I think their selection is limited by what is available in karaoke format.

While its not too hard for an audio engineer to create a pseudo karaoke using phase inversions I doubt that the karaoke person is willing to invest the time required for this.

I mean there are so few "true" karaoke versions and you would want a nice selection so its a bit of an undertaking.

I'm not familiar with phase inversions, but am assuming it's a method of reducing/eliminating the vocal track of a song?

Most karaoke tracks are entirely re-recorded versions the songs which has to be done due to copyright reasons. It's time consuming and costly and that is the reason why you don't really get metal karaoke, there isn't really the market to make it worth paying someone to record it.

Usually vocals, bass, and kick drum (and snare, often times) are the only things panned to the dead center, so reversing the phase of either the left or right channel will cancel out everything that is identical on both sides (bass, kick, vocals, snare). EQing before phase reversal can allow you to keep most of the kickand bass, since they are on the opposite end of the frequency spectrum from the vocals. It's not perfect, but you can get decent results.

Here is what it sounds like on an Immortal song. You can still hear some of the reverb.

These are the Finnish metal karaoke series that are available here in most karaoke bars. It was a huge thing a couple of years back but seems to have quieted down a bit, luckily.

Yeah we get that alot of us can regurgitate a cat unto the microphone and call it extreme vocals, but really who cares? And i can't think of anything more boring than a karoke version of Punish My Heaven or Christians to the Lions.

I recall 2 plastered Australians trying to growl Highway to Hell on broad, people go to hell for less. Rachel and I were mortified.

I'm a believer in that you pick the silliest and most UN METAL songs you can for karaoke. It makes it funnier and more enjoyable. Plus if I'm listening to metal for 4 days, I want some kind of change of pace.

So bring on the Billy Ocean, Pointer Sisters, Glorida Gaynor and Journey songs :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger:

    Agreed.

After a dozen or so pina coladas my "coconut rum induced brain rot" (as Anika so eloquently puts it  ) makes it possible that I might go sing some karaoke. Chances are slim to none, but existent nonetheless.
