Mexico.. They only allow so many threw customs. We bought 3 bottles one year with no problems....:)
