That means we know for sure that the following dates for the Independence are ruled out:

Jan 16 to Jan 24 - Jazz Music cruise charter
Jan 30 to Feb 04 - Christian music cruise charter
Rock Legends is Feb 18 to Feb 22 on the Indy in 2021.

That also means the sailings immediately before and after those dates are not available. Royal Caribbean will not do back-to-back music charters.

Didn’t we have one of the classic rock cruises just after us one year?
Where did you hear that? Any explanation? (Honestly curious)

Yeah mbob would love to know if you have more information on that because I too have heard that (and it may have just been via a previous post of yours), but I would love to know if you know any further details.

Because if this is indeed the case, it would rule the INDY out for a Superb Owl weekend cruise next year (as the Bowl is on the 7th, so a Superbowl sunday 70K would have to be Feb 4-8). AND if this IS the case, it could explain why no word on boat or dates yet!

@Godflesh - I looked at past cruise calendars and couldn't find any instance of a music charter leaving immediately after 70K.

But does that mean they will not do back to back charters, or that they just haven't yet? where's the proof that they won't do it?

@Godflesh - I looked at past cruise calendars and couldn't find any instance of a music charter leaving immediately after 70K.
I have been following Carnival and Royal Caribbean for a long time, my family loves to cruise. While I have never received confirmation from someone in the know I have never seen a cruise line offer back-to-back large scale music cruises.

It would be a logistical nightmare for the cruise line to be unloading all of that gear from 1 music cruise while attempting to load the gear for another and be able to depart on time. Plus, the crew needs to rest and the ship needs to be cleaned.

While I guess they could do back-to-back if they wanted to I have never seen it done.

Here is Indy's schedule for Jan & Feb 2021...

    Jan 2 - Jan 7: 5 Night Cruise, no 70K
Jan 7 - Jan 11: 4 Night Cruise, RCCL is selling cabins for this date, though they will cancel if the boat gets chartered.
    Jan 11 - Jan 16: 5 Night Cruise, no 70K
Jan 16 - Jan 24: 8 Night Cruise, The SuperCruise XIV
    Jan 25 - Jan 30: 5 Night Cruise, no 70K
Jan 30 - Feb 4: 4 Night Cruise, KLOVE Christian Music Cruise

Feb 4 - Feb 8: 4 Night Cruise, RCCL is selling cabins for this date, though they will cancel if the boat gets chartered.
Feb 8 - Feb 13: 5 Night Cruise, this cruise is not listed on their schedule so it has most likely been chartered. I am guessing this might be Monsters of Rock though can't confirm that.
    Feb 13 - Feb 18: 5 Night Cruise, no 70K
Feb 18 - Feb 22: 4 Night Cruise, Rock Legends
    Feb 22 - Feb 27: 5 Night Cruise, no 70K
    Feb 27 - Mar 4: 5 Night Cruise, no 70K

Based on the fact 70K is a 4 night cruise there are only 2 open dates, Jan 7 & Feb 4; however, Feb 4 is right after another music cruise with the possibility of one following it so that date is unlikely.

I know you would prefer to have "official" confirmation but my logic is pretty sound based on history.

None of the other ships offer 4 day cruises (according to Cruise Planner), although occasionally they split a 7 day cruise into 4 and 3, so technically it’s possible.
It looks like Andy has no choice but January 7-11 again, unless he manages to negotiate with RCI to accommodate him on another ship.

I think it is not in Andy's interest to go to a smaller boat. In any case, a bigger one

The Liberty is sailing out of Galveston, Texas so that would be really convenient for me! Unfortunately she is scheduled for dry dock from early January through the end of March.

I don't see Andy moving the cruise away from Fort Lauderdale/Miami since so many bands, as well as passengers, come from Europe and Miami is a hub for international travel.

    Appreciate the detailed answer mbob!

Your logic is solid. I agree that it would be a logistical NIGHTMARE to go from one music cruise docking in the morning to another one loading that same day.

I'm thinking they are moving to a different cruise line. It might explain some of the bad experiences people had with Royal Caribbean this year. If RC knew 70000 wasn't coming back they may not have put as much effort as previous years. Just a thought...

I was on Indy on next cruise after 70k. At least two music charters back to back where pool deck has a stage would be a logistics nightmare, I agree. Pool stage equipment were still being unloaded at 4pm and departure time was 4:30pm. Departure happened about 45mins late.

I don't know what issues people had with RC crew, but at least the ones of RC crew I talked with were excited after 70k. When our group of All Access tour was waiting for permission to go to bridge, some people were talking to RC security "the previous cruise must have been exhausting to you". The security guy said something like "Quite the opposite. It was very easy cruise for us, everyone was like a gentleman" and then he showed people the videos he had recorded during the 70k. I was quite a funny moment. Based on that I'd say RC crew didn't widely know if 70k will be on other cruise line next time.

Your logic is solid. I agree that it would be a logistical NIGHTMARE to go from one music cruise docking in the morning to another one loading that same day.
I can't imagine there'd be enough space on the pier for the outgoing charter's equipment to be offloaded at the same time as the incoming charter's equipment is loaded. With just one huge crane, or would they try to use two?

Nahhh. Unless the same production company was being used for both charters and the equipment was being shared between both, I can't see two full-boat charters happening consecutively.

I'm thinking it'll be the Indy, and it will be on January 7th. Which is okay with me, but I know others out there will be unhappy.

We'll probably get THAT announcement sometime in July.

So its the 7th of Feb here in Australia so we could be as little as 11 months from sailing?!

