Had some cruise chit-chats with Jari and Wintersun. Apparently they've been asked to do the cruise twice, they all really want to but Jari says that they'll be writing for the next album in January etc etc but are dead set on doing the cruise in 2014. We shall see, as we all know, Wintersun has an interesting concept of time (pun intended).

This makes me think 2013 even more since that's the EXACT story Heri from Tyr used on me.

Don't let this 2014 bullshit fool you. They will be onbroad in 2013.

I just don't understand why they would do 2014 if given an option between this year and next year? Time II would have been out for 8-9 months, I doubt they'd still be touring supporting it. It just doesn't make sense.

I don't think that is a factor. Not all bands on the cruise have albums out this year, and some that do may have released it 8-9 months prior to the cruise. I know some bands do it as a one off date, and not as part of a tour supporting an album.

I think we can safely say that bands typically fall into one of the following categories at any given time:

    1) Actively touring (either in support of a recent release or merely to keep their brand out there and create buzz for future planned releases)
    2) In studio/writing process preparing a product for future release
    3) On a break between 1 & 2 in order to get some R&R and prepare for the next round of either 1 or 2 or, likely, both
    4) On hiatus while members work on other projects or the band deals with conflict or other issues preventing them from getting back to 1, 2 or likely both
    5) Broken up with no future plans whatsoever
    5) Preparing to reunite in order to return to 1, 2 or likely both
    6) Performing at one-off festival events or short term festival tours to try out new material, prepare for larger tours or just earn some coin with no intention of embarking on either 1 or 2

Few bands choose to interrupt #2 in favour of #1 but, more often, will do so for reasons described in #6. I suspect that what Greg was suggesting was that 2013 makes more sense as they're smack dab in the middle of #1 whereas 2014 is far more likely to see them smack dab in the middle of #2. I guess fans can hope that, if they're not booked for 2013, they'll be on 2014 by way of #6.

Okay, there may be all kinds of holes in this template but it was fun to write
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me

Jari will be busy mixing Time II. That's the best explanation I can give you. What's this about 8-9 months? Time II is supposed to come out late next year, so it will have been out for like 3 months.

Ahhh, I don't know why I thought Time II was coming out in May. Maybe I made that up.

I couldn't find any specific information, one website suggested December 2013, but most places just say "late 2013". Hopefully Wintersun will be able to top my best albums list 2 years in a row haha.

The only problem I see with announcing Wintersun is how many idiots are going to post about Jari reuniting with Ensiferum for some songs.

If they do get announced, it better be very, very close to sailing so we don't have the boards/Facebook overrun with posts like that.

Yeah I don't care if Jari Dosen't play a song with Ensiferum. I've never seen Wintersun but I've seen Ensiferum four times now and to be honest, I like the current line-up better than the early Ensiferum line-up.

It's never the people on the forums that say stupid things, it's always the people on Facebook (which you are smart enough to avoid!) who aren't even going on the cruise that post the most asinine comments.

I even forgot Ensiferum was on this. I've already seen them billions of times and I like them, but I've NEVER seen Wintersun. I wouldn't even ask for Jari to join them for some songs (although I wouldn't have a problem if that happened). I just want to see Wintersun added. So bring on Wintersun UMC!

For those of you who got to see Wintersun on the recent North American tour, what were the set lists? About how long were the sets?

    Discussed here: http://70000tons.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2772

I posted a setlist (as well as I remembered it) from the first show of the tour and it sounded like they added a little more as the tour went on.

Thanks, but I heard from some friends it varied on shows. And I wasn't sure if they got to play a full set at every show

They played a full set at every show (barring technical difficulties) that consisted of the whole new album and four tracks from the first album. 'Winter Madness' and 'Battle Against Time' were alternated every other night.

We still want these guys too, UMC!

I'm still going to beg, even if people say there's a slim chance of Wintersun getting added to the 2013 lineup. You never know!

Ahhh, I don't know why I thought Time II was coming out in May. Maybe I made that up.

So yeah I guess it's early 2014 we'll be getting Time II now (what a surprise, delayed to next year). I actually have half a thought that they might not want to do 70K 2014 due to the release of Time II. If Time II is released in January it could work out so lets hope for that. Maybe Andy could just give them lots of money to play and they'll do it
