    ^^^ I do agree. :D
I had always thought of these guys to be very dark, heavy, devil music in in my youth. They conveyed such a foreboding type image in that 70’s era. :?
    http://youtu.be/TE1lifYefsM

A couple of other bands that I also thought were foreboding and dark in my youth and in that same era and a little earlier are these two bands. Somehow they just conveyed a darkness about them and their sound. :?

I just give this one because it is one of my favorites and I really like the fan video. Classic :smoking: :smoking: :smoking: :smoking:

Gaaaah! Must admit - as strange as this may sound - didn't get into Sabbath back in the day (70s) and still not much a fan to this day - although I dug seeing Dio at Wacken in 2009.

I do love the BOC & Steppenwolf tracks you linked...but there is one I love even more - Three Dog Night's Eli's Coming - one of my top fave songs of all time. I will NEVER tire of it! :) :P

Oh man - this is so great - Mama Told Me Not to Come
    http://youtu.be/rKaQzQAlNn4

Mama Told Me (Not to Come) by Three Dog Night
Want some whiskey in your water
    Sugar in your tea
What's all these crazy questions they askin' me
This is the craziest party there could ever be
Don't turn on the lights, 'cause I don't want to see

Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
That ain't the way to have fun, no

    Open up the window
Let some air into this room
    I think I'm almost chokin'
From the smell of stale perfume

    And that cigarette you're smoking
'Bout scared me half to death
    Open up the window, sucker
    Let me catch my breath

    [Refrain]
Mama told me not to come
Mama told me not to come
She said, that ain't the way to have fun, son
That ain't the way to have fun, son

    The radio is blastin'
    Someone's knocking at the door
    I'm lookin' at my girlfriend
She's passed out on the floor

    I seen so many things
    I ain't never seen before
    Don't know what it is
I don't wanna see no more

    [Refrain]

Mama told me, mama told me, mama told me
    Told me, told me
That ain't no way to have fun, whoah, yeah yeah
Mama told me not to come
    Mama, mama, mama told me
That ain't no way to have fun

That ain't the way to have fun, no
That ain't the way to have fun, son
That ain't the way to have fun, no
That ain't the way to have fun, son

They have released a FREE EP with acoustic versions of 3 songs at Amazon.
Never take anything I say seriously.

    Sweet!
Oh, and here's my PF Meddle update - now having listened to it a few times through on Spotify - there were a few songs I don't believe I'd heard before - San Tropez & Seamus; the others I had including the incredible Echoes. (listening to it now)

Yeah, there are definitely times where I have to skip those 2 songs, but the rest of the album is just terrific.

Hey, a little Three Dog Night derailment. Very COOL. :D
They produced a treasure trove of hits in that 70’s era.
Too many favorites but I’ll try to give some of my more favorite hits of TDN.

If one cannot make a Styx show live this is a highly recommended DVD of theirs with the current lineup. The best that I have seen of the band in years. Also has a very cool opening from that 70’s era. :D
Styx: The Grand Illusion / Pieces of Eight- Live [DVD / 2CD]

Once upon a time a very long time ago.

One of my favorite opening tunes from one of their more creative tours. :D :D :D

My other from their most ambitious, grandiose tour. :ugeek: :D

^^^ not to split hairs here Michael ( hardy-har) - but do Ratt, Skid Row, & Dokken qualify as "classic rock?" I always thought of them as 80s hair metal - although I don't really know as I really only know of them by name and don't know their music at all. Did you listen to them in their heyday? (1980s?) I had nothing against them per se, they just weren't on my musical interest radar at that time (although was definitely aware of their names) - I was much more into groups like The Clash, Peter Gabriel, The Smiths, Ultravox, Squeeze, Culture Club   , New Order, Black Flag, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Black Box, Talking Heads, Ministry, Madonna   , Front 242, The Cure, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and countless other synth-pop/pop, New Wave, early-rap/hip-hop, & punk/post-punk bands of the day.

