    correct
I was thinking of the Motorhead cruise which was september....
regardless, construct holds up...could push it later in year , and even do an almost double header dec 2021, then feb 2022, I would bet money that assuming covid cleared up, they both would sell out.

You make an interesting point , but the average person with medium financial resources would probably struggle to pay for the two cruises in a close interval as you suggest , even if it could be accomplished safely from a health and wellness aspect . I would select the Feb 2022 cruise only in the scenario that you present .

There were a few people that backed up and did 70k, then barge, then the next 70k. But there were a lot that did have to choose one or the other.

For americans where the cost of travel is not as big a factor it would be a LITTLE easier, but still not a guarantee due to the need to get leave from work etc.

Given how popular 70k has become, and how desperate people would be to get back on broad, I agree they could do something like one in Dec 2021 and one in Feb 2022 and they would both sell out.

A possible issue I could see, would be getting 120 bands that Andy deems worthy, to fill both (Remembering back in Barge days we were back on the 40-bands Majesty).

That might be more difficult than we think because as touring returns to normal as I hope it will have started to by end next year, some bands might be less willing to lock out 7 days to do 70k for little return, when they could be doing say 5-7 shows on a tour at the same time....

    Just some food for thought!

Not sure of the other countries around the world , but for aid in helping people get back on their feet from the pandemic , in the USA we have only received twelve hundred dollars one time from the government for a stimulus , there is significant down turn presently ,with many people trying to make ends meet here, to pay for food , car payments and house payments , it will take awhile for things to improve to have some disposable income again .

the top 5 countries impacted the most severely from coronavirus in order are as follows
    1- USA
    2-India
    3-Brazil
    4-Russia
    5-Spain

Yes good point highlighting the financial impact.

While on a health perspective Australia has not been impacted as heavily, we certainly have felt the economic pain and are currently in "a recession".

There have been a number of govt initiatives to try and combat this - one off payments, additional handouts, tax cuts etc - but it will take a long time to recover.

TRUTH, but by this date last year we knew cabin prices and deck plans.

This year, we don't even know what ship!

The one is so true it hurts a little :)

I am very curious what 'would' have happened this year without the pandemic. What ever it was, I am sure those plans have been screwed every which way, multiple times for a while now with the pandemic. We may never know what 'would' have happened, but hopefully Andy will eventually let us know what is 'going' to happen.

Andy, just announce Feb 2022 and lets all move on. I want to have something at least likely to happen to look forward to.

One brightside I see at least, is I dont think its screwed UMC over so badly they will never recover.

If that was the case, I don't think the 70k crew would be anywhere near as active (or, active at all) on social media.

I agree with what you are saying Royal Caribbean on the Mariner of the Seas ship was able to reschedule the 80 s cruise to March of 2022 already , so there is much hope for music cruises to return in the future .

78 days until what WAS to be the set sail date for 70k 2021.

We are now well under the 3-months-from-sailing, the time at which Royal Caribbean apparently notifies upcoming sailings/charters of cancellations.

We are also now past any of last year's 'records' for lateness. To recap last year:

107 days from sailing - Cabin prices and deck layouts appeared on the 70k website
81 days from sailing - booking dates were announced
80 days from sailing - first band (EMPEROR) announced
78 days from sailing - 'black' bookings started
77 days from sailing - 'gold' bookings started

This is getting ridiculous... even by UMC's lofty standards ! We're just over 2 months out from sailing date and they keep posting on their social accounts like everything's fine.
UMC & RC must locked in a staring contest, who blinks first is the one who cancels the thing and pays the penalty, that's the only sane explanation to this situation... albeit not a satisfactory one ! Come we're 2 months out, everybody knows 70k won't sail on jan. 7th 21, make official one way or another ! And give us some bone to gnaw on by announcing the next sailing date (with the name of the cruise line if it's not too much too ask for this time ?) !

There is no staring contest with RC. There is no way that RC has not already cancelled the charter. With the CDC requirements such as mask, no buffets, social distancing and limited venue capacity on board no charter cruises will be sailing anytime soon on any cruise line. Plus RC doesn't want the liability in case a shipful gets sick.

UMC might be waiting until they have either a rescheduled date for the cruise or are working one something different.

BTW...I don't think any of us need an announcement to know the cruise will not be happening in January.

They just extended the cruise ban yesterday until February so now 70000tons is off the hook for anything I would think. There should be an announcement SOON!

What I read is that RC cancelled all cruises for December but anything after that may still happen and the CDC has lifted to no sail rule already so 70k may still happen for all we **officially** know...

You may be right on that but it's madness that 70k can't announce anything 2 months from the planned sailing date when it was clear months ago already that 70k wouldn't sail in january. All other theme cruises have announced new dates months ago !

I certainly don't ! But, reading some posts on the FB group, some people DO need 70k to spell the obvious for them....

57 days to go! Wow! We'll get better than 1 band announcement a day!!!

:headbanger:

Seriously though, its a bit crap that there is still not one iota of news about the next sailing (not even sure its worth referring to it as "70k 2021").

The social media crew carrying on almost like nothing unusual is happening....

Just give us some ACTUAL news - are you planning for a late 2021 sailing? Different cruise line? Different starting point? Throw us a BONE skipper!

I mean, "a bit crap" is a bit of an understatement... It's a fucking disgrace that there's been no official contact since March. No, "hey guys, we'll keep you up to date as soon as we can", no "just to reassure you we're working hard behind the scenes and keeping an eye on what's what", no "thanks for hanging in guys, here's where we stand." It'd take all of 5 minutes, once every couple of months, just to be a decent organiser and show even the TINIEST morsel of respect to the loyal fanbase, just SOMETHING. Every single other festival organiser I know of was going above and beyond to keep their fans informed, and they run vastly more high profile festivals than this. It ain't really on, and it's a testament to how loyal we all are that there's not been any uproar.

