    Oil Spill

    by MTMetalHead » Sun May 30, 2010 3:17 pm

Just wondering if the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will be any problem. Even though sailing through a black sea would be pretty metal... I'd rather not.

Has been talked about and discussed in other threads. Miami is on the east coast, not the Gulf, so shouldn't be an issue.

yes it would be nice if they'd clean it up... but so far they can't even STOP IT. And its so cute how they call it a spill. This is not a spill. Its more like a SPEW and its still SPEWING full force. Totally Horrifying. And while Miami is on the west side of Florida it is not impossible to think that the entire gulf out towards cuba and cozumel where we will be can eventually be affected.

Let's just hope they don't try to match the pressure completely by pumping down drilling mud and cause a down-hole blowout.
The effects of that would be wayyyyyyy worse..

haha I'm sure some people could figure it out!

    For anyone who was confused:
Oil coming out ---> put mud in ---> too much pressure ---> hole go boom ---> bad baad baaaaaad bad bad :D

plus, 3 people is better results than grimmy82 got. I think only she understood what she was talking about

    Oil spill affecting cruise?

    by PoisonElixir » Wed Jun 16, 2010 8:59 pm

Just wondering if anyone is concerned about the BP oil spill affecting the cruise. I've been keeping an eye on it and as I watch the oil slick get picked up by the currents everyday I get a little more worried. Not just about the possibility of canceling the cruise but the possibility of canceling um... the ocean! Even though the ship doesn't set sail for another 7 months I wonder if UM Cruises actually has someone watching the oil path. I called 70000 tons on it and they assured me everything is status quo. What do you think?

Also I hope I'm not the one who throws a cigarette butt in the water and is responsible for setting the whole gulf of Mexico on fire o.O

Both the cruise line Royal Caribbean as well as ourselves are watching that issue very closely.

It is highly unlikely that the oil spill will affect our cruise. In a worst case scenario we would sail a different route.

Yup, that's what they told me when I PM'd the guys of the Cruise. It wont get cancelled, but if things get worse, we'll take another route. People just can't stop Cruises that go through there. It's a loss of business, and the US Government can't afford that.

After the ship I wanted so bad to go to Key West, swim with dolphins, do some snorking or diving to see LIVING coral not dead coral, but with this oil dump I´m thinking about going to somewhere else. :?

At least we´ll feel like sailing on the black sea or black ocean...

Well, BP has the means and technology to fix it. With recent regulations from the government it is quite hard for then to apply it..