Anyway - would like your thoughts on this very important matter. :P

And re: classic rock - this was a true conversation today:
Me: Ya wanna go see Cheap Trick on August 31st?
He: i thought you said this morning you had had enough "classic rock" gigs (for awhile at least).
Me: Yeah, I did - but I just got an email from Goldstar with an offer for $15 since they haven't sold out the Pavilion at Ravinia.
He: Does it say what they're gonna play?
Me: Live at Budokan in its entirety, and Sgt. Pepper - weird - since when has Cheap Trick been doing Beatles stuff?
He: Live at Budokan for $15? Hmmm...
Me: Yep - it will be the perfect end of summer fling... *sings "Hello there, ladies & gentleman, hello there, ladies & gentlemen, are you ready to rock?"* http://youtu.be/JrZHXYowMAU
    He: Alright, let's do it.
    Me: Ok, sold.

    Gig description:
Still going strong after nearly 40 years, the Rockford, Ill.-based Cheap Trick continues to rock with the best of them, and the group is bringing its high-energy tour to the Ravinia Pavilion. In this performance, the group will be playing in full two of their biggest hits -- 1979's Cheap Trick at Budokan and 2009's Sgt. Pepper Live -- with a full orchestra. Cheap Trick was ranked No. 25 in VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, so you know the group will bring the noise. It may not be Cheap Trick Day in Illinois (that's April 1), but the group will make the most of its homecoming at this concert.

@ Laura, (With the deadhead sticker on a Cadillac line being my favourite since I was once a major (Grateful) deadhead
You being a Deadhead also surprised me because on the cruise of 2012 it took you soooooooo long to recognize my Grateful Dead (Electric Shull) hockey jersey (Dead 1). Two other woman recognized the logo (one of which is Rhia) and the other was a quest that walked by me in one of the dining areas. She had smiled, laughed and said, “Deadhead on a metal cruise, Cool”. Nice story with Rhia and Gnoff while I was wearing my jersey was Gnoff comes up and he prided himself on knowing hockey teams and their jerseys but he did not know what team I had on. Rhia laughed and replied, “Dumb shit, it’s the Grateful Dead”. Gnoff looked at us confused over Grateful Dead? Who are Grateful Dead? We just laughed because the look on Gnoff’s face was priceless and clueless.

Back to the Eagles. The show was really nice. I enjoyed the first half of the concert more than the second half mainly due to having Bernie Leadon back playing in the band and they played their tunes from the beginning to the “One of These Night” albums. They ended the first half with a nice talk about Randy Meisner and Glen sang “Take it to the Limit”.
    http://youtu.be/ItlY6oIfRVg

Don spoke very highly of Linda Ronstadt before breaking into “Desperado” and talked about her autobiography that she has written and is out now. http://youtu.be/oAK5Ids7l5g

The first half was mostly an all-acoustic set which was really cool. The second half was all electric and pretty much standard fair for an Eagles’ show. Just play the hits. Joe Walsh was the highlight. Sad not having Don Felder in the band and it really shows and you can see it when Walsh plays. Joe does not have anybody to play off of or challenge his guitar playing anymore.
    http://youtu.be/tCngSv8NzS0

As for the Classic Rock question, my classic rock canvas is painted from a pallet of many colours and hues from many different eras and periods. No I really do not consider Ratt (“Invasion of your Privacy” could be their best disc and this tune I swear I will still have in my head when I die is http://youtu.be/0VUP4thpr3c ), Skid Row (Do take some time and give their “Slave to the Grind” disc and dare you NOT to “Bang your Head” at least a few times. Underrated and often missed out disc), and Dokken (Classic tune of theirs and one of their best is “Dream Warriors”), classic rock yet but those bands are approaching that period of definition. A couple of years ago at least in this part of the USA; Motley Crue was deemed Classic Rock. I do consider that those bands have some of the best classic tunes and discs from the Hair Metal era.