I mean we all know to expect nothing less, this kind of shoddy captaining is hardly anything new. But come on... Are we seriously just going to sail on past Christmas and past the new year and past the sail date as if it's all nothing? I think it's about time us fans were finally shown the same respect that we show to those in charge, before even more start to go elsewhere.

At this point, I'm gonna agree that it's probably a plan to avoid some sort of cancellation thing with RC by having them doing it rather than 70k, and by showing that 70k is still "eager" to set sail and has no intention of cancelling is the goal. There might even be some sort of legal aspect to it and that's why they act the way they do - telling anyone what the plan is would likely ruin it. Being upset about what you basically already know (that it's not going to sail) doesn't make any sense to me. Your life isn't ruined because they're not updating you every step of the way. It would also be reasonable to assume that there isn't enough time and there's too much going on with Covid for them to snub a vast majority of their sailer-base (being foreign) by not giving you the time to plan should it sail. Everyone just needs to chill out and go with the flow.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but it's very unprofessional and anti consumer to not be more communicative, and no I don't think the social media posts count, as they are content free and more feel good then actual cruise news.

Is it the end of the world...no, do we all know the cruise is cancelled, sure. But come on, at some point the lack of communication is just silly. You have people that hand you a decent chunk of money every year, how hard is it to give us some real news about the state of things. Even a simple, we know things are trying, hang in there, we will get back to you soon'. Coming from Andy himself, this would be something at least.

Considering it is suppose to be a close knit worldwide heavy metal community , it would be appropriate for 70000 Tons to extend common courtesy to share information freely , many people save all year long to attend and to make plans a year ahead of time for the next year , also there is much money put into this ,I paid to 70000 Tons in three years of attending approximately 15,000 US dollars for 3 cruises , large portion of that going directly to 70000 Tons ! A little mutual respect and courtesy go a long way !

    100%

Would hate to imagine how much I've spent all up over the last 10 years attending 70k - sometimes solo, sometimes with my partner, and last couple of times with my son as well.

Not the end of the world sure. But for the last 10 years its been such a huge part of my life - not just the cruise itself, but all the other bits - the saving up, the anticipation of announcements, the myriad of tasks that need to be taken care of beforehand (visa waivers, passports, flights, accommodation, things to do pre and/or post cruise).

So the lack of information of any kind is a bit disappointing. It's probably too SOON to have any concrete plans for the next sailing but just a little something to throw our way would be nice.

Well, that's it exactly. There's a thing in contract law called a "force majeure event." In this case, Royal officially cancelling the charter due to COVID-19 would BE that event. Ironically, UMC has to continue acting -- at least outwardly -- as if the cruise was still taking place. So, for the first time in UMC's rather tawdry announcement history, they might actually have an ironclad reason NOT to say too much.

But a simple statement saying "We are aware of the COVID-19 concerns. At this time the cruise is still scheduled to take place as scheduled. If and when anything changes, we will update you immediately" a few months ago wouldn't have killed anyone...or their contract.

Since CDC guidelines (with CLIA in agreement) WILL require that ships sail at reduced capacity for the foreseeable future, if Royal WERE to force the charter to take place, UMC should be free to renegotiate the charter price. But, I'm hoping for a complete cancellation and rebooking in January 2022.

At least Royal hasn't sold off the Indy yet. I've seen a few ships sent off to the breakers' yards that I've sailed on, or been moored next to, before.

So we all know the website was down several days.
I thought, 'here we go! Finally! An update!'

    Pffh!

    Nothing.

This time I am fully surprised to see zero communication/updates and the 2021 dates unchanged.
At this late stage of the year, I thought the Skip/team would come out and confirm the next cruise
postponed and we set sail for 2022, same destination and all and even maybe a headliner act to get us
    all feeling great.

Now that a vaccine is being rolled out across the UK next week, I wonder if that will have an affect on
decision making and the 2021 cruise will set sail - not for 2022, earlier/mid year....or nothing at all.

2012 was my first cruise, and all 4 of us cabin mates want to re-unite for 2022 (our own 10yr anniversary)
    We wanna start planning already!

    C'mon Skip!

    31 days to sail date.....oh wait...yeah, right!

Maybe we're gonna hear, see and know nothing until the sail date.

    Silly.

    So silly.

Maybe on Xmas day we'll get news.
    HA!

    Why keep us all guessing?
Why give us all the silent treatment?
    We are what makes you.

Without us, there is no cruise.

We deserve to know at least a bit of news. A bit of an idea.

My guess, is 2022, same dates, same destination.

This is just par for the course. Communication has always been my only complaint with 70K. Everyone is blinded by such a great event that they don't take the time to realize how disrespectful it is to us.

Those that think he was waiting around for RCL to cancel the cruise need to realize that RCL did that a while back. All charter cruises in the first quarter 2021 had already been cancelled before this latest announcement from them regarding regular cruises. That is why all other charter cruises have already rescheduled theirs.

This is just Andy being Andy.

In all seriousness.... I actually wonder if UMC is not tits-up. A year with no revenue of any kind, and RC canceling cruises until spring.

I hope not, of course.. but ....

They just paid someone to stand back up the website, probably as part of some behind the scene upgrade (speculation on my part, but it would not surprise me). Also they are still paying the social media team. I fear for that possibility that they might go under as well, but I would think, for right now at least, sign point towards no.

If the web site was still DOA or the social media team had gone silent, I would be more inclined to agree.

Given the current evidence, I would suspect that UMC is alive and well and practicing thier normal brand of 'don't say shit until we have EVERYTHING squared away and fuck'em if they bitch' style of communication.
