Jagr to Philly for a year

    Ben Eager to the Oilers

    Theodore to the Panthers

Canucks lose Torres to the Coyotes (not a huge blow but a role guy who was effective when he stayed on the right side of the line - crossed it too often though)

Canucks so far have re-signed Bieksa, Salo, Higgins, Lapierre and Alberts.

Ehrhoff's rights went to NY and then Buffalo he signed with them for ten years for 40 million! Good for him but glad he's gone due to some downsides in his game and the fact that we have lots of young and upcoming D talent that we can ice for much cheaper.
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

Hanging out at Vancouver airport. Only got a few dirty looks for my Bruins Stanley Cup Champions shirt :D A flight attendant wished me luck as I was getting off the plane and a customs guard gave me the ol stinkeye and "You know, people don't like that shirt out here" For shame Vancouver. I want to make a scene. Where are the rioters?

Canadians are relatively nice, usually. I'd probably get jumped if I wore a Dallas Mavericks championship shirt in Miami before or after the cruise.

Canadians are extremely nice. It's kinda scary. You would probably be fine in Miami with a Mavs shirt. They're all bandwagoners who don't give a fuck about their sports teams unless they are winning, and even then....well, you saw how terrible the crowds were during the Finals. They just don't have a rabid fan base down there.

It seems no one mentioned Paul Kariya retired for good altough I don't think he played any games last season due to concussion.

I did see that my favorite player Ed Belfour made the Hockey Hall of Fame this year. (Yes, I know he was silly, hated, and a bad drunk. That's what made him fun!)

My sister's favorite player Joe Nieuwendyk is also in this year, along with Doug Gilmour and Mark Howe. Nice crop this year. Trying to figure out if I can make it to the ceremony.

Must be getting close to winter.. I'm watching the World Juniors Semi-Final game between the US and Canada from this past January(what a great month!)
The tournament is in Western New York State--but about 90% of the crowd is Canadian--Molson built a beer garden doe people who couldn't get tix :belly:

Best part is, al ot of Americans were less then pleased with the influx of hockeyfans from Canada
"They come down here and drink in our bars and shop and eat in our restaurants--they're everywhere" was a quote I loved.
In an area that is economically struggling, they are mad that we spent a ton of $$$$$$..

So tragic. All but one player and one crewman dead and that player has burns over 90% of his body. Looking at the roster, a couple of recognizable names jump out at me, especially Pavol Demitra.

Finally some good news in the hockey world! Bruins came to an agreement with Brad Marchand on a 2 year $5mil deal. Good deal for the club if he continues to make progress in his development and especially if he pops off in the playoffs again. I'm sure he wanted more money and years (at least his agent did) but the team did a good job not making a huge commitment to him based on only one year's worth of effort.

    Time for training camps!

It's hardly an indication of how they'll perform in the big game but I was impressed with the Preds rookie tournament, especially Craig Smith bagging 6 goals in two games. This guys definitely one to watch in the future. The GM even asked if he'd be interested in leaving school early (currently at U of Wisconsin).

Congrats to Mike Modano on a stellar career. All time points leader for US Born players and Stars icon. I'm sure EvilDan can give a proper writeup of the man and player, given that he is a big Stars fan and I assume has watched Modano closely throughout his career.

So was very briefly shitting bricks this evening as Rinne comes off the ice with blood pissing from his forehead and I'm thinking "Don't get hurt in a pre-season game FFS!". 12 stiches later he's back on the bench so doesn't look like it'll affect him starting. Preds mopped up the Jets tonight with 4 2nd period goals (4-3 final), wasn't pretty but win none the less. First live hockey game for me this season, bring it on!!!

    Who's ready for some hockey!!!!??????

Bruins begin their title defense tonight. Given how difficult it is to repeat and that I doubt Timmy Thomas can pull another otherworldly season out, I don't think they will be successful. I hope I'm wrong! Obviously, with the core of the team still intact and I'm really liking the Joe Corvo pickup, I think they'll be in the mix. It's just too damn tough to repeat as champions. Beating Philly in the opener will be a good start.

    Go Bruins!

I'll be at the Blue Jackets home opener tomorrow night against Nashville (more like Trashville, amirite?). High expectations with the addition of Jeff Carter on the #1 line with Nash.

So who's looking good this year other than Boston? The only Canadian team to make playoffs this year will be Vancouver. Pittsburg doesn't have crosby back, Washington always choke. Who else is any good? Detroit? I think if Boston doesn't repeat it's gonna be some random team that noone saw coming.

Lot of people talking up Buffalo. Philly will be in the mix. One of the Bruins writers I read picked the Kings to hoist the cup. Don't sleep on Montreal for a Canadian team.