I also consider a band Classic if somebody has made an impact, change a course of music, contributed something that may have changed or influence our society, how we view/listen to music (remember when MTV played music) also if the song still sounds fresh and new today as it did say some 30 years ago.
A lot of classic rock came out of the ‘80s and some of those classic rock bands from the 70s had their biggest successes in the 1980s like Journey’s Escape album, REO Speedwagon’s Hi In Fidelity, Foreigner 4, and Agent Provocateur, Deep Purple’s Perfect Strangers, YES’ 90125, just to name a few.
    http://youtu.be/raNGeq3_DtM LOL I remembered. :D

As for Cheap Trick and the “He replies”, sometimes he just needs to remember “That is only Rock and Roll and YOU like it” (Rolling Stones)! There also is the reply, “Better to burn out than fade away” (Def Leppard)! If those still don’t work you can always play there will be NO MORE, “wham bam, thank you ma'am” (David Bowie) if you don’t take me to a classic rock gig. LOL ;) :D
I hope that you enjoyed Cheap Trick. I do hope that you…

I think that this is the first time that I wrote more then you on one post. LOL

Glad you enjoyed the gig, a good friend went to Friday's Chicago gig & loved it. I don't feel tooo bad about missing it though - it's strange because even though I liked them very much as a teenager (their 70s heyday) and I swear I know every lyric by heart, they aren't in my personal 70s "A" list category, although I acknowledge they are an extremely talented band.....

Sad to hear of Lou Reed's passing - I was never a HUGE fan of Reed/Velvet Underground, yet I certainly appreciate his talent, influence & legacy. My biggest memory of Lou Reed & his music would have to be hearing the song Walk on the Wild Side on the radio when it came out in the early 70's. Being the (somewhat) precocious child that I was, that song intrigued/fascinated me no end at the time. Second favorite song would have to be Sweet Jane from a few years earlier. As many times as I've heard both songs since then, I've never tired of them.

On a related classic rock note, I saw that Kansas posted on fb today there are still tix available for the opening night of their 40th anniversary tour which begins Friday night in Chicago. Hmmm.... Wasn't planning on going to that (I've seen them a few times, yet long ago), but just to hear Dust in the Wind again might be worth it....one of the best slow classic rock songs, period.

Well, the discount ticket broker Goldstar was offering $15 tickets for this Friday night's opening gig of Kansas' 40th anniversary tour. Bloody hell - just when I thought I'd had enough "classic rock" gigs for awhile  :P ... But decided I can't pass that up for $15! So, of course I had to read up on and listen to some Kansas. Haha - I only owned one album of theirs that I remember buying soon after it came out in late 1976 - Carry on Wayward Son was a huge hit and I had to have the album it came from - Leftoverture. I'm listening to it now on Spotify - it's possible I've not heard this all the way through in well over 30 years. Weird - how I immediately remember every lyric & note. Even though Carry on Wayward Sun was the huge hit from that album, there are several GREAT songs including What's on my Mind, Miracles Out of Nowhere, and, well, all of them really!!
    Image
What's on my Mind - great rocker, great vocals, great everything!

    Lyrics: KANSAS
    What's On My Mind Lyrics
Well you told me that I was just not the one
And you left me standing out in the cold
It's been a long time and I'm so much better now
That I'm looking back and seeing it all

And for the first time there's no pain in my life
Though it's a long hard road that I've gone
    We had a good thing
And it made me a man and I know

    You got me goin'
Pardon me my feelings are showing
I'm only saying what's on my mind

Well I found you or maybe I found myself
And I think we knew it all of the time
We fit together just like a lock and a key
And we opened up each other's minds

I was laughing 'cause there was no room to cry
There was too much growing to do
    We had a good time
    [ From: http://www.elyrics.net ]
And it ain't over yet 'cause I know

    You got me goin'
Will you pardon me my feelings are showing
I'm only saying what's on my mind

You came from nowhere and you just jumped in my life
And I know it never will be the same
You made me love you and now I'm home once again
No, I never want to leave you no more

