Somehow I'm glad Andy is making it so easy for me to stick to my not-going-plan.
The only band I really care about so far is Haggard but I really don't have to fly across the Atlantic if I want to see them.
Epica and Emperor are fine but I've seen both several times already and they are nothing special to me.
I couldn't care less for Origin and Einherjer.

All in all it really feels like Andy is trying to make this look as uninteresting as possible until the public sale starts. I still might regret not going but at least I'm confident I've made the right decision now

Announcements can and do happen on any given day of the week. For the 2018 cruise, they rolled out the first 6 bands on Monday, July 3.

You forgot the second part ,Public Sales start and the Black/Gold/Silver discount goes away ,they scheduled public sales just 4 days after Gold.Plus they did it right from the start.Plus this year nobody can hold a cabin for just a $100 bailout fee.

Actually from an IT perspective this is good news. You get to test out the system under some load, but smaller then maximum to flesh out any issues and be sure everything is in good order for the much larger push of users.

The black card users going a day early ‘should’ not effect cabin available too much (this year at least), and they get to play the guinea pigs to flesh out any issue before we hit it tomorrow.

It all comes down to trust Andy AND having a broad taste for different genres. I have absolutely no regrets in booking tomorrow with only 5 bands announced :headbanger:

    +1

I've been thinking back to how rough the 2019 lineup looked after the first few announcements (Eluveitie aside), and how it turned into such a strong lineup by the end. As long as it works with my schedule and finances I'm in, and this year it does, so I am.

If you compare this with the Megadeth cruise, it cheaper with more bands. So it depends on what you are comparing it with.

that cruise was one extra day ! and 2 real cool ports of call ! spoke to a few people that went and they had a great time !
there is a 80s cruise more ports of call and free booze unlimited it is sold out already for March 2020 !

For a lot of people (myself included) 70k is the nearly perfect package of a festival. My only complaint has been the communication (and occasionally merch) but everything else is pretty much exactly what I want it to be.

Cheapest Quad total MegaCruise total =$1085
    Cheapest Quad total 70k =$1381
Factor for MegaCruise 108 hrs. vs. 84 hrs. 70k
    Under these parameters

70k is about 63% more expensive

No discounts factor or intangibles such as quality of cruise experience (Bands ,Food, and Ship amenities)
I don’t know about the alcohol prices to compare.
70k gets cheaper as you get into better cabins
MegaCruise has only 4% pay in full discount vs. 5% for 70k

Mega Cruise only delivered 20 bands? 70,000 Ton will deliver 60.

In many ways we are comparing substantially different productions and viewed from different angels things will look differently.

I for one am glad to give me money to 70,0000 tons on the assumption that they deliver what they have delivered every other time I have sailed with them.

if there are 60 bands and 120 shows in theory , past a certain amount of bands you can only physically see so many shows anyway!
most people on a cruise as 70000 tons might see between 15 and 30 shows anyway, you need time for other things !!!!!!
It is good that people on this forum can express different points of view freely!!!!!!

Didn't megacruise also have a bunch of dead time and then overlapping sets and some kind of weird color pass system for what sets you could see?

Correct - their shows were all like between 2pm and 1am or something lame like that, and at one point they had Overkill AND Metal Church AND Death Angel playing at the same time!

And yes for the 'bigger' bands like Lamb of God, their sets were 'color coded' so you could only see 1 of their 2 sets because they didn't think the capacity in the theatre would be sufficient to house everyone that wanted to see them all at the same time.

Coming up to close of normal business hours Monday, and still only 5 bands.

Makes me wonder if Golds are only gonna have five?

Staff: "Hey skipper, should we purchase extra compute to handle the load of all the golds this year?"
Skipper: "Nah, I'll just give them fuck-all announcements so a lot will hold off from booking straight away"

    :P

I'm ready to book. The bands are just the icing on the cake for me. Whatever kind of clusterfuck it all looks like at this time of year, they've never failed to deliver a top-shelf experience once we're all on board. I'd be fine with the final band announcements happening while we're walking up the gangplank, tbh.
I'm only here to do two things: play the bagpipes and gargle sulphuric acid. Looks like we're almost out of acid.

Hopefully Andy does not cut it that close, I still need to cram the schedule into the app! But as whole, I agree. Hopefully the late start and the early date does not effect the final product. Right now, I am better it wont. Booking tomorrow morning.

If this theory about the Skip hoping Golds won't come back (due to $$$ losses) then, maybe bring back Barge to Hell II.
Have them both leave Miami/Ft. around the same time perhaps.
It would split us all up, of course not when there are only 5 goddamn bands announced ffs, but, after a big batch of bands released for both. Newbies, Blackies, Goldies...etc can make a decision on what boat to go on.
Just my own little theory about this so called theory.

IF you had a choice of Barge to Hell II - bound for the same port/island as 70k but leaves a day later/before,
    would you like that?
Pretending that hiring 2 boats at once is not a problem! haha

It is interesting that the announced public sales date is listed as Saturday but if you go to the booking code page it states “ If you are new to 70000TONS OF METAL,you need to wait for Public Sales!”
Which means that booking for public won’t start on Saturday but discounts for survivors will.No way can they work out the cabin assignments in 96 hours, multiple time zones and matching single cruisers.

I for one am glad to give me money to 70,0000 tons on the assumption that they deliver what they have delivered every other time I have sailed with them.
...and Megacruise had Eddie Trunk onbroad...reason right there to stay away

For all the complaining etc, its interesting to note that this is not without precedent. Admittedly in recent times we've known 10ish bands before gold opens, but in 2013 for the 2014 cruise, we only knew four bands.

    And they were all repeats!

Dark Tranquillity (2011), Soilwork (Barge), Overkill (2012) and Death Angel (2011)!!

    I'm ready to book.
Out of 60 bands, I'm sure I'll find some I like. And I like to listen to bands I don't know, I found several pearls that way.
But it's depressing to know about black cards and to know I'll never get one. :shots:
What about platinum card for triple gold survivors? I'll be one, soon. It's not about discount, it just would be nice.
