Our cruise destination: Which ports are fully booked?

    by Metal1529 » Mon Sep 09, 2013 9:29 pm

So, a lot of cruise ports can only accept a limited number of ships per day, right? Grand Turk for example can do only two. So we could track and eliminate some destinations perhaps by seeing which are already 'fully booked'? We will arrive at our destination on January 29.

These are the ones I've checked for that date, based on rumored destinations. I don't know 100% sure what their capacity is, but this is based on the largest number I've found on their port calendar:

Grand Turk: Fully booked (Capacity: 2 or 3, Booked: 2)
[A third ship would need to swap places with one of the others to unload, since the dock takes only two. Would likely mean an extremely crowded island, and a quick on/off at one specific time, but it has been done before on a rare occasion]

CocoCay: Possible (Capacity: 2, Booked: 1)
Belize: Possible (Capacity: 5, Booked: 4)
Labadee: Possible (Capacity: 2, Booked: 1)
Grand Cayman: Possible (Capacity: 5, Booked: 2)
Cozumel (Cancun): Possible (Capacity: 7, Booked: 4)
Nassau: Possible (Capacity: 6, Booked: 2)
Freeport: Possible (Capacity: 3, Booked: 0)

Did I miss any, or are there any that aren't an option in the first place? I'll try to update as the schedules for those ports change, until we have an actual announcement. So far it looks like only Grand Turk is out.

Hmmm interesting, if this is true then I hope we wind up in Labadee. No Grand Turk option kinda worries me.

I feel like, with only one opening, the vote better be soon if we still want Labadee.

We've been assuming we'll have a list of destinations. Perhaps we'll only get two to choose between.

Maybe we'll get lucky and ALL possible destination ports will be fully booked and we'll be "forced" to stay on the boat and listen to more :shred: :viking: :deathmetal: :death: :metalguy: :bmhorns:

You think they intend to do a fake vote then, or to just announced there won't be a vote after all?

Would be rather amusing if they went for a fake vote and included Grand Turk, which we now know is full.

Looking at it logically, to be a fair vote you would imagine they would need to leave voting open for a few weeks to give all those entitled to vote a good chance to do so and do so in a considered fashion.

So even if voting were to open today, they would close voting start of October.

3 1/2 months does not seem like a 'normal' amount of time to give a cruise line to co-ordinate all the complex logistics that are no doubt required.

    I'm no expert of course!

On my 1st cruise they changed destinations while in route to the island due too weather conditions so they really do not need much time.
Even with all the passengers all ready haveing shore excursions booked they pretty much had it all re-organized over night

This was on Carnival Glory so the size was similar.

I'm really hoping for Belize. Isn't there a Sepultura song that says something something... BELIZE... something something.

It just seems a metal destination. Oh and book Sepultura if we are doing Belize please.

The thing I'm worried about on voting is that we won't have the option to vote until we get emailed our sea passes and they have that all tied together. I'm just speculating (BECAUSE I HAVE NO FRAKING INFORMATION TO WORK OFF OF) but I have a feeling they may do that.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't seen that. I did a little research and they would have to do it with one tendering, since the docks only accommodate two. Would be a nightmare to have THREE ships on that tiny island at once.

I hadn't considered today's announcement of 'Freeport' yet. Looks like that's the only one with no ships yet, so we might have the advantage of having the island to ourselves!

I'm not sure this method is a guarantee that these ports are unavailable. Reading up on charter cruises, it does sound like a cruise line or port can and will push another ship off the schedule to accommodate one. It's all a matter of how full your ship is compared to the others and how much of an inconvenience it is to the other cruise line ($$$) and passengers to either reschedule or go to another port.

I would actually be fine with another ship of normal cruisers around; it could be entertaining.