I guess that is good news - although it will mean flights will be freaking expensive for me again :(

Even if sailing is somehow managed for Superb Owl weekend though we would be less than 12 months from sailing though so that's a brightside :D

Yes Liberty and Freedom are Indy's sister ships, but I don't think the cruise will relocate anywhere from Ft. Lauderdale/Miami and I don't think RCCL will relocate a ship from elsewhere to Florida just for our cruise. As mentioned, Liberty sails from Galveston, Texas and Freedom from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Also I don't think we'll change the cruise line.

So the options are those ships that are already sailing from either Port Everglades/Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. Based on the RCCL cruise search there are quite many ships sailing from South Florida:
From Miami: Empress, Explorer, Navigator, Allure & Symphony,
From Port Everglades: Indy, Odyssey, Oasis & Vision

Vision and Empress are smaller than old Majesty. Explorer and Navigator between Majesty and Indy. So I guess that means that at least Vision and Empress are out of question and I don't think a ship smaller than Indy would be good either, so Explorer and Navigator out too. Allure, Symphony, Oasis and Odyssey (entering into service in Fall 2020) are much larger. Oasis class has an outdoor theater stage in the back, but the pool deck is not that good because it's open several decks down in the middle. So with the pool deck stage being so important thing for our cruise, I don't think those ships would be good. Odyssey looks better pool deck -wise, but RCCL won't charter the Oasis or Quantum class ships for cruises shorter than 7 nights as far as I know.

http://www.nedcruise.info/allure%20of%20the%20seas.htm <- Allure, Oasis and Symphony don't have a large pool deck because the deck is open in the middle
    https://www.wheninmanila.com/spectrum-o ... rnational/ <- Odyssey's pool deck looks better.

Andy has said previously in interviews something along the lines of "there are plenty of other oceans" to sail or something like that.

So relocation is not out of the question.....

    Heya

After reading all your bits ^ and thinking my own thoughts, that there is zero dates and no boat (yet) tells me
they are working on something different.
If that's a whole other port or State?
    Key West?
    Galveston?
    Sth Carolina?
    LA?
    New Orleans?
    Tampa?
    .
But the Skip said Jamaica. So how many boats leave the States for Jamaica NOT from Miami/FFL?
Or maybe no longer with RC.
    hmm.....

Either way, I won't be back onbroad for 2021 regardless.
2022 will be 10yrs since my first cruise so a bunch of us are re-uniting for it.
It's be exciting to see some confirmations and details.
Will the ship sail in March?
    Or across NYE period?

IF I was the Skipper, I would make it a 5 night cruise! ha ha
And a new island/destination not sailed to before.

Feb 8 - Feb 13 has now been confirmed for Monsters of Rock 21 so that date is officially out which means the Feb 4 date is out as well.

    January 7 is available!
If Andy goes with that date again, he will make a lot of people angry
Me included! I don't want to be shafted by such expensive flights again :(

On the brightside, maybe fears about the coronavirus will have a medium to long term impact on demand for international travel, driving down prices?
I have a feeling the dates have not been announced yet because it will be sailing later in the year. Makes no sense not to announce the date if it is January 7. Per the Royal Caribbean site... "Charter pricing will generally be most attractive in non-peak season such as September, October, early December and/or January and will be most expensive from May through August."

The Independence is the best RC ship for this cruise moving forward. Andy likes having the largest pool deck stage at sea. If you look at RC's larger ships their layout would not allow a stage as large as the one they use now.

Now, other than Carnival, I am not familiar with the other cruise line ships so I don't know if there is a comparable one out there; however, it seems like a lot of the large music charters started with other cruise lines (or smaller boats) and ended up on the Independence. That has happened for a reason and that is why the date selection for Andy has now become a problem. Everyone wants this boat! As far as I know noone is chartering any boat larger than the Indy for large scale music cruises.

And unfortunately both Indy's sister ships, Freedom and Liberty, are ruled out.

After dry-dock this year starting "March 8, 2020, the reimagined Freedom will sail 7-night, roundtrip Southern Caribbean cruises from San Juan. The year-round itineraries are set to visit tropical locales in the region, including Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curacao; Castries, Saint Lucia; Bridgetown, Barbados; Saint Johns, Antigua; and Kralendijk, Bonaire. " (source: https://www.royalcaribbeanpresscenter.c ... -the-seas/)

And as noted previously, Liberty is scheduled for dry dock early 2021, and sails out of Texas anyway.

LOL, as if anything 70K and Andy does more than two weeks before embark day makes ANY sense whatsoever....

Carnival's bigger ships (which are smaller compared to the Indy) don't really have a suitable pool-deck area, since it is terraced. A pity, since otherwise I'd much prefer Carnival to Royal. I've got cruises booked on the Valor in 2020 and on the Mardi Gras in 2021.

I'm not familiar with Norwegian's big ships and their layouts, but if Royal actually let THIS charter slip off their hook, they are fools indeed.

would be good if MORC and 70k were organised by one agency. everything could stay on board...
i told andy a few times to sell the brand 70k to a professional agency....

70K out of Texas would be awesome! :deathhorns: Would never happen though. Shiprocked did sail out of Galveston in 2019 but doesn't have the international draw that 70K has.

The problem is Andy has a single cruise operation. A lot of these other music cruises are put on by companies that host multiple charter cruises throughout the year which means they might have more pull with the cruise lines.

Another situation where some open communication would be nice.

Why not just come out and say - "Hey! Doesn't look like we can get the Indy for superbowl weekend, or at all during our normal time frames, looking into other options"

Hell the hive-mind that is 70k fans would then probably come up with some ideas that the Skipper hasn't even thought of considering.
