    Living with regret

    by BearWithNoName » Sat Sep 12, 2020 4:54 pm

I hope everyone is doing well and surviving the pandemic madness.

For one reason or another, my wife and I have found ourselves missing on some shows and later having some serious regret (especially me). At the top of my list, and without a doubt, my biggest regret in the two 70k cruises we have survived goes to none other than... Ihsahn. I don't remember if it was a matter of schedule conflicts or being drunk/tired, but I missed Ihsahn (including the meet and greet) and I fucking regret it. Anyway, here is my list of regrets from the two voyages I have survived:

    -Napalm Death
    -Svbway to Sally
    -The Black Dahlia Murder
    -Van Canto

-Ihsahn - it even hurts to type... FUCK!

On the second year we knew what to expect, and we used Ronald Dorn's 70k Bands app, so we have an actual game-plan and stuck to it. What bands do you guys regret missing?

    - Mors Principium Est super late night pool deck show
    - Ne Obliviscaris super late night pool deck show

    - Enslaved second set conflicting with... I think Septicflesh and Swallow the Sun, not well scheduled

    - Got to see every single set I wanted to see!

    - Insomnium's 'right before pulling into the berth on Monday at breakfast time' theater set
    Survivor - 16 / 17 / 18 / 19

    - Emperor pool deck (saw the Royal Theater set, but had to shower during this set  )
    - Origin pillow fight (seeing some other band)
    - At The Gates pool deck (was having fun at the Cruachan pub set)

    - Arkona pool deck (it was delayed, for some reason I though delays meant cancelling)
    - Ne Obliviscaris and Persefone (wanted to see both sets from each, but only managed to see one of each due to other bands' schedules clashing)

    - Threshold (cuz I'm an idiot and did not value them at that point  )
    - Sonata Arctica (clashed with Wolfheart which I loved, but I will always have a soft spot for old Sonata)

    - Shitload of bands cuz I was a n00b and drank too much, too fast and fell asleep early

I guess I kind of regret missing the Cruachan pub show but it was at the same time as Kampfar, who was my top bucket list band this year.

    1. I stumbled upon the Cruachan pub set and loved it so much that I missed ATG, so I wouldn't call that a regret.
    2. Sonata was pretty bad, and Ecliptica is in my top 5 of all time. The pool deck was a decent set though, including Black Sheep and White Pearl, Black Oceans. But across both sets, they had maybe 5 exciting songs? Beyond the ones I said... in the theater, Don't Say a Word and Full Moon. On the deck, The Wolves Die Young.

My biggest regret was missing Freedom Call in 2018. Not that I had a conflict, I just never noticed that they were onboard, ugh.

If I missed something cool it was because I was already doing something just as cool. There is so much cool going on that you are bound to miss some.

2020 - Late booking and terrible dates kept me away.
