BIMINI / THE BAHAMAS

Bimini is a chain of islands located in the north of The Bahamas. For Round 11, we will sail to North Bimini and cast our anchor at Bimini Cruise Port. This is truly a Caribbean dream destination like none other featuring picturesque white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and various attractions to indulge in. Whether you want to try your hand at sport fishing, relax at a local bar or cafe, or even pamper yourself at a beach club, Bimini has it all!

THINGS TO DO IN BIMINI

DOLPHIN HOUSE MUSEUM

Established in 1993 the Dolphin House Museum, a ‘Poem in Stone’ is a three-story dolphin and ocean-inspired museum built using recycled materials by local Biminite author and historian Ashley Saunders. A popular cultural tourist attraction visited daily by international travelers also offers a novel gift shop for souvenir purchases. The Dolphin House Museum is Bimini’s most unique and artistic structure and must be seen by anyone visiting this little island in the stream. Inspired by a swim with a pod of Bimini’s wild dolphins. Mr. Saunders considers himself a dolphin inspired artist.

SWIMMING WITH SHARKS

If you’ve got a penchant for the exhilaration you can dive into the clear blue waters of Bimini and swim with the local population… of sharks that is! With over 20 dive sites around the islands of Bimini, you will have your pick of locations. This picturesque island chain is home to many varieties of sharks including the hammerhead shark as well as the bull shark.

BEACH RELAXATION

You’ll find that Bimini has the most wonderful beaches with brightly colored sand and crystal clear waters to swim in. This is truly a beach lover’s paradise. If you were looking to take the day to lay back and relax you will be spoiled for choice! Featured in Bimini are numerous beach clubs that will pamper you and serve up delicious cocktails and cuisine.

SPORT FISHING

Bimini has a rich history of sportfishing with many varieties of fish available to catch such as yellowtail snapper, grouper, mutton snapper, and more. One fish in particular, however, thrust Bimini into the international spotlight for sportfishing: giant bluefin tuna. Spend your day traversing through the waters and casting your fishing line to see if you get any bites!

LOCAL CUISINE

CONCH CEVICHE:

This ceviche-style dish serves uncooked conch covered in spicy pepper and lemon. Oftentimes it is mixed with tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, and celery. For those wary about the uncooked conch, it’s not a problem at all! The acid of the citrus causes a process called denaturation, which in essence cooks the meat.

JOHNNYCAKES:

Johnnycakes are the unofficial bread of Bahamian cuisine. A pan-cooked concoction, this local staple is made of milk, butter, flour, and sugar, and are often eaten with stews and curries.

KALIK BEER:

Kalik Beer is known as the beer of The Bahamas. The name ‘Kalik’ is likened to the sound the cowbells make when shaken; cowbells are an integral part of the Junkanoo Festival, as are other traditional Bahamian instruments. The beer itself is considered a national favorite, and you can enjoy various different versions including regular, light (Kalik Light), and extra strong (Kalik Gold and Kalik Platinum).