'Cause I'm attached to the better half of myself
And there's nowhere else that I'd rather be
    You filled an empty
You fixed a bad broken heart and I know

    You got me goin'
Pardon me my feelings are showing
I'm only saying what's on my mind

I'm only saying what's on my mind
I'm only saying what's on my mind
I'm only saying what's on my mind

*** just checked my master gig history list, and I only saw Kansas once - October 6, 1979 at Assembly Hall (large indoor sports arena) on the campus of my university (UIUC) in Urbana/Champaign, Illinois. Haha - that was my freshman year and I remember feeling like the ultimate kid in the candy store - buying tickets for as many gigs as possible!

I adore Kansas - will never get to see them live I'm sure which is a bit sad.

    Have fun!!!

Was thinking about this thread the other day when I saw news that one of our FM radio networks in Australia is launching a purely 'classic rock' digital radio station!!!

    http://www.triplem.com.au/sydney/music/ ... tal-radio/

I haven't listened to radio much in yeeeeears, but when this station launches I will definitely tune in.

Cool you're a fan of Kansas....definitely another favorite of mine during high school, although I've not really actively listened to them since then! We have a great classic rock radio station in Chicago called The Drive which we listen to a fair amount http://www.wdrv.com/home.php - The Kansas gig tomorrow night is number one on their calendar - lol. I'm off of work today and so far have been having a lot of fun youtubing different bands (haha - one of my favorite hobbies in my free time). I love how youtube brings up so many suggestions of other great bands/videos.

I found out late yesterday that Blue Oyster Cult & Foghat are doing a gig here in mid-December - kinda interested in going to see that as well. I have no idea how Foghat would be though - lead singer, guitarist and heart & soul of the band, Dave Peverett is long dead, and I can't imagine who they have to fill in for him. BoC would be cool to see though - never saw them. That gig will be a wait and see - tickets are a bit steep right now and we'll wait to see if Goldstar offers some discount closer in.

Here are some of my favorite youtubes that came up once I started viewing Foghat live.

Foghat: I Just Wanna Make Love to You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLsUumxd38A - love their boogie woogie, bluesy, groove rock n rock.
Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter, Dave Peverett & others doing I Just Wanna Make Love to You  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLhP_DWdUC0

Others that came up...love all of these

Rick Derringr: Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdHnGyU1yJQ

the slow groove to this is amazing
Robin Trower: Bridge of Sighs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tLsFsGxLmE

And this just rocks all over the place….
Robin Trower: Day of the Eagle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Su8Ww5zRJTU

Ted Nugent: 1979 show live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEwy9WiEXPw
yeah people, I know Ted Nugent is a total ass (or at least became more & more of one over the years).... but I still love his music & guitar playing - always will. In this video, he opens the show coming out swinging on a rope like Tarzan. He was dressed like that and did the same rope entrance when I saw him a year later...quintessential rock 'n roll bad boy/cave man. He could totally whip the crowd into a frenzy! Would have loved to have been at this gig with Aerosmith, AC/DC & Mahogany Rush. :beerbang: :beerbang: :beerbang:

....ugh - need to sign off and do some housework or something else useful now. ;)

Had to take a break from housework and get back on youtube....just found something truly golden in my view....
Humble Pie: For Your Love - live at "The Beat Club" 1970 featuring a 20 year old Peter Frampton (in the blue shirt) :P
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyg13MPGiSM
I always knew he had been a member of Humble Pie, but had never really searched out old video footage of them.

