After all, I was a Navy officer in my youth (it's true, at the time we had mandatory military service in Portugal and I got "lucky" and was drafted to the Navy...) Spent the most useless 18 months of my life there, but I got the chance of being onboard a beautiful sail-ship, the School-ship Sagres (name of a city in Portugal but also the name of one of our best beers, no kidding).
Well, let's say I drank a lot of Sagres aboard the Sagres!!! :givebeer:

haha you keep working on that promotion! wow, i did not know Portugal had mandatory military service. they don't have it anymore then?

But hey, I love seeing Shakira, Kylie Minogue and so on, I just press MUTE and enjoy the sights!!! :beerwink:[/quote]

Why a suprise. I love 80s new wave as well. The Fixx, Berlin, Falco, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Thomas Dolby, and tons more! I still like 70's stuff! Helen Reddy, Jim Croce, Anne Murray, Elton John, The Carpenters, ABBA (GODS). If people do not like it, I do not give two shits

If I survive the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise, I will sing "I WILL SURVIVE" by Gloria Gaynor at the top of my lungs at a Karaokee bar.

At the time yes, unfortunately for me, this was back in 1988-89, just after I finished University (and all my male colleagues got away except me... lucky bastard I am). But sometime in the 90's it became optional and they started allowing women to join... so again I was doubly unlucky!!
But I had my good moments, wearing that white officer uniform, I looked like Tom Cruise (not our forum mate, the other one)!!!
I will never understand what you ladies see in uniformed guys, but I can tell you that I felt that fatal attraction first-hand!!!! I'll say no more! :D

OK, now I'm not surprised, I'm almost katatonic!! Gloria Gaynor? Elton John? ABBA???????? Gods???? Aren't you guys sick of that revivalistic shit that keeps regurgitating the oldies hits of ABBA in new worse than the original versions???
OK, don't get me wrong, of course I respect everybody's tastes. And I'll be in the font row seeing you (Tom and Debb) singing Dancing Queen (this one is for you, Debb, my Queen!!!)

P.S. - I wonder what would be the view of our friend Metalwrath on these "Disco gods"...

Ye may be surprised my good Pedorgal, Wrath is after all, somewhat of a hair-metal fan, who knows how far-flung his music tastes may be..?

In any case, he would certainly not hesitate to share his opinion.

and I can totally picture a Scott/Deb dancing queen duet...

I can't imagine myself listening to ABBA at home, but their contribution to the musicworld earns respect
hell, there are even quite a few tunes I happen to like listening to (just not on a weekly or even daily basis)

Look for the "Metal Tribute to Abba" and for the cover versions played by Therion, Yngwie Malmsteen and Helloween

Oh, you are soooo right!!! And it's all my fault, you know, I was the one who brought up the Disco issue in the first place!!! SORRY, Big Mouth Strikes Again!!

Well, I don't think a picture of me "In the Navy" (no, Disco again!!!!) will raise the bar when compared with the latest subject... except maybe for the ridicule factor...
But anyways, I did try, Rhia, but it seems I am not allowed to insert photos. Am I being discriminated here because I hate Disco,or what???

the killer solo song from ABBA's Frida was "I Know There Something Going On" and featured Phil Collins on drums. That was in my opinion his best drum work ever!!!

Funny thing is back in high school I absolutely abhorred all those new wave bands, I don't own anything by them, but if I hear them on the radio or as some TV commercial background music, I actually enjoy them now. I think it's just nostalgia...
Disaster Area: a plutonium rock band from the Gagrakacka Mind Zones, are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the history of the Galaxy, but the loudest noise of any kind at all.
