Logistics of 40 bands-worth of gear..?

by Disaster Area » Tue May 25, 2010 8:21 pm

So a big question that's been swimming around in my skull since first hearing about 70,000. Cruise ships are big, really big, but space is still a premium, they don't have big empty warehouses or storerooms as I think most of that space is filled w/ food and BOOZE to sell to the passengers. 40 bands = a TON of gear considering personal amps / guitars / drum kits. There will obviously be a house PA and I assume some limited lighting at each venue. But will each band drag along their own drum kits etc. or will there be shared kit(s) and amps etc? This may be an obvious question for those of you in or involved w/ bands. Just curious. :headbanger: :heavydrink:

I'm sure they will do what is pretty standard for most festivals which is to have a back line in place. Ampeg bass amp, Marshall stacks and a standard drum kit. The bands then bring guitar heads and extra drum stuff. Although I can still see many drummers wanting to use their own kits and so forth and it will make for a lot of work. I imagine they are approaching it like any other festival, most bands fly in for festivals and can't afford to bring all their gear. Plus it cuts down on turnover time between bands.

I would feel sorry for the roadies that have to tear down the stage every set. I think they will convince bands to share equipment. :shred: :beerhorns: :death: :headbanger: :metalguy:

Speaking of promoters doing a good job, I still say they have their work cut out for them. The logistics of this thing just boggle my mind! And we're all worried about making lists of who we want to see, pfft, try organizing the whole damned thing. Hat's off to them!

Maybe there is only 50 % of the usual Food on Board. No Specialty Restaurant - and no allday big Buffet needed. There could be some Space available ...

    I don't wanna do that Job .....