Shit - Frontman Steve Marriot was pretty amazing
Humble Pie: I Walk on Gilded Splinters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnI6W3l_1Oo
Humble Pie: I Don't Need No Doctor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZMmV6xXYFw :beerbang: :beerbang:

ok - back to work :bitch:

    For Laura, a Kansas flashback.
    http://youtu.be/SwSZYRQwZmg

Another of their classic tunes and the album (Audio Visions) that begins their period of being a Christian band. Lots of changes occurred in the band at this time.
    http://youtu.be/g5TxGk7hZTI

    A little Kansas and Wagner.
    http://youtu.be/Vg6tHOEwNVM

Their Christian sound with a new lead singer.
    http://youtu.be/W2azO25JtFo
    http://youtu.be/6HD1FPPGvl4

And Foghat’s lead singer should be Charlie Huhn who was Ted Nugent’s singer on the album, “Weekend Warriors”.
    http://youtu.be/VXcf5GQcpik

Foghat with BOC, I’d go see that show but BOC just played 2 shows this summer at our state fair so I doubt that they would do a return visit and I am shocked that you have never seen BOC.

One of my favourite classics by BOC, plus I just really like this fan favourite video.
    http://youtu.be/ln8-Y-fIbqM
The KING of all monsters RULE! LOL :D

    My other favourite tune is.

Read this interesting bit via Facebook today.....

40 Years Ago: Genesis Make a Transition With ‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’

    http://ultimateclassicrock.com/genesis- ... ck=tsmclip
‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’ is Genesis‘ best-known enigma, a project almost universally respected if seldom understood. Often impenetrable and frankly overlong, this double disc effort also features Peter Gabriel‘s most approachable band song in ‘Carpet Crawlers.’ The album, to that point, was Genesis’ biggest seller in its native U.K., and eventually the death knell for the group’s initial phase.
By the time it was over, Gabriel had left for a celebrated solo career, and Genesis had been reshaped forever. Even now, ‘The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway’ — which was released in November 1974 — is a bundle of contradictions, mysteries, narrative twists and real-life turns.
Just like its principal creator, Gabriel.
Genesis put forward a tough character named Rael in a difficult situation — and it had more in common with the Who‘s rock operas than with anything the sometimes twee Genesis had done before. And, from the start, Tony Banks felt they’d gone too far.
“It’s OK,” he told the Telegraph in 2014. “But it’s not the greatest piece we’ve ever done.” Gabriel counters: “[Tony] just didn’t like me getting away with too much, or getting into a controlling position. He wanted to keep check on my power.”
Still, Gabriel has consistently said, “If you really want to define a world, you have to let one person paint it. There weren’t many novels created by committee.”
Gabriel’s novel, dense and full of strange imagery, found a half-Puerto Rican street tough named Rael roaming through a hellish New York City, trying to rescue a lost sibling. That couldn’t have had less in common with an early suggestion from fellow bandmate Mike Rutherford that the group base its next album on the classic ‘The Little Prince,’ a coming-of-age fable by Antoine Saint-Exupery.
“This was 1974,” Gabriel point out in ‘Without Frontiers: The Life and Music of Peter Gabriel.’ “It was pre-punk, but I still thought we needed to base the story around a contemporary figure, rather than a fantasy creation. We were beginning to get into the era of the big, fat supergroups of the ’70s, and I thought, ‘I don’t want to go down with the Titanic.’”

Haha - fun to look at my earlier post re the great classic rock gigs I saw last summer....
Roger Hodgson (former lead singer, musician, & primary songwriter of Supertramp) was so great -
makes me think of one of of my favorite lines, and songs from that 70s era....
So you think you're a Romeo? Playing a part in a picture show?.....take the long way home.

What an amazing cultural icon he was and still is - now in his late 60s & celebrating more than 50 years in music.

First albums I ever bought with my own money (around age 9 or 10) were Hotter than Hell and Rock n' Roll Over

Now, 40 years later, I'm performing the role of one of my idols with this lot!

    ALIVE N' KISSIN'

WAY too much fucking fun for an old fart like me

We've only played 3 shows, have our 4th coming up this Friday (all for between 75 - 200 ppl) but will be delivering a 25 minute showcase set to close to a thousand people on June 8th in downtown Vancouver.

This is what happens when ya let a basement guitar hack sing his own shit during metal Karaoke on a damn cruise ship! :headbanger:
So far at least, 2011, 2012 & 2015 were enough for me
