I might be the only one not in a metal shirt, ha! I actually don't have very many. I don't like the weight of most metal shirts :( (that sounds rather funny). At least more tours are starting to sell tanktops! Perhaps I'll have a collection some day.
I have a few, but I tend to wear dresses on the cruise. I'm on vacation, why not?

I'll find mine from 2 years ago and measure, but in the mean time it was approx. 4 inches height x 7 inches wide, non-sticky back, we used safety pins to attach for those.

It was sticky back. I have it stuck to something at home. We just attached it with safety pins to take it home after the boat.

I have such a love-hate with dresses. Most of the damn things don't have pockets but they're so cute and comfy. However sometimes they get in the way or require extra thought so as not to flash people >.>

Imagine band t-shirts in dress form! Ooh!

    Wow, awesome, thanks!

As for the cost....heck, you can sell any unclaimed ones after the meet'n'greet. Judging from the reactions I got just wearing one the first day, you'll have no trouble finding buyers.

(But seriously, I'd have no problem with tossing some extra dollars your way or buying ya a drink at the handy nearby Schooner Bar. :shots: )

I love dresses too but seriously I love my metal t-shirts more... My suitcase is a sea of black and it's so easy and quick to get ready and that's one thing I have found out about 70k cruises.. I jumped from band and band with little time in between to even grab a bite to eat I don't have no time to fuss with clothes

Question for the newbies: do you know where the Schooner Bar is located in the boat?

It's not a bad question for experienced Survivors either, since it can get confusing. As we know from 70K, there are 74.6 "bars on board that NEVER close. Yes, you heard right, BARS THAT NEVER CLOSE!" (Except when they do. )

Plus, the boat has been remodeled. I'm pretty sure the Schooner Bar wasn't messed with (since, y'know, Royal makes money there) but I pulled up the New and Improved deck plans to double-check my memory.

As I expected, the Schooner Bar on the Indy is on Deck 4 forward, between the Casino and the main theater.
It's across from Izumi, the new Asian teppanyaki place. Don't be lured into walking in there to eat unless you want to spend some bucks; there IS a cover charge and it isn't cheap: $45-49. (Therion made that mistake with the Italian place a few years ago: they were invited inside by welcoming employees, with no mention of the cover charge, and...surprise! )

That is a great heads-up on the cost of the sushi bar and a great reminder for those of us that it's been on quite a few cruises where the schooner bar is.... I'd like to reiterate to those that are doing the pre drunken mess meet and greet that it will begin around 2:30 in the afternoon and we will have name tags available for those that desire one

Most of them. Johnny Rockets is only like, five bucks, and at the ice cream place you pay 3-5 bucks for your fix. Windjammer, The Cafe on the promenade, and Sorrento's are free and casual. The fancy dining room is also free, but dining hours are usually during primetime so it's hard to get served.

How many of the restaurants are like that?

Johnny Rockets is now substantially more than $5. I think it's now a $10 or so cover charge, but (according to CruiseCritic posts) it DOES now include a milkshake if you want one. It didn't, before. Really makes me miss the free (and awesome) Guy Fieri's Burgers on Carnival.

Izumi IS a "teppanyaki" place, so you sit at a table for 8 around a flat grill and the grill-guy cooks your food and does a show in front of you (think "exploding onion volcanoes" and food being flipped around). Places like that are usually high-priced, but I've paid less for teppanyaki places on land. You'd kinda expect the price aboard ship to be less than shore-side since you're already paying to get on board, but the pricing seems to work for Royal and their usual clientele. Even their steakhouse prices are high compared to other lines.

Giovanni's Table, the Italian place in the Windjammer that Therion got snookered into eating at, is at least $25 per person* for dinner...which is the same or more than the usual price at a decent land Italian place. It's at least $15 for lunch, which makes me wince again since Carnival's Italian place offers a free pasta bar for lunch and it's never crowded.

    --
I say "at least" because Royal employs dynamic pricing ship to ship and cruise to cruise. It could be as high as $32.99 per person for dinner

That last post sent me scurrying around online to see if I could find some recent info about dining on the Indy.

    I found out that:

Johnny Rockets is probably $6.95 or $7.95, and it includes sodas but not milkshakes. There's a lot of variance on this; one ship has a la carte pricing and some now charge $9.99.

The new Sports Bar has bar food, but prices are a bit high. Quoting from CruiseCritic's review: "Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade (Deck 4); a la carte: Added during the 2018 refit, this sports bar and arcade occupies a large space on Deck 4 next to the Casino. Primarily a bar, it also offers classic sports bar food such as burgers ($9), sliders ($3 each), wings ($8 for a dozen), nachos ($7), loaded potato skins ($6) and popcorn shrimp ($7) to wash all those beers down. For dessert you can find a warm chocolate chip cookie served with Nutella, melted marshmallow and a side of milk shooters ($6)."
Maybe an option for food if you feel like spending some money and don't want to go to the top of the ship to eat.

