    Symphorce
    Katatonia
    Morgana Lefay
Judas Priest - Would be one of the many good ways to end it before they really call it quits in 2012

I hate to rain on the parade for some of you but, Opeth is not going to be this cruise. They start recording their new album next month in Sweden. It's on their web site. I did get the privalege of seeing them on the Melloboat cruise a couple years ago for my birthday. Good times.

We did speculate about this earlier. Every fan is holding out hope that they can still make it. Unless the dates have been updated they don't enter the studio until the 31st. The timeline still fits!

Yes, pity. I've seen them live numerous times, but I too would've loved the idea of seeing them play on the ship. A few months ago (when the 10th band wasn't even announced yet), I brought up the idea to Andy Farrow. He had no idea about the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise ship. After exchanging just a few e-mails, he mentioned that it wouldn't be possible for Opeth to play on the ship being that they're very big and most likely would be busy  *sighs* Oh well...

I've no complains...most of the line up is pretty good for me. Can't wait to head-bang until my neck breaks & my head falls off :metalguy:

They could get Tagtgren to do vocals but they would still need a drummer (if we rule out all Opeth members from this). Or you can assume drums need to least amount of work pre production. But then again we are talking about Opeth drumming, so that theory goes out the window.

Ah screw it, get Nystrom & Swano, throw in a few other Swedes and do some Diabolical Masquerade tunes

    OR

Nah, MDB sure was fun in pouring rain in Metalcamp 2009 but to take them on broad a cruise in the Caribbean is just wrong. I would suggest Vader - they're probably the best band to raise the spirits of people. Or something like Kvelertak, they seem like a merry bunch.

Opeth would work if Morbid Angel are not together anymore. I heard something about the drummer having health issues and cannot drum?

Pete Sandoval had back surgery recently, so Tim Yueng has filled in for the recording of the new album, which is apparently completed or almost completed.

MA has booked festival shows for 2011, so they either have plans to keep Tim Yueng on drums or expect Pete to be back (pun intended)

Would be beyond awesome if they were playing :deathmetal: :deathmetal: :deathmetal:

    ----------------------
    March 18, 2010

World Management and Morbid Angel would like to let the fans know
that rumors about Pedro Sandoval¹s back surgery are in fact true.
Pete has suffered for a long time with a deteriorating disc problem.
He was in daily pain and needed to have this done.
He has recently been treated by a Laser Back Surgery specialist
in Tampa Florida. He is currently in rehabilitation and doing well.
Pete is part of our family and the band¹s History
and we all wish him well and a full recovery.
Unfortunately this type of injury, subsequent surgery and rehab
cannot be rushed and it will take ample time for him to hopefully
be back behind his drums again and out on tour with Morbid Angel.

The band is moving forward on their next recording with Tim Yeung.
Currently the guys are in rehearsals in Tampa putting their finishing
touches on the songs for the New album, which is slated for later
this year with subsequent touring world wide.

    December 2, 2010

World Management would like to announce that Morbid Angel will headline
Portugal’s Vagos Open Air 2011 Festival on Saturday August 6, 2011.
Additional announcements for European Festivals and shows coming soon.

Oh god I hope that Pete is able to come back. I haven't heard anything either way, but it always seems news from the Morbid Angel camp is very hard to come by until they make an official announcement. Weird they are able to keep things so tight lipped in this day and age. But news of them doing shows is a great sign no matter how it shakes out.

One of the online samples they played of Tim Yueng tracking the drums sounded very Sandoval-ish. I don't know how long Pete was battling the back issue (if at all) when they started writing the new album, so maybe the songs were tailored to his style. But Tim has the chops to fill in nicely. And he played with Rutan in Hate Eternal (among others), who is influenced by Morbid Angel/Trey, so he's familiar with the blast beats and crazy time changes.

Overkill, Kreator ( German trifecta ), Megadeth, Yngwie Malmsteen ( new album just released, lives in Miami!, and Ripper on vocals ), Cannibal Corpse ( also reside in Floroda ) :D

I'm beginning to think that they don't have a 40th band booked yet. If this is the case, it may seriously drop the number of bands that could fill the role. With only 3 weeks to go until the cruise, I'm willing to bet it would have to be an american band. I don't know all the visa rules, but since the ship is ported in the United States, I would guess that a band would have to get a work visa to get paid for performing on the cruise. Given the way things usually move along in this country, I'm not sure that could happen in the short time between now and when we set off.

However, this does still leave Symphony X in the pool! :P

I disagree, this got sent out on the facebook group/event thinger:

Scott Cameron wrote:We are about 3 weeks out now before the big event and the ship will sail. So those who have not booked, you better get booking or you will miss the boat. They just announced yesterday that TESTAMENT will be performing their legendary "The Legacy" album in it's entirety on the way down to Cozumel. If that was not enough, On the way back to Miami they will perform "The New Order" in its entire! A TRIAL BY FIRE!!!!!!!!

The countdown has begun. 39 of the 40 bands have been confirmed and the list for the event has been updated here. Stay tuned for band #40, guaranteed to blow your mind!!!!!!!!

    See everyone on the 24th!!!

Seems pretty confident that the last band is a big announcement.

Oh hang on, is this Scott like Tom Cruise Scott or a different Scott?

Not sure. I've given up on thinking it's a big announcement by now. Considering this hasn't sold out yet, if they did have something to blow people's minds I would've expected it already to give maximum time for additional people to book the cruise. Not saying I wouldn't approve of something huge, just trying to be an annoying realist here.

Wait, does that even make sense? I hate English. It was funny, Kevin, as your potshots usually are.

    Story of my life

I find LOVE the idea of #40 not being booked yet. That opens the possibilities to bands that we had already ruled out a long time ago. Or at the very least hopefully rules out Turisas and Cradle of Filth.

I know this venture isn't cheap, but I'm still shocked this didn't sell out in record time. It has to be a matter of promotion and not enough people hearing about it. I would think that if this event goes off without any major problems & they make this a yearly event, next year is going to sell much much faster.

You're a Bostonian, so of course you can barely speak English. :P :P :P
