They're WAY too big. They've been around forever and played stadiums and stuff--

Round X is going to be an absolute spectacle and we can't wait to set sail on January 7th. We're just watching the clock "T"ick away...
What are you talking about? You mean the 4 (maybe 5, depending on what the hell Archon Angel is) soft-ish metal bands we have so far? Because by my count we have 10 (almost 50%) bands that are black, death, or heavy enough folk to be confused (I'm looking at you, Wintersun). We need more power metal on board right now.LoudStonedDrunk wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 2:07 pmAndy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 7:50 am We've got the fire... and you Sailors may be KISSIN' DYNAMITE come January! This cruise is, always has been, always will be, about diversity.
If you want brutal, all brutal and nothing else - go to Maryland Deathfest.
You want a cruise where you will get power metal, symphonic metal, black metal, death metal, old metal, melodeath metal, is-it-really-even-metal metal, then you've come to the right place.
As it stands we are tracking towards a fairly 'typical' 70k lineup but a little light on genres at both ends the scale. Not much Thrash, Death, or Power in comparison to previous years so I expect those style announcements to pick up a bit.
SO MUCH THIS!metalforever wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 4:03 pm Diversity means embracing all the different types of metal to include Christian Metal !!!!!!!!!!
Antestor
Place of SKULLS
Doominicus
Impending Doom
Living Sacrifice
I can list many other similar bands , so with the blatant exclusion of a whole genre of music , 70000 does NOT embrace true DIVERSITY !!!
The only girly fans I know on broad are Razor Ramon and the Statsman, and I strongly dislike glam metal, so I'm not sure what rock you're living under.LoudStonedDrunk wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 2:07 pm Id say we satisfied the women with all these corset symphonic and soft metal bands.

I wouldn't lump folk/power/symphonic into one category. Not only because there are zero power metal bands there at the moment so it glosses over that, but also I can imagine a lot of people that like Epica and Leaves' Eyes, could care less about Cruachan and Trollfest.
Also your 'heavy metal' you have Venom (surely black?) and KD (hard rock at best).
Curious as to where you got these categorisations from. A source, or just your own opinions?
My general classification, plus some metal archives help. I did not want to have too many subgenres (for instance, one can add melodeath, technical death, atmospheric black, even Lovecraftian funeral doom ), but yeah i know what you mean. It is ok. Yeah I never said that the band were not authentic - I blame their record label for trying to market them as "white metal".ShoreSlayer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 2:18 am ....
While I can't speak for what their label did or didn't do in terms of early marketing, the lyrics on every single album have had at least some degree of pro-biblical jesus leanings, just delivered with killer Black Sabbath meets priest/maiden style screaming guitar duo abandon.
...
ramble ramble... my point is I think their christian leanings were quite authentic and in no way shape or form contrived or a marketing ploy. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Bruce's religious leanings and Eric's were a big part of their early chemistry and their parting company years later was at least partly due to them no longer being quite as firmly on the same (bible) page as they once had been.
...
I mean, Moonsorrow is considered to be in the ‘big 5’ of Finnish folk metal, so I would prob place them there. Although they do have a heavy black metal influence in their sound.Ethrivas wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 12:14 am Well, current genre-breakdown (of course open to debate) is:

is this chart available to everyone that has the app? I'm guessing not, but it's kinda neat.bodomdragon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 3:12 am Here's an update on the popularity of the announcements as per the submissions in the 70K Unofficial app:
I will try to keep sending updates if you guys are interested. Also, some new charts *might* come... SOON.
I hate labeling a band by where they're from. I mean, folk metal is huge in Finland, so people think every popular band that comes from there is just folk metal...well, unless it's something like Behexen. For instance, Pearl Jam was labeled as grunge just because they're from Seattle. By that rule, then queensryche is grunge, lol.
You lost me... i don't see where anyone decided they were folk metal specifically because they were from Finland. When compiling a list of the 'big 5' of Finnish folk metal, they didn't just pick the first 5 bands that happened to be from that country.cholernik wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 6:07 amI hate labeling a band by where they're from.