From the same source: "Fish & Ships (Deck 11; a la carte): This opened to much fanfare in the 2018 refit, to cater to British tastes, offering what the line calls a "quintessentially British seaside menu" of classics such as fish 'n' chips, battered sausage and chip (fries) buttys (sandwiches), plus a few extras such as calamari. While we liked the casual nature of the eatery, we found the prices (most items are $9 for not big portions) steep, which would have been fine if the food was any good, but it's not; we found it over-fried, dry and tasteless."

Ooops. That might have been nice.

Regarding the main Dining Room, this caught my eye. Did they have a lunch buffet during 70K? Did anyone notice?
"At lunch, there is a buffet setup in Romeo and Juliet for the midday meal, but only on sea days. It features a make-your-own-salad bar and a wonderful antipasti selection for those who want light fare. It's a terrific choice if you want a quick lunch in the quiet and elegant atmosphere of the dining room, and it's one of the better lunchtime offerings for vegetarians."

CruiseCritic only gave the Independence a 3 out of 5 for dining even AFTER the refit and new places to eat, and said this: "Overall, the quality of dining was at best variable, with free dining really not coming up to a decent standard in the main dining rooms and Windjammer Marketplace. However, the quality of the food and service levels in the specialty restaurants, in particular Chops Grille and Izumi, is generally high and it's worth a splurge at one if you're on a seven-night cruise."

I will never have time to eat in any place other than the Windjammer. My schedule will probably be very busy, so Sorrento's or the sandwiches will have to do at times. As long as I have booze and carbs, I will survive

Oh yeah, I know that most of the restaurants have a cover charge, was just wondering if there were any more as high as the one we were talking about (45-50 dollars).

It looks like Izumi and the Chops Steakhouse are right there in the $40+ range. The Italian place, Giovanni's Table, is a bit less, but with Royal's dynamic pricing it could be close to $40.
If they were smart, they'd consider the clientele on 70K and "dynamically" price those places lower. Getting SOME business, even at a lower price-point, is better than virtually no business at all.

Both Johnny Rockets and Fish'n'Chips ARE much less than $40, but they're not particularly cheap as cruise line specialty restaurants go and apparently not particularly good, either. I'll be reminiscing about Guy's Burger or BBQ, or a fresh-made burrito, or Mongolian stir-fry...all of which are "free" (included with fare) on Carnival cruise ships so equipped.

Oooh, want. Definitely wish we had those.

I have had Johnny Rockets, I wonder how the one on the ship compares to the one in, say, the mall here. It's nothing special but never been bad either, but at captive audience price-point I can see why people would dislike it haha.

I've had the JR stuff... I didn't think it was worth it. I wouldn't say no to another fancy dinner but I stick to the Windjammer, the Café, and occasionally I'll have a Ben & Jerrys.

What's your favorite snack from the Cafe?
Speaking of the Cafe, I find it odd that it is not shown at the Deck 5 plans. I hope they didn't close it! :bitch:

Yeah, I was worried about that too. Apparently it's still there though. I hope so, because I don't have many other options late at night.

As for my favourite snack, it's whatever sandwich has the stuff I can eat on it. I can't eat onions, so simple meats and veggies are what I usually go with. I remember the veggie, the ham, and the roast beef being pretty good. I shouldn't even be eating that much gluten, but I make do. It's better than nothing, or the pizza.

I mean, if your insides don't mind onion and low quality pizza, go for it. I have a finicky stomach so eating the pizza will make me have a bad night, which is no bueno when you're trying to marathon bands.

You must try it, then make your own opinion about it. Some people love to hate it, but I have learned to like it. A can of Foster's and two pizza slices are the ultimate metalhead surviving meal at 2am when you're drunk and hungry af

Oh I'll for sure try it.

Shitty pizza when drunk is usually great. And maybe I'll like it.

    Especially cold, eaten for breakfast.

I can't argue with you on that one. A girlfriend was saying exactly the same thing

Yep, Promenade Café is still there. On a "normal" cruise it is the ONLY eatery that is open 24 hours, but for 70K I think Royal keeps Sorrento's open 24 hours just for us. Experts differ as to whether that's a blessing or a curse.
In all honesty, it's...adequate...pizza. If you're drunk or exhausted (or both) at 3am, it will be the most wondrous, most glorious pizza you've ever had. :D

At the Café, the little sandwiches are decent...unfortunately they ARE little. I really miss those cheesecake-on-a-stick treats they had a few years ago, but they haven't been seen the last few years.

Also remember for late-night that the Windjammer and Johnny Rockets were both open much later than their normal non-70K hours, so don't dismiss that possibility out of hand. I remember being disappointed last year when we found the Windjammer closed between 5 pm and 7 pm (SERIOUSLY?!) but then the flipside was that it was open until at least 3 am for us. Not sure if that was on every night, but it was definitely open that late at least one night...and it was good. Except the hamburgers; those were still terrible. :P

This seriously SUCKED. I absolutely complained about that on my survey. Thank fuck for the café. The trick with the sandwiches being small (they weren't that bad for me but maybe I don't eat much) was to have one as a snack, two or three for anything more substantial. They don't care, just ask for as many as you want. Motherfuckers. Close the food buffet right before primetime why don't you...
